I'm gonna go to bed and call it a early night. I have such a headache from being out in the sun all day today at work. Good thing I have the next 2 days off.

I don't know enough about the world of business to know what those degrees would do for you. REALLY hoping I'm as smart as I think I am so I can get in and out of school quickly with a BA in psychology and then an LMSW so I can become a therapist.

the credential itself would be nice, but wouldn't do much at this point in my career. A lot of my peers and coworkers have an MS in Economics, or some other related field. I'm about midway between where I started and where I will need a top-tier MBA to continue to advance.

But the knowledge would definitely help me be more effective. It's all or mostly stuff I'm currently studying on my own anyways, but I like the structure and rigor of a formal degree program.

I would then weigh the financial benefit of doing it, unless the cost is lower than I think it would be. I want to start studying on my own a bit, although I'm far less effective at it when I'm not in classes.

the cost wouldn't be prohibitive, and I wouldn't be looking to get one at anywhere expensive, since I'm not banking on the prestige of the degree itself. I'd probably just pick up an online program from a tier 2 state school or one of the private schools that focuses on online education like American University or SNHU. The University of Maryland has a more prestigious program, and offers a discount and guaranteed scholarship because of my employer, so that's an option too.

Like I said, there's probably not MUCH financial benefit, if any at all. But that's not the point.

Sounds good, I still don't know much about getting a master's, imagine I will become much more informed about it when/if I get my BA in psych and have to decide whether I want an LPCC, LMFT or LMSW.

grad school is an entirely different game than undergrad. All of your classes are basically relevant to your interests, and each class is much more focused.

Basically take a single chapter from one of your undergrad textbooks, and that's now a 3 hour course, and you're reading all of the source material that went into that chapter.

The biggest difference between undergrad and grad school is that in undergrad you're mostly studying textbooks written by a single author or group of authors, that's about a topic. In grad school you're mostly reading peer-reviewed journal articles, primary research.

Ah okay, that's still kind of confusing, makes me wish I had more time to talk to the young lady I'm using as a mentor for all of this at work.

here's another way to think about it.

In undergrad you're learning things, facts, information, methods, history, etc.

When you get to grad school you'll start looking at the scientific basis those things have, what research was done and how, what different interpretations of the same research are, and more.

It's basically just a deeper dive into the subject, with more focus on studying research, and often you also start to get to conduct some research of your own.

I didn't really like undergrad that much, but I really enjoyed grad school.

I guess grad school is something like this. Say you have 1 class you took for your bachelors that you really liked, so you decided to take a 32 semester-hour version of that same class spreadout over a 2 year period.

O_O Yikes, sounds like a lot of work, definitely think I need to have extensive conversations with my mentor at work, the psych department advisor, the social work advisor and the LMFT advisor at some point.
