I'd say 80s and 90s Miller went after both sides of the political aisle. He certainly wasn't aggressively conservative as he is now. In fact, you can find numerous articles where he talked about his political "conversion" after 9/11. And the problem with Miller now isn't that he's conservative, as everyone is entitled to his or her political beliefs, but he just flat-out isn't funny anymore. There are a lot of liberal comedians who aren't funny, Miller just happens to be a conservative one who is no longer funny. If you watch his last few HBO specials, they really are cringe-worthy. The 80s or 90s version Miller wouldn't be caught dead with a hack like O'Reilly.

It does? A 90's Dennis Miller would really appeal to white liberals today I think.

Granted back then it was more moderate than conservative probably. In today's world you're either far-left or far-right on TV, there is very little in-between. |

Dreamscape Collector's Edition to be released December 13th, 2016.
Extras to be announced in October. New 2K scan. US Theatrical cut, so this is censored. They mentioned they were unable to locate the longer cut that popped up on some VHS versions and wouldn't have been allowed to use the scenes anyhow due to legal constraints. |

Down here in Australia, we don't get much of the news shows you guys in America get. Although, I do watch a lot of John Oliver on YouTube. They even showed a clip from his show on the morning news once.

Might be worth mentioning. Hastings has all new movies for 40% off now. I saw alot of Scream titles with slips at mine. Discount brings most down to $11.99. Army of Darkness to $14.99. If you have a store nearby take a look.

Unfortunately, your last statement on the current state of TV is accurate. Why everything has to be cast in such extreme, black-or-white rhetoric is something I find appalling. |

I'm closer to the Libertarian side, but I'd take a Jill Stein over the Hillary or Trump. She is quite a lady. It's getting harder to enjoy films now because of all the idiots in the biz. |

I'm so glad one of his correspondents made it big who was actually far funnier than him. That correspondent is Stephen Colbert of course. As for Miller, I never found him all that funny to be honest. Just not my style of humor I guess. So, hopefully we get some new announcements in the near future from SF. ![]() |

Why has this thread started going into political crap when it should focus on movies?
Excellent announcement for DREAMSCAPE. Though I wish it were the uncensored/unrated version. |

yeppers. That's why everything is currently marked down. I stopped by last Saturday when things were 30% off and snagged Howling 2 and Cellar Dweller/Catacombs for $11.90 each. I plan to make another trip up there... (closest store is about an hour away) when the sales go to 50% off. There was a handful of Scream Factory releases I honestly can't see too many people wanting in my area so I'm thinking (hoping) that I might be able to score some amazing deals.

Man, Scream Factory is still trying to defend their Black Christmas artwork on facebook. They posted this article:
Art Is Subjective, So STOP Nitpicking Cover Art http://www.blumhouse.com/2016/08/31/...ing-cover-art/ I do think there are a lot of picky people out there that except Scream Factory to cater to them. However, I think the complainers have a case in regards to Billy's face being so clear. |

I think the complainers complain too much and agree with that article 100%. I mean sure if you're stuck with terrible artwork done by a photoshop hack, but these are actual works of art and you always get the original, so complaining just makes you look like you get off on complaining.

By even posting that blog post (I don't think it qualifies as an article), I see it as almost a passive aggressive dig by Scream Factory. I love Scream Factory to death, but those involved can be extremely thin skinned when it comes to criticism of their releases, especially things like artwork. The blog post they reference pretty much says that we should simply be happy that we get anything and references how much tougher things were back in the ancient 80's when people had to walk 20 miles up hill both ways to the video store to rent pan and scan tapes.
I lived in the 80's. Things have changed and that market is never coming back. The bar has been raised and you either adapt or die. Scream isn't the only outlet for media. They can't afford to laugh off criticism as "internet haters". People who are passionate enough to post on message boards are their core audience at this point...not people who happen to stumble upon this stuff in big box stores. It's not a market where you're printing money like in 2004. It's this core audience that keeps physical media afloat in an age where most have moved on. It's a symbiotic relationship. I don't take for granted what Scream does, but they sure as hell better not take their customers for granted either and passive aggressive digs are pretty silly as well. I like most of the artwork that Scream has done. I am more forgiving than most as I seldom complain about artwork, special features, or audio/picture quality; however, I will not apologize for having whatever opinion I want on their releases. The 20 some Scream titles sitting on my shelf and the corresponding money I've spent on them makes me care less whether they think I'm entitled to an opinion on this. It is what it is. I think the Black Christmas artwork is one of their worst newly commissioned pieces. That's my opinion. It also doesn't affect me much. If the rest of the release is great, I'm going to buy it as I love Black Christmas. That's all that matters. |

I like the part where he says...
Quote:
Personally... good or bad, I like the option of new artwork. Some of the art that people have complained about the most on this site I haven't had that big of a problem with. Some of the art people loved I thought was just ok. The great thing is that we had both editions to choose from. It's fun to see the new art on slips and the original art underneath. Do I think some art is attrocious? Absolutely. Do I think people should voice their opinion when they feel the same way? Absoultely. Do I think there are fans and users on this site that focus WAAAAAY to much energy and attention to often trivial things on covers? You better believe it.... but at the end of the day it's just words and opinions. People need to stop being so sensitive to every cristicsm that comes their way. Are there fans that act like their entitled to this or that and take things too far? Of course, but that doesn't mean that we should censor peoples right to voice their displeasure with something. It's not like this is a new problem for scream Factory either, people have been complaining about the art for nearly as long as the line has existed. If they wanted the complaints to stop they could have done something about it a long, long time ago. Most complaints typically boil down to one of two items anyways... 1) Spoilers on the cover. As we've seen here, there was a key piece of the movie included that many feel shouldn't have been included. 2) To many people/floating heads. People generally like the style of the Scream Factory covers, they illicit that 1980's feeling and are a reasonably close proximity to covers of that by gone era. However there's no reason that they should be close, and not done in exactly that same style. Pick one central plot point/character, stylize the hell out of it and make that the cover. A good 80's cover drew you in with it's kick ass artwork... depictions of blood and guts or T&A and some catchy slogans are what people liked. For whatever reason Scream Factory's current artist has interpreted "80's inspired" to mean cram as many characters onto the cover as you can and spoilers be damned. Spoliered below are just a few vhs covers that drive home the point I've just spelled out... [Show spoiler] This isn't to say that Scream Factory doesn't get it. Occasionally (Catacombs/Cellar Dweller) They create updated pieces based on the original works that look superior to what came in the 80's. The problem is that this just doesn't happen frequently enough. I love the Scream Factory label/line. I will support it until it's through or I'm dead, whichever comes first. It's why I post in this thread so much and why I have a checklist of films on my pc to keep track of what I still need to purchase. Last edited by TripleHBK; 08-31-2016 at 11:32 PM. |
