I'm very happy to see there are more people here favouring the release of Clownhouse than the other way around. That makes me hopeful.

And yes, MGM doesn't have it anymore.

There are many people who have been requesting it for a few years now. It also doesn't help that its impossible to find on DVD and even VHS.

Am I alone in wanting this whole discussion just moved to a Clownhouse wishlist thread? I know, I can just stop coming to this thread too.

Ya, this same exact Clownhouse (Salva-Polanski-Allen, etc.) discussion happens on here about every 6 months like clockwork. Serious deja vu, but at least this time we got Blame it on Rio thrown into the mix!

I did.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_Polanski

“Rajmund Roman Thierry Polański (born 18 August 1933) is a French-Polish[2] film director, producer, writer, and actor. Since 1978, he has been a fugitive from the U.S. criminal justice system where he had been charged with drugging and raping a 13-year-old girl and then fled the country.[3]”

Or is now Wiki no longer a viable source of information?

...Which in and of itself has made it more productive than several of the past times this conversation has come up. I can't say I'd ever heard of Blame it on Rio and so when it was first name dropped I checked the trailer out, as well as what the big deal was with it on google and found that it's likely a film I'd enjoy. I'll likely pick it up during a future Kino sale, so in this case I'm actually glad the Clown House debate was renewed.

As for Clownhouse, I was unfamiliar with the film and controversy until it was brought up in this thread some years ago. I was able to track down a copy of the DVD a while back and gave it a spin last year to see how the film itself holds up; I was very much underwhelmed. This is a film that continues to have a legacy primarily due to the fact that it's not available for purchase by horror fans (myself included) whom often feel the desire to own all things horror, never mind the fact that for the curious there is some controversy surrounding it which automatically makes it a curiosity. It's not the worst film ever but It's so cliched, and generic throughout it's run time that you'd be hard pressed to remember it if it wasn't for the external controversy. It's not scary, it's not gorey, it's not tense, it's not campy, or even "so bad it's good". Clownhouse is a film that just sort of exists. It's purpose at this point in time is merely to be a spot filler on your shelf. The story surrounding the film is far more interesting than the film itself and even the argument that "Clowns are scary to some people" doesn't really hold much weight as these clowns are anything but creepy.

If any studio was serious about releasing this and possibly avoid some of the controversy regarding a standalone release, then they should really look into creating a feature length documentary regarding the events which transpired behind the scenes and the scandal that was/is Salva the man and then sneakily throw in the film itself as an added bonus disc/feature.

TripleHBK's right. Clownhouse isn't anything special. The Jeepers Creepers trilogy is far more worth your time than the shockingly bland Clownhouse.

I dont object to it getting some form of a release, but there's far better movies to fight for its release (Ken Russell's The Devils, for one).

By far the most deserving Film of a Bluray release.

That's why my bootleg and R2 DVD are in my treasure chest. Plus, the fully uncut torrent from a couple years ago is the way I watch it now.

Yep, Clownhouse was made under Coppola's production company Commercial Pictures, which no longer exists, and the film was basically shot in his Napa Valley property.
I'm pretty sure he owns it now.

As for the people saying there's only interest in Clownhouse because of the movie's controversy and because it's a rare film, I've been a fan of the film since the early 90's long before I heard anything about the sex scandal, at a time you could find the movie's VHS available in every video store, so yeah, speak for yourself.

I've just created a specific thread for Clownhouse since it's not a Scream Factory title:

When was the last time you watched it? I'm all about "bad" films. (Bad being disgusting, perverted, poorly written, poorly acted, exploitative, or any other number of adjectives) but as Gasmaskavenger stated this film is just bland. It's an unintentional slow burn horror film that lacks the fun that came with most 80's/early 90's efforts and the scares that so many other films had as well. I'm not faulting anyone for liking it as we all have our preferences in films... and as I've already admitted I would eventually pick it up on Blu Ray if it ever saw a release, but if it's been awhile since you last watched it I wouldn't be surprised if Nostalgia was clouding your memory of how enjoyable it actually is.

Actually I watch the film pretty regularly. It's my favorite horror film with clowns along with IT (the 1990 version of course).
A movie with clowns that doesn't work for me is Killer Klowns From Outer Space. I used to like it when I was a kid, but when I tried to watch it as a grown up I could barely finish it, it was so silly. I think the movie has its merits, it's very creative and I like the design of the clowns but as a whole it doesn't work for me anymore. That doesn't mean I'll say the only reason people like it is because they're being nostalgic about it.
So just because Clownhouse doesn't work for you doesn't mean there are not people out there who enjoy it for what the film really is.

You mean proof of a grown man lusting after the child he molested? It’s impossible to watch the movie and not notice Salva was doing something inappropriate with the child actor. The underwear scene, the bath tub scene, the scene where Salva has a cameo and is creepily standing behind the child actor, basically salivating over his shoulder - the movie, and the way it’s shot, feels very exploitive.

Yeah, there are some very uncomfortable scenes, like the older brother walking in a tight underwear and Casey showing his bare ass while changing his shorts. In fact, I don't see why they shouldn't cut those scenes out of the film if they ever do a BD restoration since they add nothing to the plot and are of poor taste.
As for the other scenes you mentioned, especially Salva "salivating" behind Casey at the circus, feels like a little bit of projection. Sorry.

Then some people would cry censorship and refuse to buy it.
