As did their release of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. All bets are off until we hear news about the transfer itself. They don't appear to have any compression issues anymore, so it could come down to a battle of extras. It seems SF is keenly aware they're being directly compared to Arrow and would prefer to be seen superior, so I'm sure they'll be going for that. Especially with Arrow trying to expand in the Region A market.

With all the Arrow speak, I'd be much more into them if their prices were down a bit. As much as I appreciate films, I can't justify spending the average, around $25, for them. I feel like Scream Factory's prices ($20ish) is right where it should be. For that extra $5, an older film just isn't worth it to me. They have many great titles that i'd love to own but don't even consider it because The Stuff and Blood Rage aren't worth a quarter of $100 each to me. I'm not sure, maybe i'm just cheap.

Thought this year's SDCC announcement slate was excellent. Extremely looking forward to the Slumber Party Massacre sequels double feature and Black Christmas. Also nice to see David Cronenberg finally join the Scream Factory lineup. Should be some great cover art / posters for all the Collector's Editions.

[QUOTE=zbinks;12477244]Weintraub Entertainment Group had purchased a large film library from The Cannon Group in 1987 (Thorn-EMI Screen Entertainment), but I believe that library is currently owned by StudioCanal, not MGM/UA, and featured titles such as Highlander and Link. I believe they handled/inherited home video distribution for Howling II, Return of the Living Dead and Dreamscape under the Thorn EMI / HBO Video labels, but I think that was the extent of their involvement.

I'm pretty sure Howling II and Return of the Living Dead were acquired from Hemdale Film Corporation's bankruptcy through Lambda Library Company, Inc. (now an MGM subsidiary).

That does make sense but some of the Hemdale and Weintraub Entertainment titles are with MGM

Ain't calling you cheap but I don't think a $5 difference is that big a deal, and Arrow make up for it a bit with a nice booklet and better case. Now if you're someone trying to get every movie for $10 like a lot of members here are then I could see a $25 cost looking pretty crazy.

I'd love a completely uncut version of the film, too, but what with Wes having passed, I figure that's extremely unlikely.
I thought the version released was already uncut? I mean I remember hearing Craven tell a story on how they duped the MPAA with a different film, and released the real version with the others rating. And he said he didn't make really any cuts to it.

Did I imagine this? Anyone have any other info on this?

Sorry if this has already been asked but is there any chance Scream might get the Return of The Living Dead sequels? That would be pretty awesome lol

Man that's a bummer. I can't explain it but I really love this whole series. I'm a pretty big zombie fan in general so it is prob not too shocking lol

Maybe Warner will release II.
Not going to hold my breath on III.

Wishful thinking

I remember seeing somewhere that the rights were up for purchase on eBay for Return of the Living Dead 5, so if we all invest in that we could probably make millions on blu-ray sales! We all know how beloved part 5 is!

The auction has ended but both 4&5 were up separately (guess nobody wanted that sweet Rave to the Grave money).

or they could just watch it and if they dont like, they could just not watch it again.

I'd really be interested in knowing the actual costs that a company like Scream Factory incur in the cost of acquiring the rights to an existing film, rescanning its negatives, producing some extras, and producing physical copies for sale (plus all the fixed overhead costs for their company).

Like, Return of the Living Dead was already available for $10. And most of the extras were the same as on this new version that just came out. Do you think Scream Factory are making a killing on their new version? Do you think the margins are slim? I'm really curious. They obviously wouldn't be doing this unless there was a profit, but is it likely they're scraping by and doing it for the love of films? If so, is what they're doing sustainable in the long term? Is that a possible explanation for why they started releasing films in limited quantities of 1000?

they cover this on some of their podcast appearances from killer pov and shock waves.

not all of their titles make money. if i remember correctly, if a title like this that has a ton of name recognition and is popular is successful and maybe even overperforms, they can take more risks on some of the lesser known titles. (i believe they even used scarecrows as a example. something that was widely requested but did not move a lot of copies.)

i think they also may have said that they also do not have digital rights, just domestic home video rights.

The hope is that with Lionsgate seemingly open to releasing their back catalog, that ROTLD 3 might make their release schedule. Either that or Arrow through their relationship with the film's producer, Brian Yuzna.

My post was in response to a potential blind-buy scenario. Some people don't have $20 to freely spend on something they may end up hating because they assumed they would be getting a straight forward slasher and get a guy singing and dancing with a guitar instead.

This is why horror fans must buy Lionsgate's upcoming releases of Chopping Mall and Blood Diner. Show them we want more.

This is the folly that Code Red repeatedly fall victim too. Just because there is a vocal outcry for something doesn't mean the amount of people making the outcry warrants it happening.

The distribution rights for those films only included foreign markets and not the US as Lionsgate holds the US distribution license. The asking price was right around $45,000 per film if I remember correctly. Had the US rights been included it potentially could have meant more interest and a possible future Blu Ray release, however considering the rights were only for the over sea's market I'm guessing there wasn't much interest and I'm unsure if either film ever ended up selling.
