Tinnitus is the worst - I can only hope mine doesn't get any worse than it already is.

The recipe for great surround sound isn't hard. Honestly, it isn't.
It has great dialogue clarity, I live in a Victorian flat. Most of the films I own are mono, or stereo.

I've had it for 5 yrs - it sucks. Went through TRT (actually met with Dr. Jastreboff) which helped me to habituate better.

All this tinnitus and hearing loss deserves it's own thread by the looks of it.

The TV speakers on the high end Sony LCDs (2013-2015 models) were no just ordinary TV speakers and have better sound than most sound bars. I use mine in conjunction with the Sony wireless subwoofer they sold specifically for these sets. It actually sounds so good I disconnected the HT system I had. Having the full motion mount I like that the speakers follow me wherever I watch in the room.

Of course would rather have a nice expensive setup with surround sound and atmos, but ignorance is bliss I guess. Just to lazy to do it right now.

Absolutely not. On the 2017 models, dynamic contrast can be set to low, as this was a place holder setting for LGs dynamic tone mapping function, anything above low, is standard dynamic contrast processing as you would find on any TV and should be avoided.
On later models they actually put a dynamic tone mapping setting in the TV menus, so dynamic contrast doesn't need to be touched at all.

If your seeing massive crush or whatever something else in your settings is wrong. Its really not hard to set up these LG Oleds to get a great HDR picture. Just stick it in the accurate modes (cinema/technicolor expert) and away you go. Use dynamic HDR at your own discretion, I personal don't like it on my C7, although I believe the feature was improved on the 2018/19 models, giving better results.

Yeah, I've had it since I was 18 or 19 (I'm 23 now), and I mostly don't notice it during the day anymore. I think I'm just used to it, now. Sometimes silence is depressing, though, because all I hear is ringing. Ah well.

Same. Even without the subwoofer I found myself reaching for the AVR remote control to change the volume only to realise it was just the TV speakers playing, it was then that I knew my surround sound setup's days were numbered. ZD9 isn't as good but even so, it's bonkers that the surround effect from its piddly little built-in speakers is still leagues better than their mid-range soundbars.

It's always in technicolor expert. I've tested it on multiple sources. Scarface for example, the establishing shot outside the Babylon. There's a sign in the car park, you set it to off that sign is not visible because of blacks.

Or Saddam's beret in The Big Lebowski. No dynamic contrast, it's just one big pile of black on his head. In fact, some scenes are duller with dynamic contrast on. Because it's properly resolving between the blacks and whites. The mortuary scene in The Big Lebowski was one prominent example for me.

Tone Mapping On, Dynamic Contrast Off. Setting it to high makes the picture very ugly and changes the colours. Desaturates the faces. Blows out the highlights. I run C8 in Technicolor mode. Just because something becomes visible, or more visible with such high contrast, doesn’t mean that it’s the correct setting. Something else must not be set up properly. Or brightness, contrast, OLED light, and colour saturation is not optimized.

I've had issues with my hearing since I was born. Couldn't walk until I had ear surgery and put tubes in my ears. I still listen to music at high volumes and wear out my speakers from time to time. It sometimes is not pleasant, but I enjoy this stuff too much to not listen.

My hearing's been borked my whole life and I don't let it stop me from enjoying the sounds of music and movies in surround and what not. Not even these awful headaches I've been suffering from the last month or two stopped me completely. I still listened. No pain, no gain.

Nope, this supposed 'Atmos' soundbar sounded more like two bees fighting inside a tin can, only with horribly fat, bloaty bass. Blech. I'm still keeping an eye out for something good, will look into the Cantons (not sure if they're available in the UK though?).

I hear you. So to speak. I've had some massive headaches the last couple of months that made listening to music or watching a movie extremely painful. It was not fun. My issues probably stem from my ongoing sinus issues, hearing issues from birth, and my years of deafening Walkman abuse. I just had to listen.

I've heard of that virtual surround effect Sony do, been kind of curious about it.

The Cantons are available in the UK, same as here in Swedenland. I think Canton has a presence all over Europe.
I've experienced hearing issues and hearing loss for the better part of my life. Spent a good chunk of it with tubes in my ear (still have one in one of my ears) and avoiding water in them. Yet, I spent my twenties and teens cranking up the old Walkman on a daily basis. Could never give that up.

I wear custom molded ear plugs when I go to concerts, now. That said, the Eagles are my favorite band of all time, and I'll be damned if I'm gonna wear plugs during their shows. I just... can't. I love it too much.

Hopefully the infrequent occurrence of these shows, combined with the fact that the band is likely not long for this world, will prevent further ear damage Then again, I'll always have Hell Freezes Over and Farewell 1 Tour to blast...

What thread is this, again?

I absolutely leave my dynamic contrast OFF on my E8. I used to have it on with my old B6, but that TV had some significant tone-mapping issues that the dynamic contrast helped with. No so with the E8.

I was 42 using some crappy headphones for some online training at work. As soon as I put them in, I heard a crackle static at too loud of volume for several moments - then bam! - have had Tinnitus ever since. Although it was probably one of those of breaking the camel's back situation that was leading into it. Dr. J had said through tests that my hearing loss looks more like it was caused by virus/flu at some point in my life versus purely acoustic damage which was interesting to me. But, I do watch loud levels and don't allow peaks in my audio to hit past 95-100 db for a two hour movie.

According to my ENT, my actual hearing is fine, it's just that I also hear ringing. I'm lucky in that regard.

Fine I'll turn it off permanently, and see how my viewing goes.

One thing I'm definitely unsure on is colour temperature. Most resources say warm 2, but I find it's very yellow. Where as medium seems more natural.

On Technicolor, Warm2 is slightly cooler than D65. Warm3 is slightly warmer than D65. If you’re running Warm1 or cooler, it’s completely wrong. C8 looks best and most accurate with Warm3, so long as everything else is properly optimized.

Screw it. I'm getting a calibrator when I can spend the money.

I have terrible problem of not learning unless visually shown. So I'll probably end up annoying them with a million questions.
