On the Warner end of things I'm only going to assume that we'll be getting feardotcom before years end though I can't help but wonder if a new (collectors?) edition of Dr. Giggles won't yet show up this year as well. |

If they don't announce I Know What You Did Last Summer films for July, then my guess would be another year of waiting..... Last edited by SonnybytheSea; 03-10-2020 at 03:36 AM. |

TripleHBK I was wondering if you know who the rights holder is for House on Haunted Hill (1959)? Because I assumed that it was Warner Bros. since they bought up Allied Artists, but since SF was able to put it out on The Vincent Price Collection II in 2014, and we all know how difficult WB was about lending their catalogue films prior to 2018! How was all this possible?

House On Haunted Hill is public domain, but Warner possesses the best available film elements (an IP, which is what Shout said they used) from the Allied Artists/Lorimar catalog. Shout's BD in the Vincent Price Volume II set was licensed from them and was the first HD presentation available anywhere.

The box set features WB logos and small print specifying a 1987 copyright renewal, so House on Haunted Hill was definitely licensed through WB. As I recall, WB would actually license individual titles, on occasion, for inclusion in other companies' box sets, where appropriate.
See also: The theatrical cut of Nightbreed for the Limited Edition release and True Romance for Tarantino XX (both of which are no longer with WB as their own license with Morgan Creek has since expired). I think there was another example or two, but I don't recall which set(s). |

It's really nice that Scream Factory is releasing Thirteen Ghosts. I really enjoy that film. I never wanted to get the double feature BD since I already had the stand alone blu of House of Wax. I'll definitely be purchasing it and Tales from the Darkside day one.
Since Scream Factory has a deal with Warner, it would be excellent if they would release The Witches of Eastwick with a new transfer. |

Excellent batch of titles. Not familiar with Hills Run Red but will be blind buying it. Here's hoping that Deadly Friend, Alone In the Dark, He Knows You're Alone and The Hand make the schedule. All four of these would make my year.

Occasionally the studio will open the vault and release their own high quality version, or license it to third party. We've finally gotten Charade, the PD bob Hopes and House on Haunted Hill. MGM finally did an official Kansas City Confidential (DVD only so far) and Classic Flix BD's of PD United Artists noir come from official elements. High on everybody's want list is STRANGE LOVE OF MARTHA IVERS. Don't know if Paramount or Universal have the elements. Another is Roger Corman's THE TERROR. MGM has a OAR master that looks as good as any other 1960s AIP title but it's never been released. TCM uses this master when they show the movie and it looks great. THE BAT(1959) with Vincent Price has shown up on streaming in OAR and HD and looks to be from official elements. It was an Allied Artists release but don't know if WB is the source. |
