From what I recall of the audio issue with Halloween 4, it goes out of sync twice and stays that way for a few or several minutes before going back to normal. I believe the first instance is during the scene where Loomis and Meeker are outside the police station talking to the lynch mob.

I own the Shout Blu of Phantom of the Paradise - the Blu-ray disc (Region A logo on the back cover) and the Blu-ray disc is region free (works on my region B player), but the DVD disc (which includes additional extras) doesn’t work so I presume it’s coded as Region 1. I’ll likely end up ordering copies of Into the Night and Captain America at some point as those I’ve heard are region free.

I’m just grateful to all the distributors (e.g. Arrow, Manga, 101 Films, Plan B/Signal One, StudioCanal etc.) who have been able to license from Shout (or Red Shirt) so I’ve seen a good handful of Shout releases (just not on Shout discs!)

Cronenberg's The Fly, on the other hand, needs a brand new disc with a new 4K OCN scan and have all of the bonus features moved to a 2nd blu-ray (except commentaries, which will remain on disc 1), leaving the film to maximize as much bitrate as possible.
Also it doesn’t even have an encoded menu - you have to use a pop-up menu! One of the good things about the Fox release which may not make it over to a future rerelease are many of the text supplements - I spent a good hour or two reading the first draft of the screenplay and magazine articles (including Cinefex, American Cinematographer) on there. It also has scans of the original short story but printed far too small to actually be able to read.

Would love both of these to have a rerelease.

I think Criterion might do that.

We might be nearing the point where massive catalog movies like that are licensed out, but I don't think we're there yet. Not from Fox anyway. MGM yeah, but not Fox.

The Craft dropped to $23 on amazon.ca for anyone interested. I pre-ordered at that price, but was almost positive I already had this in my collection. Was it not released on blu in the past? I can't seem to find a Canadian release for it. Looks like Sony released it in the US but for that price, plus shipping and duty, might as well get the Shout release. Feels like something I should pay $10 for though.

Not much risk in licensing them out for Blu ray now when the studio can cash-in on a 4K UHD a few years from now.

Hey, I got my copy of Cobra and I noticed an improvement in the picture quality over the WB release, plus there are a ton of extras.

Cheers

The Sony release was definitely released in Canada. I remember getting it from Best Buy the day it came out.

But with the price drop I'm going to pre-order the SF edition now. I have always been a fan of the movie.

Guess I missed it. Definitely doesn't seem to be floating around anywhere now. Too bad, rather pay $10 than Shout's $23. Relatively speaking, $23 isn't bad for one of their releases but I really only care about the movie not packaging or extras. Thanks for the insight though! I was pretty sure it had a release up here just couldn't find it online anywhere now. I was also sure I had it but I double checked and apparently not. Maybe I have it on DVD in a storage bin somewhere.

With this Sony deal, maybe we could see Cruel Intentions and Wild Things collections similar to the Poison Ivy one. I have the first ones for both but would be nice to have the collections, no matter how bad they are!

Considering that none of the Sony titles from Shout's Sony deal has yet to provide new remasters they would be pointless.

I'm pretty sure they've been (unsuccessfully) pursuing this movie for years. I specifically remember it coming up in an interview back when Shout! announced Scream Factory and then again a few years ago with the launch of Shout Factory Select. Both times the person being interviewed said that they keep trying, but can't see to get the license ironed out.

The point would be to get the awful sequels on blu. Not so much to get some sort of fantastic upgrade on the originals.

If anyone is looking, I found two copies of the 10-disc Halloween set on Blu-ray at my local Best Buy today for $40. I was under the impression that it has been OOP for a while.

How is that a point? Do more than 6 people want the "awful sequels"?

Of course, putting out over-priced and over-padded re-releases of the originals is right in Shout's wheelhouse.

I agree, but so far Fox hasn't licensed anything of that caliber, and are putting stuff like Predator out on UHD themselves, so we'll see. With Disney taking them over I'd expect them to license less, not more.

I've never ordered anything from Shout. There's not any rewards membership or anything of the sort, is there? Something like a system where you earn points after purchasing that can be applied as a discount to future purchases?
