Money may not buy you happiness, but it does allow you to be miserable in comfort.

the phrase exists because 90% of the earth's population doesn't have tons of excess money!

Yes, you can be rich... and unhappy.... but for most people having the $$$ creates many, many opportunities to be very happy!

The phrase is about how a loving partner, kids, family, fun adventures and great sex (and things like that) are what makes life great. Not money. It's nice I can have a decent house and lots of blu-rays, but if I didn't have my wife and my friends and my (relatively good) health then life would suck.

I just finished watching my Scream Factory Blu-ray of Ben.

Like its predecessor, Willard (1971), Ben is an oddly heartwarming movie about the true nature of friendship and about the importance of sticking up for our friends under any circumstances. In this instance, Lee Montgomery (Burnt Offerings) as Danny, a young boy who is restricted to his home by a rare heart condition, is the one who befriends "Ben", the leader of the killer rats that have escaped after the events of the previous film. Danny and Ben form a bond that is tested by a number of situations, especially after the rats kill a police officer, rob a poultry truck, and loot a grocery store. During the conclusion, when the battle of rats against humanity comes to head in the sewers beneath the town, Danny must put himself in danger to save Ben.

Meredith Baxter, whom we all know as the mother in the television show, Family Ties, plays Danny's adorable big sister. Well-known television star, Joseph Campanella, and esteemed actor Arthur O'Connell (Anatomy of a Murder, The Poseidon Adventure) play police detectives on the trail of the rats.

"Ben", the theme song of this movie, was nominated for the Best Original Song Academy Award in 1973, and it was a pivotal song in the early career of Michael Jackson. In that sense, the world would likely be quite a different place now if not for the existence of this movie. It is, hands down, the best number one pop song ever written about the friendship of a boy and his rat.

This Scream Factory Blu-ray takes the surviving elements of Ben and pieces together as good of a presentation as can be expected. It certainly pales in comparison to Willard, which received a 4K restoration, but the picture quality shortcomings did not interfere with my enjoyment of the film.

The Lee Montgomery interview and commentary track are both entertaining.

This is another win for Scream Factory, all things considered.

Very interesting as this could be a sign of things to come for us in the US as well. $17.99 CAD roughly equals a $12.99 price point in the states.

Yeah I snagged 3 titles during that sale. Would definitely grab some titles at that price.

Oooh, there have been very few SF releases that have interested me lately so I've been quite selective in what I order. But if that $12.99 sale happened again, I'd have to jump at it. I think I got 4 or 5 last year.

The last time I ordered direct from SF was probably 4-5 years ago when the Canadian dollar was better. Combine that with the free shipping option and really good sales, I ordered about 15 titles. That was the start to my SF collecting never had one before that.

Big news - John Carpenter steelbooks coming in August...

It's hard to believe at times, but our brand is now five years old...and what a ride it has been! Our gratitude and thanks go out to everyone of you who has supported our releases and continue to do so.

Naturally, we wanted to celebrate this milestone with something cool that would be true to our retro roots and would make a big splash. As you already know, we've been very successful with our John Carpenter films so we looked to some of our older releases of his for inspiration. We then remembered the question we posed sometime years ago to you about your thoughts on Steelbook® packaging, and the response was extremely strong. So, we married the two ideas to come up with the following special offer:

- Carpenter’s classic ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, THE FOG and THEY LIVE are being reissued in a limited-edition Steelbook® packaging. Only 10,000 of each are being produced and once they're gone, they're gone! Official Release Date for all three is 8/1/17, but will ship two weeks early if you order directly from us.

- - The cohesive and conceptual artwork you see pictured on all three come to us conceived by artist Nathaniel Marsh (Carrie, The Thing deluxe piece). If you order directly from our site, your packaging will also include a 28.5” x 16.5”rolled lithograph of the illustration, while supplies last. The litho will not be available through any other retailer.

- Steelbooks will be shrinkwrapped. The Blu-rays included inside will have the same content (but with different disc label art) that is currently available in their respective Collector Edition releases.

- To our overseas fans, we regret to inform that we only have US & Canadian territory rights for these films so will be unable to ship internationally from our site unfortunately.

Escape from New York

The Fog

They Live

Not a fan of the art, think they'd have been better off going with the original poster art or the previous Scream artwork. Can't say I'm interested in any case. More re-releases to potentially fill out the schedule each month doesn't fill me with much hope for the future of the line. Hopefully they're few and far between (though if they're successful, I only see more on the horizon)

I agree not a fan of the steelbook art. The Fog I like the best but honestly I can't imagine steelbook collectors going crazy for them.

If they had original poster artwork and credits on them I bet they would have sold so fast. but these MEH.

Scream needs to stop wasting money and time on contracted artwork no offense to the artists but I've never been impressed with any of the art.

10,000 seems a little on the optimistic side at first glance, though maybe I'm underestimating the popularity of Carpenter and steelbooks.

10,000 is a lot considering most people who want to those movies already have them. And $27 each plus shipping.

As for the announcement :

Yeah, save all that wasted money and do real 4K scans from the negative, instead of 2K IP scans that rarely look much better than the previously released discs.

But priorities, you know. Many people would rather have a shiny case than the best PQ.

Don't forget the boutique label sycophants! That, the steelbook and Carpenter lovers means big dough. They'll sell out before release date, I'm sure. I'd be shocked if they don't.

I do like that artwork for the Fog, but I'm not going to waste my money and double dip on it. I still hope Amazon comes in for the save and has that sale again.

I have no interest in the steelbooks, but these are great Carpenter titles for anyone who has not yet pulled the trigger.
