A title like The Fly is huge, so I'm fairly certain they'd give it a 2k/4k scan. Even though I would prefer if Criterion released it, but I don't know if they'd have any interest in it. I haven't seen Fly 2 is close to a decade but remember it being pretty bad. I'd love to give it another shot though if it comes to Blu! Yeah, fingers crossed Olive stays away from it.
Criterion seem to pass on movies with cheap and decent editions out already, which The Fly has. Seems more up Shout's alley.

Return II is with Warner so forget about it
As for Dawn, Richard Rubinstein is asking for too much money for that title and Martin

I know, that's why I said it was my list of what I wanted released but won't be the 5.

I read recently the real story with the Dawn producer asking for so much money for the rights is that he spent something insane like 6 million to convert the damn thing to 3D, and obviously no one wanted that, so now he's trying to hold out for enough money on the video rights to get him out of that 6 million hole. I guess making one idiotic mistake calls for making another by refusing to sell the rights until the value decreases even further than it would have been a few years ago and he stays even further in debt. :/

Rubinstein should just cut his losses, toss the 3D version of "Dawn" in the trash (considering how 3D Blu-Ray is pretty much dead as a door nail these days) and allow Scream/Criterion/Arrow/whoever else to release a good blu-ray equivalent of the old Anchor Bay Ultimate Edition.

I mean, eventually Toho caved in to allow a good blu-ray release of the "Battle Royale" movies after asking too much money (and an impossible to be accomplished US release) for many years, so this schmuck should eventually do the same with the Romero movies he's holding hostage.

This is interesting:

Would these be the October titles then, or include some of those slated for November and December?

2) Tales From the Hood
3) Candyman (Confirming a new limited relationship with Sony)
4) Slumber Party Massacre II/III Double Feature (Signaling the acquisition of more Corman material)
5) One of the many requested foreign films [Rec], Pontypool, etc (Signifying that they are looking for new properties for the line)
For me, leave off PHANTASM and SLUMBER, and you have an amazing list of films I would die for.

I think Ill wait until the week of the the SDCC before I start guessing because who knows what Shout will announce before then. I hope nobody leaks anything before the convention because I love a good surprise and would rather the label announce a title themselves..
Hide those buttons well Shout Factory !!!
Based on past years I dont think it will be all upper tier titles and never know what studios and other companies' titles Shout might have gotten ...

These will probably be October titles that we'll already know about before anyone gets their hands on the buttons. I expect one of them to be Carrie.

That was my initial thought too, which makes the secrecy a touch puzzling.

Still with the doom and bloom 3D is dead? 3D isn't going away as much as some people want it to go away. It's still strong (at least in Europe and Asia), movies are still coming out in 3D and 3D sets are still coming out. How this reads as "dead as a door nail", I don't know.

They're probably just being more careful about leaks this time, since we saw the leaked buttons last year on June 15th. They want to make sure they announce these titles before we find out about them.

Assuming it's MGM stuff, I'd say Misery and Silence of the Lambs are almost sure bets. They're in the same league as Carrie, and apparently nothing is off-limits anymore. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if SF has the RoboCop franchise or even the original Terminator. The Poltergeist sequels are also likely at some point.

If anything at Sony/Columbia has changed in terms of them relaxing the no-extras rule, there's a smorgasbord of great potential titles and re-issues to mine there, such as Piranha II, Candyman, When A Stranger Calls, Happy Birthday To Me, 976-Evil, The Seventh Sign.

Could they top the existing recent releases of Robocop and Terminator? I think those might be a stretch. Robocop 2 and 3 could be possible I suppose, but maybe they're better Shout Select prospects.

Misery I think is a certainty, not least as the existing release is devoid of extras. And if Arrow can get James Caan for a new interview I'd say Scream could. Silence of the Lambs would have to have a 4K restoration as the key selling point, as I very much doubt they'd be able to get new input from Foster and Hopkins.

I never thought MGM's Special Edition of CARRIE could be topped but here we are. The PQ was, of course, not ideal but that DVD was pretty great. But with the announcement of Carrie I just think everything is fair game - even already great previous releases. I'm not advocating for SF to just do reissues but these titles will take front and center for SF. At least it'll help finance the acquisition of lesser films.

I think - and I hope Scream would agree - that there always has to be some 'need' for a new edition - be it an improved transfer, the inclusion of various cuts, or new/more compelling extras (this should be the least concern IMO, unless a previous release had none whatsoever). With all of Scream's upgrades of MGM and Universal titles so far this year, these kinds of new incentives are what we are seeing - TCM 2, RotLD, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Thing and Carrie are all offering new transfers in addition to new extras, and, while Manhunter did not, at least it included both cuts with the DC utiziling a HD source but with SD inserts. As I said before, Misery would be a good candidate, as they could include the old extras for the first time, add new ones and probably give us a new transfer to boot. If they can get a deal with Fox, a 4K scan of The Fly would be fantastic, as that early release is quite lacklustre now. But given that Robocop and The Terminator had recent releases sourced from 4K restorations, with satisfactory extras, I'd be surprised if Scream went after them solely to add more extras. Stranger things have happened of course, but it lends fuel to the 'slap a slipcover and new art on it' arguments.
