Kino mentioned that they still have other Vincent Price titles to announce. By the time they're done, there may not be enough films available to Scream Factory for a Volume 3.

Not necessarily.. I think it still is possible , it might not look like it but there are still plenty of Price titles to make a set, it might not be a lot but it can happen. You can count out Theater of Blood and the Dr Goldfoot films though

Instead of steel books, I'd rather see something released that I'd actually be interested in buying

While a lot of the recent announcements have been underwhelming, they are all still interesting additions to the Scream Factory lineup and ones I plan to pick up eventually. A good library isn't made up of only blockbusters. To be perfectly honest I am probably more turned off by the addition of titles like Escape from New York and Mad Max than I am from the other lesser known titles.

They're releasing some big movies like Escape From New York and Mad Max within the next 30 days. I am sure there are more big announcements coming for later in the year. The more cult focused stuff is great to have on BD for fans, that's what smaller labels are for.

This whole conversation baffles the hell out of me.

Is it just me or does it feel like Scream Factory has borderline run out of films to release? I noticed the number of Collector's Editions being released has gone down significantly since the start of the company as well.

I have to disagree with Escape from New York. I think that one has some sense in being labeled with Scream Factory since they already have so many other John Carpenter titles. If it were Starman then that'd be another story. Mad Max, however, I think should have been under the Shout label. Either way I have them both ordered, so no point complaining now.

I think they have as well. Due to a lack of studio deals, they just seem to release MGM, with the occasional independent. Add to that that the MGM well is drying up, due it's being tapped by other companies as wellsuch as Scorpion and especially Kino, there isn't a lot left for Scream.

Especially when other companies are releasing some of their highly requested titles, such as Deranged and other Vincent Price titles.

Perhaps the dwindling amount of potential catalog movies for Scream to put out is why they made that deal with IFC so they could still put some stuff out.

Hell...with that IFC deal, I hope IFC still has the rights to Shinya Tsukamoto's Tetsuo films because that would be one hell of a potential release for Scream Factory. A great introduction to Scream putting out non-English movies (Although "The Bullet Man" is pretty much entirely in English aside from a few very, very minor moments).

It would be nice if SF could put out an uncut Blu of the Hong Kong slasher film Dream Home.

The current DVD is under the IFC Midnight label.

1. I am SOOOOOO not into the steelbook idea.

2. I just want Cry of the Banshee on blu-ray... like yesterday lol. That's one of my favorite Price films.

I'm not big on Steelbooks and wouldn't rebuy a movie just to have one.

Every once in a while I'm just going to repeat myself. It seems like Scream has done well with the relatively new releases (in addition to their traditional releases). I think it's time they start broadening their newer releases. I'll keep pushing until I see movies like Turistas out on blu! Thought that was a fun movie. The Haunting (remake). Rose Red. Serpent and the Rainbow. Lots out there. No idea who has the rights but I think there's still opportunity for Scream.

That's kind of an odd statement given the fact that they are about to release

Escape From New York
The Babadook
Mad Max
Ghoulies 1 & 2
Sleepaway Camp 2 & 3
Dog Soldier
Howling 2
Robot Jox
Ghost Town

All of these are pretty big b-horror films. Granted most are no Halloween 2, Prince of Darkness, Night of the Demons, but all listed are better than a lot of previously released films.

They'll continue to get rights to lots of fun horror films. And Sci-Fi and other genres close to it.

On the steelbook situation,
I vote yes for future releases and select few previous releases. However, I vote a resounding NO for releasing previous releases with any new special features or anything along those lines.

Now that MGM has released Poltergeist 2 and 3 it wouldnt surprise me to see SF license them. A friend of mine told me MGM doesnt sublicense their top 200 sellers unless they have already released it on blu ray. Thats why SF was able to license Escape from NY and Mad Max. It also made me wonder if SF would go after Robocop but the current editions are really excellent
Frankly Id rather them spend money on releases where the asking price is higher and invest in it. Thats why Im also a NO on the steelbooks.. Nice to have , sure, but not mandatory and I really hate to buy the SAME movie again, which I wouldn't unless it was a sale offer that I couldnt refuse.
Going forward , if they license new acquired films that they want to do steelbooks for, I might go for that..

I don't even get why people find steelbooks attractive. Not trying to offend or step on any toes...I just don't understand the appeal. A case is a case.

I typically only get them when I plan to get the new release anyway. A lot of the time when it's a new release, the steelbook is the same price as the regular release ($25 or so). For the same price, I feel like I'm getting more for my money and something cool and unique. Other than that, I could care less really. I'm not the type to go out hunting them and paying $100s for some hard to find one. Also don't double dip just because of the case.

Agree on Robocop. They would really have to pull a rabbit out of a hat to get me to want to triple-dip on that one.

The Terminator, on the other hand...
