My Bloody Valentine could use an upgrade.
The Relic for those who missed out.
The Ghost and The Darkness
Prophecy
Burton’s Sleepy Hollow with HD sound
Addams Family Values (a new movie is coming out, do it now!)

Maybe any of the MTV films like Beavis and Butthead Do America

Pretty in Pink for shout select.

Shoot, any of the Nickelodeon films from the 90s would fit the Shout Select line like Good Burger or Harriet the Spy

I could see The Golden Child ending up under the Scream Factory banner, being as it's a Fantasy-Adventure, not unlike Dreamscape.

If people expect that Big Trouble in Little China would land under the Scream umbrella, I think The Golden Child would fit right in too.

I know it's not much, but I remember finding (and still have) a cut someone did called 'The Uncut Recut' where they edited Friday the 13th VII: The New Blood with the footage put back in (with no time stamps)...and they made the whole movie look like a VHS tape. They even put 'VHS trailers' at the beginning to make it seem like you found a 'long lost uncut VHS copy' of The New Blood. Thought it was pretty cool and it didn't look that bad.

No matter what I think Scream Factory will put out some great releases in the future. They have been putting out a huge range of films. From a recent increase of releases from 50s-70s Sci-Fi/Horror (which i love) up till modern day independent stuff from IFC (also love). I know a lot of you are die hard horror/slasher fans, but the modern IFC/Scream Factory releases are great. A lot of these go unnoticed and deserve some more recognition. They have a huge range of styles that can satisfy any horror fan. By far one of my favorite labels and I can countless rewatch these flicks.

Who’s releasing The Stand? Do we know if this upcoming bluray is going to be a fresh HD scan of the original film elements or just an upscale (the series was mastered on video)?

For what it's worth, Garris had this to say about the German release:

Quote:
It can only be an upscale. There is no HD master ... THE STAND was ... shot in 16mm and finished in standard def video. The elements still exist, but no one is going to go back to the negatives and reform everything from scratch.
Now that's not to say of course that Scream couldn't do it with a Paramount deal, but that's a hell of a lot of work and expense.

I first saw Session 9 sometime in the early 2000's. This was the bad old days when one didn't have the wherewithal for home cinemas and movie-watching typically happened on CRT monitors with tiny tinny speakers for sound. In some ways the grungy visuals and sound quality one experienced then added a certain aura to a film like Session 9, which aimed to creep you out with its decaying look and use of distorted audio whispers.

Session 9 can perhaps be succinctly described as a blue-collar riff on The Shining. Unlike the swanky Hotel Overlook, the "Bad Place" (As Stephen King would describe it) here is a sprawling mental asylum fallen into disuse since the 1980's. To make the place viable for redevelopment, it is first required to bring it in line with regulations pertaining to safe removal of all asbestos material used in the construction, which is what brings in Gordon and his team. Struck with family problems and desperate for the money, Gordon promises to finish the job in a punishing week-long schedule. With him are buddy Phil, still mopey over losing his girl-friend to wiseguy and third member Hank, then there's law-school dropout Mike who seems to know a lot of the asylum's history and Gordon's nephew Jeff, who is new to the job and has a fear of the dark.

A lot of Session 9's allure comes from the eerie and uncomfortable atmosphere generated by the location itself. Cavernous dust-choked hallways with sounds of water-dripping (and could those be whispers in the air?) and the ever-present hazard of asbestos fibres getting into the system. There is a tension that builds in the men's minds, with each person seemingly encountering something in the building. Gordon hears voices that seem to call him, Mike finds the session tapes of a multiple personality disorder patient called Mary whose mind hosted some immensely disturbing alter egos, Jake finds a cache of old coins and strange objects...As each day passes, the sense of dread steadily rises and, as any horror fan can guess, boils over into bloody mayhem.

Director Brad Anderson and his cinematographer Uta Briesewitz make the most of the setting (according to him, very little was needed by way of dressing the place up). The interplay of light and darkness is a crucial element in several scenes, generating a grim uneasy tone. One scene where a character is running terrified through a corridor while lights all around him go off is a throat-grabbing moment. The climax is an extremely well depicted unravelling of sanity that stands well with its predecessor in The Shining.

Session 9 was shot on 24 fps HD Video. Shout Factory's blu-ray gives an accurate depiction of the visuals and looks more polished than I remember of my previous viewing. Sound is stereo only (DTS-HDMA) but decent, although I would have been interested to hear a 5.1 remix that enhanced the sonic atmosphere. Extras include a nice 45 min retrospective making of with Anderson, actor and co-writer Stephen Gevedon, Dop Briesewitz and other cast members, director's commentary and other featurettes.

Good call on the Relic and Ghost and the Darkness. Forgot those were with Paramount. Ghost and the Darkness would be especially great because it never saw a blu release and I thought it was a really good movie too.

Mick Garris personally told me it would be nearly impossible to bring the Stand to Blu-ray. He said any of his other films would be easy, but not the Stand.

Any insight why? is it just because Paramount wasn't interested before? or is there more to the story?

This is the same situation Kino found themselves in with their "Storm of the Century" release. The amount of work, and costs associated, necessitated a DVD only release. Shout would likely be more willing to take a project like this on, but I feel that's still highly unlikely.

Because it was shot in 16mm and finished in standard definition video, meaning a whole new master would have to be created, and effect scenes would have to be re-done.

In other words, a lot of money and risk for whoever would try taking this on. Fair enough. My guess is even if someone did pursue it, we wouldn't get that high a level of work going into it and would be disappointed with the outcome.

As much as I love The Stand, I'm staying away from any Blu-ray upscales. Shame, though, that the filmmakers lacked the insight to NOT edit these programs on video. Odd that they would choose to film them but then cheapen out by post-producing on an inferior format. From what I understand, producing a film is a very painstaking process.
