Actually, I would have been very surprised to read that Criterion would have passed on Sleepless in Seattle if the situation had presented itself. It wouldn't have been the first modern romantic comedy that they have released.

Unlike some people, I'm not complaining about having the Twilight Time release as I'm just happy to have a very good Blu-ray release of the film, but the film would have fit in just fine with Criterion.

I think Criterion are focused on more sophisticated fare for their modern releases.

Edit: Although they did release Tiny Furniture, so...maybe not?

If Criterion were to ever release something from the immortal Hanks/Ryan collaboration, it must be Joe vs. The Volcano!

They are more often than not. I was just making a point that modern releases aren't completely out of the question for them since they have several in the collection, including Tiny Furniture. Sleepless in Seattle fits in more than some people may think.

Maybe your friend lives in USA, and they have a priority towards US customers?

Most of Criterion's contemporary releases relate to their arrangement with IFC films dating back to '09: http://www.indiewire.com/article/cri..._on_tap_so_far

Great news on the two Harryhausens! Aren't they also planning on First Men in the Moon at some point?

I just saw this on the SAE website when I went to check the status on my Body Double order. I'm absolutely stoked by this, I have the Sony release of 7th Voyage of Sinbad and was wondering when they'd get around to the rest of the Sinbads (if at all!). I'm a bit meh on Royal Flash. I found the DVD in a discount bin about 6 months ago and checked it out. Definitely a fun, quirky film that I'm sure a lot of people will enjoy if they check it out, it just doesn't have much replay value for me. It's definitely a good one for Malcolm McDowell fans.

Funny how defensive people get for TT when you say they have control of their own business choices as if that's an attack.
And it's "funny" how "people" strategically avoid a thorough presentation of a host of other inter-related concerns for the sake of myopically repeating a tired, straw man non-point. I have nothing further on this matter if this is your attitude, deepred.
