October is almost upon us. Have Scream said anything about their plans yet? Obviously new titles will be announced, but can we expect a raft of announcements like last year (20+ I believe), or a more reduced number? I think we only have 6 scheduled so far for next year (two for January, the rest roughly pencilled in) so I imagine there must be a good deal to announce.

![]() Harsh, but - until they got Paul Shipper involved - very true. Heck of it is, people seem to be less enthused with his classy Struzan-style goodness than with the more, ah, expressionistic artwork that they've employed up until now. Very odd. |

It seems that way because roughly half of their 2015 schedule was announced as part of their bulk announcements (Comic Con 2014, 31 Days of Scream Factory and Comic Con 2015) and because they're releasing more contemporary films. In terms of actual production, by the end of the year, they will have released almost as many titles in 2015 as they had in 2012 - 2014, combined.

Not caring about contemporary releases cuts the list down by around 1/3 for me. My wallet likes that.

Even though I'm not particularly a fan of Scream I do prefer Shipper's artworks compared to many of the other people. |

Oh, I feel the same way but it was weird that when I started losing my shit over Shipper's covers for Mad Max or EFNY some other people who usually do the drooling over Shout's new art were like 'meh'. (I'm not implying that the two events were related, it's just a reminder how we hoomans are different.) It's almost like it's too classy, and isn't the DTV 'bargain bin' kinda feel that the other artworks have. Perhaps that's what peoples is after with all these cheapy horror flicks, I dunno.

In my head when I look at the prior efforts it seems to me being more run-of-the-mill comic book artwork which isn't all that greatly detailed. Of course many of my favorite comics artists go for more extensive detail instead of being extremely shoddy such as Mark Bagley. It's one of the main reasons why I'd wish instead of slipcovers for Scream/Shout releases, they'd offer booklets similar to Criterion, Arrow, and Eureka (Masters of Cinema). Of course I care more about the original poster artworks too compared to the majority of other artists before Paul Shipper. Those I wouldn't even care about having the Slip even though I'm a fan of them. Of course, YMMV. I only have 5-6 Shout/Scream releases anyway. EDIT: I grew up in the 1980's, 10 in 1989, where the majority of the front of VHS boxes made or break a rental or purchase. Tons of movies I still enjoy and appreciate today were largely soly based on the artwork chosen for them. Agreed with you Geoff the majority of the other arts seem as though they're riding on the coat-tails of DVDs DTV mantra where it was shoddily put together with lazy artwork. That one prison horror movie with Viggo Mortenson doesn't even look like him on the commisioned artwork. It's terrible and doesn't make me want to watch the movie. Same with I consider the Sleepaway Camp Trilogy commisioned covers to be low-quality artworks and would automatically not even consider using that side in the case for display. But the Shipper ones always catch my eye whenever I go to Best Buy or Fry's Electronics since they're damn fine quality. Last edited by Ray_Rogers; 09-30-2015 at 01:04 AM. |

I just think that it rocks out that someone somewhere out there cares enough about these older long-lost forgotten horror films to make brand-new original artwork for them.
Never in my wildest childhood dreams did I imagine that a Blu-ray with original brand-new artwork for Assault on Precinct 13 or Squirm would be released during my adult life. When I was a teenager, I never imagined in my wildest dreams that somebody would make prestigious original artwork for a Blu-ray release of Pumpkinhead. Scream Factory... God bless 'em. |
