Sony seriously needs to go with DTS-HD MA.
I'm sorry, but Dolby TrueHD tends to have a very "watered-down" sound compared to DTS-HD MA. Anything DTS is better than anything Dolby for that matter. DTS simply has far more extensive dynamic range, much more powerful yet clean bass, far more noticeable timbres (even the most subtle timbres) and a much more convincing midrange (perhaps the most important part of the audible spectrum). Directionality, clarity, and purity of surround effects are the hallmarks of DTS that simply cannot be matched by Dolby.
I'll even go as far to say that ALL studios must adopt DTS (particularly HD MA) full-time in order to truly make Blu-Ray Disc the superior product that it was intended to be. Blu-Ray is kicking the pants out of DVD in every respect, most importantly in world-wide sales of BD players and BD discs (even in these tumultuous economic times, BD has grown and will continue to grow as an intractable power in the consumer electronics industry). I do believe that the full incorporation of DTS as the Blu-Ray audio standard will help make the Blu-Ray format a total success in the pursuit of sonic perfection, let alone it's visual perfection.

Anybody who thinks that TrueHD is trash hasn't watched and listened to 30 Days of Night. One of the boomiest, rangiest, present tracks I've heard. 5-star no doubt. If you can't tell, I'm fine with SPE using Dolby TrueHD. And also, I like typing it.

Doesn't matter to me, lossless is lossless and my PC and PS3 can decode both. But I can see DTS-HD MA being more useful because of it's core lossy DTS track.

Ok agreed here because i have it at home and watched it couple times in my home theater. We are not saying Dolby-THD is trash but DTSHD master audio is a little bit better for many reasons already explained in this thread.

let me ask you this question if Underworld the third part was released simultaneously into two different copies one with Dolby-THD and one with DTSHD master audio which one you will buy?

as for me i will choose blindly DTSHD master Audio.Or what if next year Sony released this movie in DTSHD master audio you are mad or not.

For me DTSHD master audio is better and it is shown clearly here in this thread among different opinions and Poll.

Thanks

Might I add for clarification, that we are not looking for any “right” or “wrong” answers here per se, or who is “correct” or “incorrect”, the study is to gauge more importantly, what consumers think about the situation and if their personal thoughts and opinions are strong enough to compel them to vote and how the votes tally.

Thanks Penton for your comment and interference in this thread and Hopefully Sony will choose what is suitable of course DTSHD master audio.

I always read your operator thread in inside discussion and i'm usually very happy with your discussion. We are learning from you a lot including many experience users but have never interfere there only when Blu-ray had a hard fighting against its counterpart. With Blu-ray.com i'm an experience now and i'm practicing my second english language for better.

Or Transformers, or Enchanted.... Those are three of the best soundtracks I have ever heard, and guess what, they are all TrueHD!! Everyone wants to claim that DTS-MA is better becuase it's "more crisp" and "more dynamic" but that's not the case. It is actually mastered about 4dB's louder which leads to the perceived increase in dynamics and crispness.

I don't dislike DTS-MA, I just don't want Sony to switch for the wrong reasons. And for everyone complaining that they can only get the DTS core signal.... it's time to upgrade! You already upgraded to 1080p, it's about time you upgraded to lossless audio as well

I'm curious? When you say "the wrong reasons", what do you see as the wrong reason to make the switch?

Lossless is lossless. There is no better lossless than the next, unless one is mixed and eq'd more dynamically than the other.

I actually think with this format, I don't care. That was not the case with the DVD format, where you could tell the differences in the mixes. 30 days of night, Casino Royale, Nightmare Before X-mas, All great examples of great trueHD mixes that are out there.

The wrong reasons being that people think it is cleaner and more dynamic when it is actually just mastered at a louder level, or "hot".

I also don't like the core DTS signal as an excuse. I know it is beneficial to those who haven't upgraded yet, but bluray is about the optimum experience so this kind of a decision shouldnt be decided by those using a less than optimum setup. I'm not saying you need a top-of-the-line HT or anything, but there are lots of biased comments in this thread from people who have never even heard lossless becuase they don't have the correct gear....

All 3 lossless codecs sound incredible over my SC-07 so I voted no. As long as there is a lossless track on all BD releases than all is good for me!

Yes, ALL is the key word. No more Speedracer, Motly Crue, and Ozz Fest in lossy !

Yes for dtsHDMA, for obvious reasons. Higher bit-rate on lossy core, less space taken up on disc. Overall more demand for it, from my clients, as well as the collective groups of people in the industry with which I deal with.

Please drop it. True HD is weaker sounding. DTSMA is great!

I'm sure that wouldn't be Sony's reasoning.

I tend to think it's could be for the reason I previously floated: 2 DTSMA tracks may be more efficient than 2 TRUHED and 2 DD tracks.

My fault. I just noticed your location in the world and didn't realize that English was not your first language.

No problem.
If I could write half as well in a foreign language as you do, I would be the better man for it.

I don't actually care between DTS-HD MA and Dolby TrueHD, but if you use TrueHD, you also have to include a regular lossy track for those that cannot use TrueHD. For that reason, I prefer DTS-HD MA; its core DTS track can be played by older receivers, and another audio track is not needed.
