Yay! "Blu Ray release: One of the first orders they plan to execute is the blu ray release of Ultra Q, Ultraman, UltraSeven, Return of Ultraman, Ultraman Ace and Ultraman Taro along with Jamborg Ace. This will be the first time any of these shows have seen proper blu ray release stateside, in addition to a proper release of Return, Ace, Taro and Jamborg in the US. The plan is to add an English dialog track with the releases for those who have a difficult time with subtitles." Disappointing it's from Chaiyo (they are thieves and pure evil) and I'm sure the transfers will be godawful, just like they were on dvd but we are finally getting Seven, return, ace and Taro released here, so i'm happy. |

Chaiyo is a Thai company that has fraudulently claimed international ownership of various Ultraman shows and properties. SciFi Japan has some extensive articles on the situation.
http://www.scifijapan.com/articles/2...a-productions/ Unfortunately, all of the early Ultraman shows on DVD in the U.S. from BCI Eclipse, Mill Creek, and Shout! Factory come from Chaiyo in one way or another. |

This would be exciting news, but Chaiyo have been saying this for years and there are no Blu-rays yet. I'm not going to jump for joy until it actually happens.
As for the whole Chaiyo vs. Tsuburaya thing, I don't like what Chaiyo are doing either, but I'm also desperate enough to own the shows that if Blu-ray sets were released in at least decent quality, I'd go for it. Because who knows how long we'd have to wait for Tsuburaya to get the full rights back otherwise, it could take years or even decades, if it even happened at all. ![]() |

^ Agreed. Chaiyo has a history of empty claims, so I'm not holding my breath, but if these shows ever materialize on Blu-ray, I'll buy them. I know Chaiyo doesn't have access to original materials, so hopefully they just rip the HD versions from the Japanese discs, as I imagine that's the best quality they could manage.

I'm in for the original Ultraman series but I'm still disappointed that Chaiyo even has a license for North American distribution. I wish Tsuburayo would yank Chaiyo's rights. But, ouch. From what I just learned, the Blu-rays of all six series (or seasons) will be packaged in a single Blu-ray boxed set:
http://ultra.wikia.com/wiki/Ultra_Se...ensing_Dispute According to the entry: In commemoration for Ultraman's 50th year anniversary in 2014, Thailand based company Chaiyo Productions plans to release a 6-season boxset, more than 325 episodes, of the Ultraman series in the United States. The official site is now taking reservations. The boxset includes Ultraman (1966–1967), Ultra Seven (1967–1968), The Return of Ultraman / Ultraman Jack (1971–1972), Ultraman Ace (1972–1973), Ultraman Taro (1973–1974), and Ultraman Leo (1974–1975). I don't know if this is accurate or where they got their information from, but if this is true, the price is going to be high. |

My heart skipped a beat when I read the thread title. However, after reading the details in this thread it is upsetting. I do have the old BCI dvd. I would rather just order the Japanese blu-ray box sets. So, basically, either this will either never happen or maybe this will force Tsuburaya Productions to make the deals to release these here.
