I have fun memories of watching this on the USA network during Summer afternoons when school was out in the 90's. Who owns the rights to this, anyone know?
I'd be up for a release of Munchies. I haven't seen it since it first aired on cable. Is there any other Gremlins ripoff it could be paired with? I don't see it being released by itself.

Well I certainly wouldn't want to waste Critters on a double bill, that can have a box set.

Hobgoblins on the other hand.....

Scream won't get Critters (it's WB property), which is why I didn't mention it.

Well, it had two "sequels" (Munchie + Munchie Strikes Back) so it could be a triple feature, even though the later two films were not really connected at all to the first one outside of the name "munchie".

I want Munchie Strikes Back in a limited edition steelbook with the cd soundtrack and an art book detailing the production's history and legacy.

Yeah my first instinct for a title to pair it with was instantly this...

But I'm not sure decent elements exist nor am I sure that Troma would part with it. So with that out, here were my other thoughts.

Any of these paired with Munchies could be labled Matinee Movie Madness or some other general description to note that these are the "Family Friendly" esque films from the 80's.

Troll is one that just has to be on the way, from Scream or some other studio.

You've got everything from public domain (Satanic Rites of Dracula) to the ones yanked from release and now locked up in the WB vault (When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth) to made-on-demand ones (Sony - Creatures the World Forgot, Lionsgate - Lust for a Vampire, several from Warner) to the handful that MGM had which have all already been released by various labels (the Synapse blurays, Shout's Vampire Lovers disc). Then there are the tons which are totally OOP in this country and seem to all be owned by Studiocanal.

So yeah, if they can make a 90 movie box set that's a collaboration between 10 different studios I'll be the first to buy it, but I think more likely we'll get a handful of WB's 15 titles they still have and be stuck importing most of the rest of them. Anolis in Germany is releasing them at a pretty good clip now, but there's just so many of the darn movies I don't think we'll ever get close to seeing all of them on bluray.
Well I am mostly interested in the best of the core franchises (Dracula, Frankenstein, etc.). I'm not sure what all Warner can release, but my current plan is to wait and see what they do and then pick up others where I can.

I'm kinda surprised that Scream never got around to releasing The Dunwich Horror. Lovecraftian films have a pretty solid fanbase. Maybe Kino is getting that title?

It's gotta be on someone's release schedule, it just hasn't been announced yet. Same with PANIC IN YEAR ZERO. I'd be shocked if no one grabs any of these titles. I guess you can add BURNT OFFERINGS to that list too.

Im sure some studio(s) have them. If a title has no HD master , it will not be announced until the restoration is done completely and is * good to go *

A few cryptic posts across various forums and Facebook pages lead me to believe that Panic in Year Zero and especially Burnt Offerings are coming from Kino at some point (that's not confirmation by any means, just my suspicions). For one, the latter would need a new HD master, and only Kino are seemingly willing to do that for titles such as these.

Has Scream gone out of business?

The way you say that they "never" got around to releasing it makes it sound like they have finished releasing movies.

It's only in the last year that most of the MGM titles have come available for licensing and large numbers are still unreleased or are in the pre-order stage. Even today, note the MGM movies from Scream that are in pre-order. Just because a movie isn't on Blu-ray today doesn't mean that they never got around to releasing it.

I have a question for you guys who own both of the Vincent price collections. Which do you feel has the better collection of movies? I recently watched tales of terror for the first time and I enjoyed it so much that i decided I need more Vincent price in my collection. Out of volumes 1 and 2 I've only seen witch finder general (I thought it was really good but was told it's nothing like the other movies in the collection). So of the 2 volumes which do you consider better?

First one by default since it has the three better-known Poe films (generally considered the best three, I personally like Tomb of Ligeia the most) and the superior first Dr Phibes. You should still get the second, but make sure you also get the single release of The Fly since the second set has the sequel to it. That single release of The Fly also has a good documentary on Price's life and career.

Volume 2 includes The Raven and Comedy of Terrors, which are in the similar horror/comedy style as Tales of Terror.

I was leaning towards the first since it has atleast one movie I really liked and I would like to see it in HD. I'm sure eventually I'll go for both volumes but for now I'm going to order volume 1. Thanks!

The Legacy? sweet! that's been on my wishlist for a long time for SF.

Now give us Firestarter Collector's Edition and Nightmares too SF.

Yes! Nightmares please. "The Bishop of Battle" and "The Benediction" were great segments that need to be part of every 80s Horror fan's collection.
