So at the end of the day, your display is what matters most. The players won't make much of a difference in terms of picture quality. Last edited by HeatEquation; 04-05-2017 at 04:34 PM. |

I know many want to flog lesser TVs for a multitude of reasons, but honesty about our experiences is the best guide for navigating these murky UHD waters. The Sony, on my television, handles lower HDR brightness much better. It's just the truth. HDR looks great on my piddly Christmas gift TV, it's just the truth. The truth shall set you free. |

![]() I know how good Blu-rays looked upscaled to 2160, and they look pretty damn good. Like you said, at the end of the day, it only matters on how good the picture looks to your own eyes. Thanks for the info. |

I think most of this is just you trying to justify your purchase. Which is kind of understandable. |

Why don't you just trust someone who actually experienced these device combinations and is not an idiot? The Sony is much better in a ton of ways for my television, it just is. Why do you feel the need to be rude and arrogant about such things in the first place? Humans... |

The color fix I discovered above made a massive difference on my setup, which is the same set as you I believe. What I changed on the Sony player was setting color to YcBcCr 4:4:4 and Deep Color to auto. See if you can do that on the Samsung, it might make a difference for you as well.
The Samsung was still much darker than the Sony on default settings for me, but this fixed the Sony's color issue and might fix issues on the Samsung with our TV too. Who knows? |

I watched Jason Bourne last night as my first movie in this new format. Not exactly reference material here, but it did look a tad better than the Blu-ray. So far, no problems with the player. I need to watch a more colorful movie to see how much of a difference it really makes between 4K, and regular Blu-ray. I only have 16 4K UHD movies to choose from, so I am limited as to what I can watch at the moment.
A big thanks to everyone that has helped me out as I continue my quest for the best possible viewing experience. |

In spite of some of my grievances with the Peregrine UHD that one is nonetheless an obvious upgrade over the regular Blu-ray, try giving that a spin next time you get a chance. Shallows and Pacific Rim are stellar upgrades as well.

The outdoor scenes shot around the mansion are mind-blowing. To me, Miss Peregrine UHD is one step above Pacific Rim and Lucy even

Shallows really blew me away. I would rank it as good as Revenant in regards to PQ.

Deep Color should be off in the player and on in your TV

For the K8500 ONLY
Deep Color on UHD: 12 bit 4:4:4 BD: 12 bit 4:4:4 Deep color off: UHD: 10 bit 4:4:4 BD: 8 bit 4:4:4 You can't set 4:2:2 on the Samsung K8500 and RGB is broken.. it's always Full (PC levels) regardless of the Limited or Full setting, so be careful with that setting. |
