Knowing how Scream factory likes to give swerve answers though, isn't it possible that when he said Universal wouldn't license the films, he was referring to their digital equivalents and not the Blu Rays. For Scream factory, having both licenses are likely part of their negotiations, so without both, they simply consider the agreement a failure. Since Universal has done nothing with the films other than release digital versions and a DVD set, I'm inclined to believe that Scream Factory COULD get Blu Ray (Home Video) licenses without much problem, however it's the digital licencing that's caused the hang up as Scream Factory may not want one license without the other. It certainly makes more sense than neither studio doing anything with the films which is what the standing theory has been.

On how many of their releases do they actually have both the physical media and digital rights, though?

The few releases I can recall that did come with a digital copy were of an obscure PC type digital copy.

While it's true Scream Factory have been known to deny titles that they ultimately have in order to time their announcements and such accordingly, the Jaws sequels are most definitely a few films you can count on them not nabbing, at least for the time being. Regardless of public opinion, the sequels have garnered a hefty sum of money for Universal that they continue to reap from. Being continuations from one of the greatest films of all-time, the Jaws sequels are an asset to the company that they will continue to capitalize on including, Blu-ray releases when they see fit. Once Universal has their first grabs out of the way, it could be possible that they'd license the films out to Scream Factory in a similar way to how The People Under the Stairs was handled but, that would still be years away.

The short answer is no, they COULDNT Digital licensing has no role. And what Frightener22 said above pretty much sums it up. We both know what's up with the Jaws sequels. They just arent going to happen. Even MGM doesnt license out films to Shout that are top 200 sellers and have done their own bluray release of the film such as Escape from NY.

I think Jaws 2 and Psycho II are about on the same level in terms of how they're regarded. Both had the impossible task of following up an unbeatable classic but on their own rights were pretty good and had reasonable box office returns and an alright reputation, but in the long run couldn't compare to the game-changing originals.

People forget Jaws 2 was one of the biggest movies of the year it came out and at the time was the top-grossing sequel ever (of course this wouldn't last long when a certain sequel followed in 1980), I think it has enough clout to be on blu-ray especially considering the DVD release only came out a year after the original. Its only been in recent years where people lump it alongside Jaws The Revenge.

I don't know about when they came out, but as of today Psycho II is generally considered surprisingly good while all three Jaws sequels are generally seen as total, verified excrement of the highest order. I know that's how I feel about them.

Unsurprisingly, this board (and other genre ones) has a lot of people who claim Jaws 2 is some kind of masterpiece.

Jaws II fish poo. Such a far cry from the first. But to each ones own in terms of film taste. Psycho II , IMO is really well done, its not the Hitchcockian classic like the first, but its great on its own merits - I even like Part III.. IV was okay

The one part I do like in those two movies is the scene in 3 where the unbelievably fake-looking shark crashes into the glass in super slow motion while everyone is shown having a separate hilarious reaction in super slow motion. Very Austin Powers. I would definitely buy one of those big studio cheapo three movie packs of 2-4 (ala the Predator or Hannibal ones), but that would be about all I'd spend on them :P
