My heart skipped a beat when I read the thread title. However, after reading the details in this thread it is upsetting. I do have the old BCI dvd. I would rather just order the Japanese blu-ray box sets. So, basically, either this will either never happen or maybe this will force Tsuburaya Productions to make the deals to release these here.

Tsuburaya can't release these here, as Chiyao won the legal battle to have the rights to solicite them in the U.S, despite the dubious way they claim to have the rights

The legal battle has been mired in a complicated war over what the original agreement was about. To hear Chaiyo tell it, that they have permanent rights to Ultraman outside Japan.

The only way to force Chaiyo's hands in this matter is to stop buying their releases on any products.

From the way I understand it, Chaiyo only has the rights to the Ultraman series outside Asia, meaning that they cannot release Ultraman for distribution within Asia. Additionally, with Bandai now the majority owner of Tsuburaya Productions, it's going to be interesting to see what new direction a new possible lawsuit will head for.

I had read an interesting post on Facebook over this new development:

great, I wish it was a company that would really do a sweet transfer. but hey, at least I have all 3 of my favorites on dvd.

Ultra man
Johnny Socko and his flying robot
Space Giants

Hey, maybe Disney will buy the rights and remake ALL of them

Chaiyo only has the rights to the shows Ultraman through Ultraman Taro.

Tsuburaya gave crunchyroll the rights to sub and stream Ultraman Leo, Ultraman 80, Ultraman Max, and Ultraman Mebius within the past year.

Why no one has given Ultraman Nexus a proper Blu/DVD release in the states is beyond me.

I think the movie Ultraman: The Next would be a no-brainer. A stand-alone movie with a serious tone and good FX that works as a reboot of the Ultra mythos seems like it would have the most appeal to a wide U.S. audience who remember Ultraman from their youth, but don't want to get bogged down in a whole series.

I would take any Ultraman news from Chaiyo with a LARGE grain of salt. The company and it's founder, Sompote Saengduenchai, have a long history of announcing new Ultraman products, films, theme parks, TV series, etc and literally none of them ever saw the light of day.

Back in 2001, Chaiyo announced they were making a live action TV show and a movie with their own character, Ultraman Millennium. They also said they were in post-production on an Ultraman animated series that would premiere in February 2002. No series, movie or cartoon was released.

2003: Their Ultraman Millennium movie was reported in production for release in 2004. Saengduenchai also said the "Ultraman Town and Museum" theme park would open in Thailand in 2004. There was never any movie, and the theme park never opened.

2004: Sompote told the Thai news paper The Nation that he was in talks with “top Hollywood filmmakers” to make a big budget Ultraman movie. No movie was ever made.

2005: Chaiyo partnered with Apex Toys and Guangzhou Ruishi Culture Developing in China for a new TV series, PROJECT ULTRAMAN. In 2006, Chaiyo announced that the show was completed and would be broadcast in China starting December 2006 and Thailand in January 2007. The show never aired.

2013: Chaiyo held a press conference in Los Angeles to announced complete DVD sets of Ultraman series, books, art collections, toys and a Hollywood Ultraman movie starring Will Smith. Later that same year, Saengduenchai also appeared at an LA convention to promote his Ultraman projects. Two years later, not a single one of them has been released.

2015: Chaiyo holds another press conference in LA to announce they will be making a Hollywood Ultraman movie, Blu-rays, books and collectibles.

The funny thing is Chaiyo keeps making these announcements and people keep repeating them as if they're really going to happen... and this has been going on for 15 years. The general thinking among those that have followed the Tsuburaya/Chaiyo dispute is that Chaiyo periodically makes big claims to drum up attention and money from potential investors and licensees. Maybe one day Chaiyo will do more than issue announcements and deliver a product, but their track record certainly doesn't support that happening.

Moj, that's what I too. But, I keep seeing Chaiyo making announcements for new Ultraman shows and films. I assumed that Chaiyo had limited rights to a few Ultraman shows and films. But the ruling from Taiwan and Japanese courts seems to have ruled in favor of Chaiyo and that the original contract was vague in regards to what rights Chaiyo had.

From what little I've read on it, that Tsuburaya had given Chaiyo rights to the Ultraman series beyond Asia in exchange for a loan. I would assume that Chaiyo would not have rights to new Ultraman shows. But, the reading from the courts seems to imply that Chaiyo has exclusive rights outside Asia to distribution of the Ultraman series.

With Bandai now a major owner in Tsubuyara Productions, I'm curious how they'll deal with Chaiyo over this.
