Yeah really surprised the DS9 cast has been pretty much sidelined besides Lower Decks.

I'm hoping after the love that Picard S3 got we'll get another limited series and DS9 gets some of the spotlight.

I know I said in the Picard movie thread that Stewart should stop but damn how cool would it be to have Picard, Sisko, and Janeway team up.

Would be nice if they just acknowledge what is going on with The Sisko.

Interesting that there's been all these rumors about Paramount being in trouble and possibly being bought by WB. Then Tom Cruise goes over to WB...

But in the span of 24 hours we've got a Star Trek movie and Top Gun 3 announcement.

I'm interested in seeing Star Trek back on the big screen in any capacity but I do admit I'd prefer to have seen the crew back for a 4th Kelvin-verse film.

It’s notable that Paramount — then spending hundreds of millions on two Mission: Impossible installments — was never looped in on the discussion. Cruise doesn’t have any kind of formal deal at the studio but he’s had a long relationship there through multiple executive regimes. Five of his last seven movies were for Paramount, but some of the bloom seems to be off that rose.

Sources say Cruise was not happy with the way Paramount dealt with him on a number of issues. He had lawyered up in 2021, when the studio announced that Top Gun: Maverick would have a mere 45-day theatrical run (which of course did not happen). The studio also pressed Cruise to approve the making of a television show based on Mission: Impossible or Days of Thunder for its streamer.
Quote:
“Tensions have gotten higher between Tom and Paramount as relates to budget and collaboration,” says a source with knowledge of the situation. “He doesn’t send script pages, doesn’t let them see dailies. He used to be very responsible on budgets. That changed on Dead Reckoning.”

That would easily be a blockbuster. I feel like paramount is so disconnceted from the fans in terms of giving the old timeline more stories. Sure I like the Kelvin movies/shows but they don’t hold a candle to the og franchise. Nostalgia alone would get butts in the theater seats.

The chance of making money heals wounds. Yet there was something missing from the announcement. There was no confirmation that Cruise is returning.

I doubt they could coax Avery Brooks out of retirement. Kate Mulgrew would do it though. She’s voicing Janeway on Prodigy.

I think any chance of this happening would be on Lower Decks.

Aren't they actively in production on MI? Are they going to cancel that too?

And Top Gun without Tom Cruise doesn't work. I don't think Miles Teller and Glen Powell can carry that kind of movie on their own.

Can't help but feel like Paramount is biting the hand that feeds them.

Remember when they announced another Star Trek sequel and did not tell the cast. The article says the writer is working on a draft of a script. Why would they announce that a script is being drafted? Both of these seem like a way to deflect the bad press they have had recently.

Buried in that future of Star Trek article was this.

Quote:
Even further along is another prospective “Star Trek” film written by Seth Grahame-Smith (“Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter”) and to be directed by Toby Haynes (“Andor,” “Black Mirror: USS Callister”) that studio insiders say is on track to start preproduction by the end of the year. That project will serve as an origin story of sorts for the main timeline of the entire franchise. In both cases, the studio is said to be focused on rightsizing the budgets to fit within the clear box office ceiling for “Star Trek” feature films.

Ok so this will mainly be focused on the main timeline then?

On a side note, digging into the whole timeline thing made me realize Enterprise is the sole series that exists in both the original and Kelvin timelines.
