There's copy protection even on discs so I wouldn't hold my breath for DRM free digital movies. They would never allow it anyways because the movie would just get passed around and there would be no reason for anyone to buy.

Copy protection and DRM are different things. Also the movies get passed around for free anyway, the only people hurt by DRM are actual consumers.

So far as I know, the studios' protection schemes for UHD HDR disks has yet to be broken.

I thought some of them have been broken, no? (La La Land, for one.)

Bought this and Alien Covenant yesterday at BB with my $20 rewards. Both were so well the price.

Tonight was the first time I watched the entire movie. I'm a fan of Clint Eastwood's later work and this is no exception. It's really a fantastic movie with solid characters. I love the story.

Clint Eastwood was great as was Morgan Freeman, but Gene Hackman really filled the screen with his presence. Doesn't surprise a bit that he won an Oscar. He was at his best here.

PQ was damn stunning. The scenic vistas were beautiful and detail was exceptional.

This movie is why I went UHD.

I ordered this last night on eBay. I have never seen it so I hope I am satisfied with the PQ. I'm sure I'll enjoy the movie (love the cast), but I hope it's a worthy upgrade over the blu-ray.

I picked up the UHD this week since it dropped to $25 and was very happy with it. Having never seen the movie I didn't know what to expect. Having read all the early comments about it being visually dark (lack of light/hard to see - not dark in tone/character action), the first couple of scenes proved THAT right, however to me it seemed it was supposed to be dark because there were plenty of scenes outside that were amazing and bright enough to see great detail.

I'm still wondering if the standard Blu-ray disc that comes with this new UHD release has the Portuguese subtitles like the UHD disc does. Could a kind soul please take take pity on my and take a minute to throw in their new Blu-ray and check the language options in the menu?

I put the standard Blu-ray from the 4K package in the Blu-ray drive on my Mac and opened the disc with MakeMKV. The main feature is 32.9GB in size and there are a crapload of subtitles shown as available:

English
French
German
Italian
Spanish
Dutch
Chinese
Korean
Arabic
Czech
Danish
Finnish
Greek
Hebrew
Hungarian
Norwegian
Polish
Portugese
Romanian
Russian
Sweedish
Thai
Turkish

Wow, thanks for doing that!

So it appears that, at least in some cases, they are not just shoving the same old Blu-ray into the new UHD packages. Unfortunately, it does not appear that the blu-ray.com database is equipped to catalog these unique bundled Blu-ray discs...

As an aside, I don't suppose that anybody would be interested in selling their Blu-ray disc to help offset the cost of their UHD purchase?

Unforgiven is in my top 10 and haven't seen it since it was released on BD. Finally sat down and watched today and what a great looking transfer. The HDR blended perfectly and really added to a cinematic experience.

Looking at Capsaholic, the difference between the old bluray and the remastered, included here, seem minimal.
Would those of you who have seen both in motion say it's a must have upgrade?

It's a rather large difference IMHO and I have seen it in motion: http://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?d1=104...0&a=1&go=0&l=1

Yeah the new BD and obviously UHD destroy the old disc. It's not even close. I dunno how anyone could say otherwise, unless people who haven't upgraded to 4K yet are pissed that the remastered BD isn't available on its own, and are now denegrating it to justify not having to buy the 4K combo.

There is really no difference in picture detail between those caps. Color scheme seems to be the big difference. I don't doubt when you say it's an upgrade, but pondering whether it's significant enough to warrant the cost.

Edit: Here are some things that look downright weird in the caps of the remaster:

Artifacts?

This is wearing me out. Every 4k reissue has posters trying to get others to make the 'upgrade' decision for them. There's plenty of information, commentary, reviews, screen caps, etc out there, as you acknowledge with your own informed comment, but everyone's viewing set up and mindset etc are slightly different and the pondering/ decision has to be done individually.

I only have one complaint with this disc, and I'm not sure there's really a solution, because it's more a problem inherent to watching movies on an OLED screen. The perfect blacks on OLED screens mean that, in the campfire scenes in this movie, much of the screen is entirely black. There is one angle during the second such scene, in which Morgan Freeman's character is between the camera and the fire, and fire is just tall enough to reach above Freeman while flickering. As a result, when watching this in a dark room, this flickering is quite annoying and almost headache inducing. Again, this is less a problem with the disc and more the nature of OLEDs, but I thought it would be worth mentioning that there is a small cost to having that perfect contrast.

So people going to Bluray.com forums to ask for other members opinions is wearing you out? Duly noted. This is not about upgrading to 4k though. It's about the difference between the two blurays, which I haven't found very much info on.
