Yea in the commentary from the 2003 Special Edition DVD Carpenter says it looks soft sometimes because of the panaovision cameras. But that is another film that I thought looked great on Blu regardless. You can tell a big difference from the DVD and the Bluray.

Exactly. I wish other studios would licence that US transfer and use it for their blu-rays. Mostly in Europe. Because the US blu-ray is only code A and no other blu-ray uses that excellent transfer.

It's not seen very clearly in the movie. Seeing that scan of the picture of the actress made me try and look it up, but it's weird how it seems to be nowhere on the net apart from VHS cover scans.

I think it was one of the panel artworks in that anchor bay DVD set from several years ago too. The actress was apparently Jeanie Brown/Jefferies and she was on the makeup crew. I'm surprised there isn't more publicity of that still, it's easily the most gruesome make-up job in the movie (unless you count the head explosion effect!).
I believe she was Savini's girlfriend at that time. I could have sworn I heard him say that in one of the many commentaries he recorded for Dawn.

Anyone know what version/edition this is? Is the second disc just a DVD?

Searching the SKU on google I found:
http://www.freshmanexperience.com/be...romo_161458421

Which lists:
• Manufacturer Part Number: 15648549
• SKU: 19143631
• UPC: 5027035005799

Searching that UPC I found this Arrow set.
http://www.thenile.com.au/movies/Daw...5027035005799/

This Yesasia listing has that UPC (from the Arrow) and the Best Buy description and release date.

i did a search on this in this thread and could not find this...

i am clearing out my non-anamorphic dvds from my collection, i have the dawn of the dead ultimate set, and the AB blu-ray as well... but i also have the original AB dawn of the dead dvd from the 90s. my question is, it states on the letterbox dvd that the movie is presented in a 1.66:1 AR, and i had never noticed that originally. so i stuck it in again, and noticed the scenes are more open.

so does anyone know why the first dvd was issued in that AR? was that a mistake, or was that a preferred AR that was later abandoned by romero? just curious.... i may have to watch it again for nostalgia before i sell it for kicks, cause i hadn't watched that one in years, and had never noticed that.

What's the best transfer of the Argento cut? I'm Italian, and that's the only cut I know...

I think back in those days films were shot to be displayed in both ratios. US often used the 1.85 while Europe went with 1.66. AB wanted to seem more cool and worldly so they used the Euro ratio the first time. This is just an educated guess, although I know the ratio thing is true from Kubrick docs and stuff and is probably the case here.

Romero's theatrical cut is vastly superior.

Isn't it getting a 3D conversion?

I could've sworn it was posted on this website at some point.

There may be hope for a new transfer after all.

Thats the word, but nothing new for news on it. I picked up a german version, a severely cut version mind you and i didnt notice when i ordered but when i received it i saw it also included an anaglyph 3d version. I watched it for shits n giggles but it was mostly giggles. Obviously didnt look very good, but was fun none the less. Would absolutely love a proper 3d conversion, even a new transfer would suffice at this point. The japanese versions arent too bad, like the european cut and theatrical look great. Extended cut looks pretty shabby though.

Fingers crossed that it actually happens.

Both Night & Day have got good BD transfers courtesy of Optimum and Scream Factory respectively so it's about time the imo best film in the trilogy got some TLC.

Apparently, the guy who owns it asks exuberant amount of money for license. Maybe Scream Factory can get a hold of it and then ruin it with bad compression artefacts?

I hope so.

I've heard the rightsholder has/is converting it to 3D. That would be even better.

Not bluray related but Dawn is my all time favorite movie and today I finally got an original poster of it. Been wanting one forever and one finally popped up on ebay at a price I could actually afford. Woohoo!

Sorry im still excited.

I would be too, Congrats.
I was over the moon when I got my blu-ray cover signed by David Emge, Ken Foree, Gaylen Ross, Scott Reiniger, Tom Savini and George Romero so I know how you feel. I just hope the 3D conversion is good.
