LOL!
I don't do internet flame wars.

Sadly, due to the non-personal nature of text on a screen, I feel that it has become the norm to dehumanize people online, and I feel it's beginning to spill over into real life, and quickly. (I live in the USA)

This genuinely scares me, so I try to not engage in that type of behavior. Not out of some feeling of superiority or anything of that nature, but to not be a part of that type of discourse.

Differing opinions are great IMO. I feel there's no need to try to shout down the other guy if he disagrees with you. You can both rationally share your thoughts, and leave it at that. At the end of the day, it really doesn't matter if we all have group think (I'm happy we don't), but I do feel that how we treat others does matter.

*steps off soapbox*

I watched this last night and man the picture quality on this...you'd think this movie was made in the last 5 years. Made the viewing experience even better with an already amazing movie.

Non-playing side, I know, but I think I'd be looking for a replacement disc. Could be excess heat or a chemical causing the printing to bubble - and if that has affected the playing side (maybe invisibly for now)...

Yes and yes.

There is a Kubrick storyboard floating around where he says to protect for 1.33:1 but the intended frame is 1.85.

"The frame is EXACTLY 1-1.85, obviously you compose for that but protect the full 1-1.33 area"

Already sent back to Amazon and replacement on its way. My understanding from the CD era is that manufacturing defects on the non-playing side can seep through to the play side.

Good. And exactly my thinking. BDs may be more robust but I still wouldn't be inclined to chance it.

I had the same thing on a BD the other day, I was wiping it down and noticed it, I managed to smooth the lumps out. I was worried the label would disintegrate but it was okay. Sometimes they just flake away in your hands.

Same! Watched this in 4K for the first time, last night. Amazing. Have the blades of the helicopter always been visible during that first exterior shot of the overlook? Or is that just HDR doing its thing?

Is that what it is?!?!... I’m watching it right now and noticed something flickering in that scene. I thought it was some issue with my disc lol

Since it's presented in 1.78:1 it would explain the chopper blades in view. I'm assuming at 1.85:1 it would "mask" them off the frame.

On the VHS and the first DVD framed at 1.33:1 (open matte), not only could you see the helicopter blades, you could also see the helicopter shadow on the ground!!
