I love you too Warner Bros., but I despise parts 9-12.
There's no point in a 4k release. The Current releases, while a nice (sometimes dramatic) step up over DVD have a long way to go from offering all that the Blu Ray format can offer. Given the age of these films and the way they were treated, at best I'd expect a minor/marginal improvement over the existing set if Scream Factory could do new scans. The bigger selling point for having Scream Factory involved would be the possibility of reincorporating the uncut footage, a True 3d edition of part 3, Individual disc/cover art, etc. Considering the vast majority of these horror releases on Blu Ray still have left considerable room for improvement using existing technology, there's simply no reason to want 4k releases when the current Blu Rays could be improved upon. All a 4k release would do is drive the price up significantly.

I think in many cases 4k releases would actually look worse! Nobody is going to take the time and expense to completely remaster these films and then convert them to a 4k upscale....

and since they won't a 4k release would simply be the same scan upgraded to 4k.... if anything it would just make them grainier looking (80's film stock)

In the fantasy world where they do obtain access to Parts 1-8, I just hope in addition to new artwork, they include the original as a reverse cover. The Friday films had such great artwork, I must have stared at the wall of VHS with them on display at my local store for hours during my childhood. Such nostalgia, and though I love my current boxset, I would love the films to each have their original art in tact.

UHD's have been pretty "meh" for 35mm movies. Considering Shout's focus I doubt they release a bunch of UHDs any time soon.

One thing I've also never understood is why these studios that are completely uninterested in putting out their library titles on BD themselves also refuse to sublicense to a home media label. I mean, if you don't believe there's enough of a market or can't see the investment paying off enough then why not just let some other company take all the risk and sit back cashing the checks? Are these studios just expecting another DVD-era boom in home media and therefore are taking a sort of "wait-and-see" attitude, thus allowing their vast libraries to sit in some vault rotting? I've always felt like I'm missing something here. There's gotta be some logical reason.
I agree. I obviously don't know how everything works behind the scenes involving who pays for what when it comes to sublicensing but I'm baffled why studios aren't wanting to release more of their films on Blu-ray.

As for Tales From the Darkside: The Movie, I would soooo love to have that on Blu-ray.

There's no way they can obtain access to the cut scenes from Part 7 in that fantasy world? If new artwork is all they have to offer I'm good.

That would be ideal, I'm more about the movie itself and the presentation (PQ, artwork). Never been huge into extras and don't really need anything more than the incredible Crystal Lake Memories. Maybe they could chop up the bits relevant to each film from the documentary and add in some of the outtakes that was only on the Limited Edition? Extended scenes with the cut gore is a huge selling point for many so I agree that would be best in this fantasy world.

I'm pretty good with the existing PQ and artwork for the Friday films. If they can't dig up new material such as deleted scenes, no thanks.

The biggest selling point would be the possibility of some of the movies being released uncut. At this time the only movie that might be possible for is The Final Chapter, and that's not even close to being a sure thing. Getting the rights to the Crystal Lake Memories doc. and breaking the segments up for Friday 1-8 would also be a big selling point. New transfers and of course all the uncut/deleted scenes, commentaries, and trailers from the Paramount deluxe edition dvd's along with the documentary would make these a must own for horror fans. I hope it happens and Scream Factory shocks us all once again.

I think another big selling point is for people like me who missed out of the now hard to find and largely price inflated blu-ray tin set, and I would happily pay in the same price range as I paid for something like the Halloween Deluxe set from Scream for it.

Tales From The Darkside upgrade is also on my wishlist. Probably in my top 10 along with Tales From The Hood. I love me some good horror anthologies.

Speaking of my top 10 wishlist, does anyone know the chances movies like Brainscan and Rumpelstiltskin (1995) have at getting Blu-ray upgrades?

I'd say something about there being little money in doing movies with good transfers and fine extras already out there, but Scream have shown they can release damn near any 80's horror classic and make money. So Friday the 13th is surely something they would jump at despite the pretty good version already out there.

I still think it's far more likely Paramount release a simple 8 film box set timed with Halloween or the next movie though.

I think the Friday the 13th films 1-8 would be cool. Like someone else said I would like the uncut versions as well. Hard to say though who would release them. I doubt scream could get them, but one can hope.

Right now I am trying to collect the mediabooks. I have 2 and 8, and next month 3 and 7 come out.

If they were to get the Friday the 13th series, I hope they could work something out with Warner to get the remaining movies -- they worked with Warner to include the theatrical cut of Nightbreed. I'd rebuy these movies for an uncut version of Jason Goes to Hell and each movie on its own disc in individual cases, similar to the Halloween set.

A Friday the 13th box set, a Nightmare on Elm Street box set and a Cyborg: Collector's Edition are my ultimate wants from Scream Factory. I know they're unrealistic unless a deal can be made but if I could choose any title it would be those.

Cyborg isn't that unrealistic since it's an MGM title, though I don't know how feasible a viable reconstruction of the director's cut is, given the rather poor quality of the German release. Unless better elements turn up I'm not sure if Scream would tackle it. You would think a new interview with JCVD would also be necessary for any such release.

I started writing a lengthy post yesterday with this same thought but ended up deleting it. I feel like the biggest draw to a Scream Factory version of the Friday series is first and foremost going to be the fact that it's available to purchase at a reasonable price compared to the out of print costs of the existing set. Add in single disc editions of each film with original artwork and their own case and things already are moving in the right direction. Include the obvious upgrades like a True 3D version of part 3, Uncut editions of 4-8 (even if that means going the way of using lower quality inserts to get the job done) to go along with the theatrical cuts and potential TV versions as available and suddenly you have a set that will rival what's already available.

From there, if a deal with Warner could be reached, you could include the Uncut (and Theatrical) version of Jason Goes to Hell, the Monstervision/Joe Bob Brigs segments from the 90's (which I assume would be available from the Time Warner Merger) (I'd love to have the Joe Bob segments inserted into the TV versions of each film so that those watching the tv versions was truly something special again). Along with all the existing commentaries, special features and retrospectives, not to mention the possibility of excerpts from Crystal Lake Memories if the licensing fee was reasonable.

The Halloween complete collection has shown us that it only takes a handful of well done additions to existing materials to make a set very attractive and worth owning. True 3D editions of 3 and Uncut editions of JGTH would probably be enough to sway a lot of folks. Add in a new disc of extras individual case/cover art and I'm willing to bet you'd see quite a few folks double dipping as well.

I think, in general, a Paramount or (if pigs fly) Warner deal is essential if the Scream line (in its current form at least) is to continue beyond 2018. I know some people disagree, but there's only so many Universal and MGM double dips left, and once the CE's are exhausted I'd be surprised if they continued the line merely with lower tier titles from the MGM catalogue. A situation where they release mainly modern titles while dropping in the odd retro title is perhaps not out of the question, but the profitability of such an existence is obviously the sticking point.

I'd be very interested in a Friday set if everything were truly uncut - if not, i'll stick with my standalones.

Friday the 13th is the LAST Paramount property on my mind when I fantasize about a Shout Factory-Paramount deal. Too many other, worthier titles to wish for.

Were it possible, I'd want to see Prophecy up first from a Paramount-Scream deal.
