As film fans, I think we all have canonical classics we're unable to get on board with, for whatever reason. TFC has always been one of those for me. T7U has a relatively messy plot, but that gritty 70s NYC atmosphere has probably never been bettered and its car chase is the best ever filmed (only Friedkin's To Live and Die in L.A. or Ronin approach it.)

I have to say that The Seven-Ups MIGHT just be TT's most impressive release. New 4k scan and practically overflowing with supplements, I highly encourage any stragglers to pick this up while you can.
The car chase is incredible, although I'd give the nod to Bullitt myself. Of course the common link between the car chases in both these films, and The French Connection, is the skill of legendary stunt driver/coordinator and actor Bill Hickman. Truly an amazing talent.

Unfortunately the UK release is 1.85:1 - TT's is the only BD release of Sexy Release that offers it in 2.35:1.

Oh, sure, I understand that. Still, it's something that I have to remind myself when I notice similar things. While not car chases, I will often see two people in a car chatting away, and the driver will look at the other person for what seems an inordinate amount of time, and I want to shout, "Watch where you're going!".

There are all sorts of improbable things that happen in movies that try their damnedest to pull me out of the narrative. Another thing regarding cars is that characters never seem to have to circle a block several times to find an open parking space. They always seem to magically pull up to whatever building they're going to and park right out front.

That’s good to know. I almost bought that release. Will pass. Hope someone releases it in the correct aspect ratio.

Picked up Short Night of Glass Dolls and The Doll of Satan on sale. Any other Giallo type flicks that might not see a re-release that I should pick up?

As I said a few days ago when I responded to someone else asking about TT gialli, I'm not well-versed in the genre, but the only other title I know of that would probably qualify is Gran Bollito (Black Journal). As for non-giallo titles that are of that style, I wouldn't venture to guess.

Thanks for the tip---I am region free, kinda--something is up with my player, though. I can't get it to flip anymore. I may just buy a new one.

So true. Even when I might momentarily laugh at stuff like that, rarely will it pull me out of the narrative if the film is good enough. But if the movie is bad, watch out, then I am merciless in heckling these things to within an inch of their life. Also, if it’s a movie I’ve seen dozens of times and am rewatching it mostly for comfort food pleasure, as I do now with BULLITT, FRENCH CONNECTION and SEVEN UPS, I’m more inclined to notice and have fun with the oddities therein. In such cases their stature is already secure with me so I have no hesitation in affectionately goofing on certain parts.

But the bottom line of all this is trying as hard as I can not to notice the wires and believe that the world within a great film is real. When that gets violated, which it inevitably will with many films, I still hang in there, but wryly smile too.

I went for Mamie Stover and Wuthering Heights, being annoyed with myself for missing Peyton Place yesterday. This May madness is going to play havoc with my credit cards.

SCREEN ARCHIVES ACQUIRES TWILIGHT TIME BACK CATALOG

May 14, 2020 -- Screen Archives Entertainment has reached an agreement with Twilight Time Movies to purchase the company’s extensive Twilight Time Movies inventory or back catalog, along with reprint rights of limited titles, and its website effective July 1, 2020. The agreement ensures that the Twilight Time label will continue indefinitely, according to the principals.

Screen Archives has served as the primary distribution partner to Twilight Time since its beginning, working with the late Nick Redman and co-founder Brian Jamieson.

Jamieson, a veteran studio executive and filmmaker will continue to provide marketing expertise and support to Screen Archives during the transition.

Screen Archives president Craig Spaulding said, “Having worked with Brian and Nick over the years, we took this step because we have always enjoyed a good relationship with Brian (and Nick). We wanted to keep our relationship going and continue to capitalize on Brian’s years of expertise in the industry.

Screen Archives began in 1976 and has grown into a worldwide distributor of soundtracks, DVDs, and Blu-rays. No further details will be made available until after July 1, 2020.

This announcement from Screen Archives doesn't surprise me - I can imagine that Twilight Time product comprised a large portion of their business, so they definitely wouldn't want to see that go. Hopefully we will get some new titles as well.

That one bothers me less than not using your brake when you should. You almost got in a wreck or another car, or motorcycle is taunting you can you gonna continue are 90 until you flip your car. Why did the entire end of death proof happen? Pull over
[Show spoiler]let your friend safely get off the hood and use your gun.

I'm not sure. The announcement is vague on particulars. If part of the licensing agreement for a specific title included a 3000 unit restriction (and I believe that's the case for all of their titles, with only a few exceptions), a new deal would have to be made.

We already knew that SAE was getting all of the unsold stock at the end of the current sale, so this is likely just SAE buying up the label itself for various legal reasons. I don't anticipate any new titles coming from this deal, and frankly, I imagine we won't be getting reprints of anything other than a select few, highly in-demand titles.

Basically, this just means the label will limp along in a zombified state for longer than we'd anticipated.
