Wholeheartedly agree! Any flaws to be found with Poltergeist II are forgiven because of Julian Beck's brilliantly sinister performance as Kane.

I disagree, yes he is creepy...but sadly his role is too small to overcome the movies crappy characterizations and lame ending.

All 3 are very competently made late 80's/early 90's horror films that are worth revisiting on occasion. I already own the MGM releases of these so they currently aren't a priority for me, however they are on my list of upgrades for the future and I am happy that Scream Factory is finally giving them the attention they deserve.
The original Poltergeist is a bonafide horror classic. As a kid, I used to think Poltergeist II was just as good as the first. After a recent re-watch/reassessment though--I realized just how craptastic the sequel actually is. It has none of the subtlety, or the wonder, or the mystery of the original. Part II just beats you over the head with sheer stupidity until it reaches its hilariously OTT climax (complete with the family holding hands and flying around "the other side" ).

For me:

Poltergeist
\/
Poltergeist III
\/
\/
\/
\/
\/
Poltergeist II

II is more of the same (though I do love Kane) which makes the mistake of showing too much at the end. I still enjoy the movie though.

III is tremendously underrated, overshadowed by the tragedy of Heather O'Rouke's death and the abrupt ending that resulted from it. I wholeheartedly believe that had her death not happened, and the movie played out as intended, it would have been a horror classic that could have rivaled the first. Amazing in-camera effects that still hold up today, the deepening of the Reverend Kane mythology, an awesome cast (Skerritt, Allen), and some really creative ideas. I have a slight bias because I watched this SO MUCH as a kid and that love still holds strong today. I re-watched this as recently as a year ago, and still love every bit of it. I'm really hoping Scream has some good extras for this. I don't think Gary Sherman likes to talk about this movie so I'm not sure how much involvement he'll have, but Nancy Allen is an easy get for interviews, and i'd love to hear from the F/X guys.

I don't think P3 equals the first, but I too prefer it to P2 which is pretty much a crappy remake of the first.

Was hoping somehow I could take advantage of their October sale to get free shipping on preordering Black Christmas but went ahead and bit the bullet.

Used the Deep Discount 15% when buying three eligible horror films sale to finally snag New Year's Evil.

I had ordered the LE Child's Play set and both posters were heavily damaged (even in the shipping tube). I snapped pics and sent them to their customer service e-mail inbox. On top of that, I received my copy of The Thing on the same day but without the poster I was supposed to get.

The customer service inbox usually is very responsive, but in this instance I've been encountering nothing but problems. They first pushed The Thing poster on to some employee who was out of the office until the end of last week and then told me they were out of poster tubes for mailing and would send me the Child's Play ones once they got those in.

Last I heard from them was over a week and a half ago. I've followed up multiple times since then and no one has responded. I've never encountered this issue with their customer service before, but at this rate I'm not sure what to do. The Child's Play set wasn't cheap and I wouldn't have ordered from their store had I known I wasn't going to get a poster along with The Thing.

Random but today at Best Buy (in CT) I saw two copies of The Fog for $14.99 but no other Scream releases. Odd!

The Fog was included in the Best Buy Horror display this year and was on sale for $12.99.

Haven't been impressed with the sale. Every title I really wanted hasnt been included. Today I picked up Funhouse and I Saw What You Did but really wanted Pumpkinhead II, Army of Darkness, Lord of Illusions etc.

Guess there are technically two more days but there isnt anything I want from the B-Movies section or from the Classic section so if I only bought the one title I would have to pay shipping so prob wouldnt be that great a deal.

It's a pretty bad Shocktober sale. Some of "stone cold" deals are good, but their daily deals leave a lot to be desired. The idea of a 24 hour deal should inspire you to buy but when the savings are a mere 5%(their original price tag is horribly inflated) it begs the question why the limitations on such little savings? If it's a 1 day deal it should be a super bargain 20%-50%. Silly.

Im really looking forward to the highly underrated mysteriously hated Poltergeist 3 blu ray in January. I've always loved Poltergeist 3 and think its better than the good and entertaining but overrated first one and definitely better than the awful second one. Poltergeist 3 is dark, creepy, entertaining as hell, thrilling and the Chicago John Hancock Tower location is perfect. Some of the most fantastic shots of Chicago ever put on film. I'll never get why this movie is so hated. Its not perfect but its nowhere near bad. I give it a 4/5.

For some unexplained reason, people expect sequels to match the quality of the original. Poltergeist III is no masterpiece but it certainly isn't the terrible abomination its made out to be. And there are actually people reasoning that because they think its terrible that it doesn't need its own standalone special edition. I just think people have become too "highbrow" and believe these kinds of movies are beneath them. I pity those souls

Agreed. What's tough is sometimes, I have looked at a few sales like hmmm Day 1 blu is good, and so is the $5.99 bargain but I don't have anything to pair it with. This sale hasn't been on my radar at all.

So what would you say is an overall worse remake.

Poltergeist 2 or Poltergeist 2015?

Wow, I had totally and completely forgotten about the Poltergeist remake. And I actually saw it! I guess that says a lot.
