I'm better off keeping my 1080P Sony BR player and using it for BR's and the K8500 for UHD BR's. I will forsure do this because from what I just read, you have to manually change the resolution on the K8500 if you want the TV to upscale. Even though it's more clutter and wires, I figure it would be less of a headache if I just keep my Sony BR player to use for regular BR's. How do you guys find the K8500 in upscaling BR's? Is it as good as the Philips player? EDIT: Just set it up and I'm liking it a lot more than I was expecting. It's actually quite nice and sure it's no Panasonic or Oppo for build quality, but I don't need it to be. It's a UHD player, not a piece of fine art from the musuem. ![]() ![]() Last edited by BigSexyKevinNash; 12-30-2016 at 02:28 AM. |

When did it come out, March 2016? Just 7 weeks ago my best buy had it on "sale" for $400cdn, down from $600. Then during Black Friday and this week it's been on for $299cdn. It goes back up to $399 tonight. |

Auto setting on resolution will choose 2160p, so yeah you need to change to 1080p if you want your TV to upscale. That's what I do but I mostly watch blurays so it stays on 1080p

I settled with auto for everything. One time player blacked out as I was toggling between resolution settings so ever since I decided to leave it on auto for good.

I've decided to just keep my Sony BR player connected and use that for all BR's and use the K8500 for 4K discs only. I will have my TV upscale as it does it a little bit better than the K8500. Saves the wear and tear. I want this Samsung to last me at least a few years and I know they aren't as durable as Sony players ![]() |

I just don't like the look of blurays upscaled to 2160, if I was playing both formats all the time I would consider using my Sony 6500 as well but changing the resolution setting is no big deal really

You realize they're being upscaled either way right? Either the player is doing it or the TV is doing it, but they're being upscaled. I think my TV does a much better job than the 8500 does.

It's been a solid player for me tho, I just have not liked much of the UHD content so far so I have not bought many movies. If I had HDR on my TV I probably would of bought a few more tho. |

Im having problems playing certain titles on netflix with this player. Mainly, the Marvel shows. The audios playing but not the video. Isit possibly because my TV is 1080p? Can anyone help a brutha out?

Need some advisement on pulling the trigger on this player, which is currently at a sub $200 price-point on Amazon.
As per BigSexyKevinNash's comment a few days ago, I'm curious if anyone knows what the price will be in a week, and if this player is a better alternative than the [currently higher priced] Philips BDP7501. Thanks! |

We decided to watch T2 tonight and when I put the movie in the player it locked up early on. While that's a bit of an issue, it's not why I'm posting.
The screen on the TV had the left half gray and the other half black. I hadn't noticed it after I put in T2. When I ejected it, then you could see it more clearly. It shown through the main screen menu of the player. I was considering checking the TV to see if it was an issue, but I chose to reboot the player. After doing so, it had returned to normal. It made me wonder if this is a connection or firmware issue. If it continues to happen, we may need to reconsider this player. On edit: I have a non-HDR Vizio M65-C1 4k TV. There were issues using the HDMI 5 port which is 4k@60Hz. Now, I'm using the HDMI 1 (arc) port and have had no problems using it to get a 2160p picture. |
