Lately I've been having weird experiences with the player.

It seems that it's automatically resetting itself to factory settings every time I turn it on. It has happened at least 3x now. I turn it on and it shows the Sony logo and then a black screen then the player automatically turns off by itself and then when I turn it back on it's resetted the entire player to factory settings. Most strangest thing I've ever seen.

It plays perfectly fine and works as it should but I don't know why it's doing that. Any ideas besides a hardware glitch or something?

Is this worth an upgrade from the X800?

I own a VIZIO TV that has Dolby Vision on it but from what I can tell from the reviews, it adds stuff but not much in terms of that it would be worth a $200 upgrade. Keep in mind I did spend $300 when the Sony first 4K player came out so that is why I am hesitant. Also it confuses me that my player is more expensive then the one with the amazing Dolby Vision. Keep in mind, I do know that Vision is better because I have seen it in Dolby Cinema, just don't know if it'll be worth it on my set up for an extra $200.

If your set has lower nits or iffy tone-mapping then Dolby Vision will be more an upgrade than average. Not sure what set you have but look it up on Rtings and see what the peak nits is and their overall opinion of color volume is.

So, it seems I need to retire my old LG player. Was thinking about getting X700. I have an LG OLED E6. What do you guys think? Should I pull the trigger, or look for something else in this price range?

My hope, is that we get a true successor to the tank-like X800.

All they need to do is increase the processing power and add DV.

But I want it implement better, with DV and 3D both easily accessible.

I really like Sony players, but not that cheapo $99 plastic shell & drive noise that you get with budget players.

In the [System Settings] menu, select OFF for the [Control for HDMI]
And select OFF for the [Quick Start Mode]

I have had few problems with the x700. Sometimes a movie will freeze, but I don't know to attribute that to the movie (disc) or the player, since it does not happen on all discs.

The price is right at $150. If you can only afford one player for the next few years, meaning you won't be able to upgrade/change for some time, then perhaps you should wait to see what new products are available. However, if buying an x700 now does not prevent you from upgrading within the next year then I wouldn't wait. That is assuming something better and at a comparable price will be released. And that is also assuming you can wait at all.

Having DV capability is nice, but you do have to turn it on and off with the x700. Other than that I have been pleased with this player. I am hoping an update will make it automatically detect DV or HDR.

Thanks for this! Is it loud though? My old LG likes to make such a beastly noise as if it wants to fly out of the window.

Have you played triple layered 4k discs on this player?

I have it for half a year now. Played over 70 movies with only 1 problem
It did not play the US version of Wall-E. This was after a firmware update. Within a few days was another firmware update and it worked.
I have played normal blu-rays, 3D blu-rays, 4k titles on a BD66 and BD100
Since I don’t have Dolby Vision I have it turned off.

You were the only one to chime in on this issue that I had so I really thank you.

I’ll try those out but I also learned that not connecting the player online does the trick. Not sure if its a glitch or not but everytime I connected to the network that issue happened. Decided not to anymore and it’s working perfectly.

I have it connected to my network but HDMI control off on mine as I've had issues with that on previous players. I didn't change the quick start mode tho not sure if it's on or off but mine has worked perfectly so far.
