Hm, could this be an indication that NoTLD '90 might be coming from Arrow?

Probably not, that could be an outtake from her Knightriders interview.

Richard P Rubinstein's daughter, Manya K. Rubinstein probably won't be any more of a pushover than her father.

They've had a few other releases that were loaded with extras but weren't considered Collector's Editions. A few that quickly come to mind are Witchboard, The Resurrected, and Lady in White. The Resurrected had alternate artwork on the back that would have been perfect for a slipcover, and Lady in White was a 2-disc set with three cuts of the film. My only guess is that SF didn't expect these to sell well enough to justify any extra cost for making it a Collector's Edition. Although I am looking forward to Brainscan, I've never seen the movie and I don't know much about it.

That's George S. Clinton, not George "Dr. Funkenstein" Clinton.

George S. Clinton is still a great composer. Brainscan, Wild Things, Mother's Boys, plus a lot of Cannon stuff, and it's all memorable and creative. Underrated.

That could definitely be the reason, but I know Brainscan has been a long-requested title. Maybe it's not as popular as I think it is, but it's one of my top wants. I guess a lot of newer horror fans are probably not familiar with how cool it was at the time it was released.

Arrow do a lot of these, and they don't appear to indicate any specific release being in the works. I wouldn't read anything into it, not least since they don't yet have a Sony deal.

All of the excitement that others have expressed for it has definitely made it one I'm looking forward to getting. Back when this came out, I was constantly going to my local Blockbuster and Movie Gallery and renting every horror movie I could get my hands on. I don't know how this one remained under my radar.

I'm good with less things being collectors editions. Keeps the costs down for me! Especially as someone who doesn't ever watch or have time for special features.

The fact is the guy spent six million converting the film to 3D, and now no one cares about 3D anymore, at least in the states. It's also a fact that you can own the film in a real 4K presentation (I know, it's just the Argento cut), and several other Blu-rays are available. I would like to see Martin and the Night Flier come to Blu-ray, and I don't know what his asking price is or why he's not leasing the rights out, but when you own something, that's a privilege you have. You can do what you want with it.
Rubeinstein is a parasite who leeched off Romero for years although, to be fair, George did some of his best films (Dawn and Creepshow) while they worked together. But the fact is that Rubeinstein is a greedy slime who thought he'd jump on the 3D bandwagon and now thinks someone will pay off his debts by over paying for DotD. We'll have to wait for his to drop dead before his children sell off the rights.

I'd argue that one can cast just as much blame on movie buyers and television manufacturers for causing 3D to fail and be removed at this point. As someone that really enjoyed 3d and would like to purchase another set with it right now, I'd be more than a bit upset if the format/restoration you just invested a bunch of money in was quickly removed from displays rendering your project/investment irrelevant. Keep 3d alive and well and perhaps his restoration would have been viewed as something worth paying to license. As it is, until 3D returns to the home theater I can't imagine we'll be seeing this on any home video format regardless of whether it's 2d or 3d.

All things considered, the price difference between CEs and regular releases isn’t that great anymore. If anything, I prefer CEs because sometimes Best Buy or Walmart has reasonable sale prices for them.

Kino just signed a licensing deal with Universal for 100 titles. They have some horror/sci-fi titles, but mostly older ones.

So Universal is open to more than just SF and Criterion now....

actually a very good point--- Collector's Editions are often on sale for $14.99 at the examples above.... the regular editions just sit there at a $20 price point for what seems like an eternity.....

Yep. My jaw finally dropped TWICE today, first for the Criterion Bergman Box Set, and then for the KL Studio Classics Universal deal....Unfortunately, someone else hasn't made my jaw drop just yet. Hopefully, that will change at SDCC....

So, Shout Factory recently had one of those Instagram “question and answer” sessions and this was one of them:

Well, I guess that settles that. Or you could take it as some sort of weird Shout Factory hint...
