Here is my question......the HDMI in question has a label on either end. One for "display" and other for "source". Does it matter which end is which when just dealing with audio only? If it is an issue then I will have to rip it out of the ceiling as the end that states "source" would be going into the Marantz receiver. So, it's backwards. I'm crossing my fingers that this isn't an issue as it is just audio I would be dealing with. Thoughts?
Those active cables work one way only. You would need to flip it. Next time run 1 1/2 or 2 inch conduit for your cables and you wouldn't have to rip anything up.

This might be a blessing in disguise.

yeah I see your point. This is all trial and error for me but I'm getting there. Thanks for the feedback. I was hoping that it would still be able to send audio only via Samsung to receiver but oh well.

Does anyone know if this player (or netflix itself) support HDR in Canada? It Looooks like HDR when I watch Marco Polo but there's no logo or anything other than UHD 4k...

WOW...You might be right. I use both Samsung and Sony BD players, and ever since the firmware upgrade even my wife notice that anything we play on the Samsung is looking better. Previously there was absolutely no difference to be detected at all

A lot of great deals from Amazon this evening for UHD BD titles (if you are a Prime member)to play on the K8500. Prices between $15 and $23 for around two Dozen UHD BD titles. I ordered five more UHD BD titles. I'm looking forward to playing them on my K8500.

Which titles? They all look to be about the same prices as they were last time I checked and I'm a Prime member.

Thankyou. It look like the firmware is universal for this unit which is good. Looking forward to setting it up once the E65 LG Oled arrives.

It plays 24p 25p 50i 60i, everything. Even 720x480 ar 60p ! Very nice.

The price was in small print. Under the regular price which was in large print.

I ordered Concussion for $15, Lucy and Oblivion for for $23 each. Lone Survivor for $23, and RIsen for $20.

These were the UHD BD deals they had. WHich should be great to play on the K8500.

Nothing like a 2016 Oled TV connected to this player. I have a 55C6 connected to it and being able to play HDR content is just the beginning of the entire experience. Any bluray worth a dime looks fabulous on this combo!

Are most noticing improvements to 1080p BDs, or UHD BDs?

I'm dropping this on this thread too because I think the ID4 thread is lower traffic...

OK, I just watched ID4 UHD on the BD-K8500 over the weekend and I can't understand why I'm experiencing these results. The picture quality on the UHD was so grainy that I had to do a direct comparison to the blu-ray and the BD clearly looked better. Anyone know why this would be the case?

The only way I could get the PQ on the UHD to be improved (and quite good) was to turn on the "TruMotion" feature on for my LG TV. Essentially upping the refresh rate, but now creating the "soap opera effect". This has been the case with other UHD films (Hancock and Pineapple Express), where increased refresh rate = better, acceptable PQ.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Is there something else I need to do to make these older UHD titles look better in 4K than their blu-ray counterparts? Is this an HDR thing, which I don't have?

FYI, watching on LG 79UB9800 with Samsung UBD-K8500.

Thanks in advance.

ID4 is a grainy film and the UHD version just brought it into more clarity. On my Samsung TV I definitely could see more detail and the color was better.

I don't know what settings you're using, but something sounds off. I've never had to turn on frame interpolation to make a 24 fps movie look better.
