Seriously, maybe these upscalers will work slightly better than upscalers we have now but as I have said all along since Toshiba announced this,

You simply cannot make prime rib out of hamburger, Toshiba!

What about the thousands of dvd's out there with sub-par and poor quality transfers? Is this upscaler going to magically perfect those too? Is it going to take those very lossy soundtracks and uncompress them all for us?

Thanks but no thanks, me be blu!

any thoughts on Toshiba's persistent refusal to join the BDA? Head stuck in the sand? Toshiba leadership just unwilling to commit seppuku?
In a nutshell, it's a pride thing on top of there not being a large enough market yet for it to negatively affect their bottom line

There's a lot of people who will go down for the failure of HD DVD that haven't made their graceful exits yet

That's an interesting factoid if true. It's been several months since the plug was pulled, and while we can banter about the exact date (maybe Twister's release on HD DVD at the end of May) being the swan song, I'm surprised to hear that those who were responsible still haven't gotten what was coming around.

Wouldn't it be a simpler explanation to say that Toshiba is doing what they can to "not-promote" Blu-ray, in a sideways defense of their DVD royalties? Bearing in mind that they get almost nothing out of Blu-ray royalties, one can hardly expect them to kill their own golden egg laying goose by joining the BDA or aiding and abetting Blu-ray in any way whatsoever.

Personally, it seems to me like things such as Super UpConversion are just a smokescreen. We've had all kinds of fancy upscaling methods available on computing platforms for years, and while a software-upscaled image can look pretty good, the differences between the various methods aren't so very big, and the net effect isn't really that impressive even with the best upscaling techniques.

Nobody say anything about the score, as I’m taping it!

On a side note, does anybody know if anyone has calculated which Premier league in Europe has the most players making up the squads for all the countries that have made it this far in the Euro Cup. I mean, is it the Prem in England, Serie A or La Liga ?

And does anyone know what club team (Arsenal ?, Man U ?, Real Madrid ?, etc.) has bragging rights to most of the players that we’re seeing in the Euro Cup?
Just wondering.
Germany brings 57 players, England 43, Spain 41.

As for clubs, Madrid, Barcelona, Werder Bremen and Bayern Munich (2 spanish, 2 german ones, each with 8) are the biggest contributors.

I have no idea about all this stuff, I'm just a decent Googler...

(Like Cipher said earlier -- I didn't read all the way)

I've said this before, but if one really wants to improve DVD it's in the deinterlacing more than upscaling. There is no way Toshiba is going to create a deinterlacer that, for example, matches Realta and ABT...especially at the price range they are targeting. And even something like those top deinterlacers cannot produce an image anywhere near real 1080p.

Just like HD DVD was a scam in all reality when you think about it, so is "super" upscaling.

Doesn’t matter.
I watched it already.
I hate when the player with the biggest heart gets carried off the field in the first 10 min. of the match.

Penton,

Why no MIB II?

I saw it on TNT not too long ago and the picture quality looked really good and seemed like it was in good enough shape for a bluray release.

Can you tell the powers that be that MIBII needs to come out as well?

Thanks

There's a push-and-pull on this stuff as to how much *added value* should be 'added', and if deemed appropriate, that takes a lot of time to do.

Plus, Will Smith is an active working actor and I'm sure he will appear in some new theatrical presenation in the future.

Good !
Now, how about you or somebody else mention who was the title sponsor for the broadcast last night, since I’m sure you switched off the Laker slaughter and needed something more pleasant to watch.

For this thread, I think there is no such thing as “going off-topic”.
I watch/listen to what everyone says about everything !

Even Italian babes talking about DNR in reference to video surveillance cameras…………..

I think -

Penton,

Any idea what happened to the Godzilla Ultimate Edition.

It was cancelled and nobody has said a peep since.

Thanks.

Hello P-Man,
Can you give me any help here.....

Anyone have any inside info about the possibility of a Deadwood, Sopranos, Curb Your Enthusiasim, Movie or some other wrap up or extension? Or do I just need to let it go...... My main interest is Deadwood. What a great series! Kinda left me hanging though. Curb ended great (With the blacks)but I would love to see more from LD.
I would be content to leave Sopranos end the way it did but you still hear rumors from time to time. Any info (Blu or otherwise) would be great.
