Scream Factory apparently confirmed on Facebook that the Universal Horror Collection: Volume 6 box set will be the last one in the series. They did not give any further explanations.

I'm taking it in stride. Six of these box sets is more than we really had a right to expect in the first place. Scream has given it a heck of a good run with some obscure gems.

I'm way behind I only have Volumes 1 and 2. Really need to grab the others. Looking forward to Vol 6 particularly for Shadow of the Cat, a rare Hammer film I haven't seen before.

Matthew Lillard is one the nicest celebrities that I've met. I went to a convention last year with a friend who wanted to get a picture with Lillard so I just waited in line with him. I liked Lillard but he wasn't high on my list of guests to meet at that con. We got in line first thing, because his line had been very long the previous day. We were in line before he showed up and as we were talking in line he comes up behind us taps us on the shoulder, shakes our hand and thanks us for waiting. He did that with every person who was waiting n the line. And he really spent quality time with people! He was really nice and talkative.

Some people are suggesting it's because of low sales of previous volumes. I highly doubt that. It was most likely dictated by more practical considerations - almost all of the remaining candidates will not have HD masters (only a few got DVD releases), and even then, we know from the Kino Insider that many of these unreleased-on-Blu 30s and 40s titles have elements issues. That seemingly made Kino hesitant to pick them up, and I imagine Shout similarly balked at the prospect. I have to think Kino would have at least picked up Secret of the Blue Room and The Mystery of Edwin Drood providing:

A) They were available for licencing
B) They had ready HD masters
C) If they didn't have HD masters, that suitable materials were available for the creation of HD masters, and that costs for this process were not prohibitive

I love hearing stories like this. Jordan Ladd (Cabin Fever) and Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp) are two that in my experience went above and beyond. Very appreciative for their fans.

This is really cool to hear. I was supposed to meet Lillard and the cast of Scream last year, but something happened and two people bailed. I got a refund but I shouldve went just to meet him. That really hurt, not getting to take that photo op with Neve, Matthew, Courtney and Skeet. I had my Stab shirt ready an' everything. I was going to see if Matthew would've helped me propose, as my girlfriend loves him. Sounds like he would've went along with it...

I agree. I met him at a NJ con a couple years ago. When I mentioned that I teach a film class, he said that if I wanted to screen Fat Kid Rules the World, he would Skype with my class. I never took him up on that offer, but it was certainly generous.

There was a mildly funny moment when I told him that I lived in CT and he asked if I was near UCONN. I said I was about 15 minutes away and that I go up there all the time. He narrowed his eyes and jokingly said something like, “why are you up there all the time?” I laughed and said there were some great places to eat.

I mainly talked with him about what it was like to work with Alexander Payne, but I can’t for the life of me remember what he said.

Sounds like a great guy. I've always liked Lillard, and have appreciated him more recently by seeing participate in all these cons and speaking about how much fun he had on films like this and Scream...etc.

Kind of reminds me when I went to the H40 convention 2 years ago, Lew Temple walked by and greeted everyone that was standing in line outside the building before it opened.

Reminds me a bit of meeting Don Coscarelli a couple years back at a screening of PHANTASM/signing for his auto-biography.

Everyone in attendance waited in line for a signature, and he stayed until everyone had been greeted/signed.

He was INCREDIBLY kind and conversational while signing, and had security/venue staff not been shuffling people along, he probably would have spent more time chatting. I got gently "ushered aside" after he slid the book back to me, but we were mid conversation and he looked genuinely disappointed that he had to stop there.

I'll put in this way. Despite being in my 30s at the time, I still wished he could adopt me as a second father.

DARKMAN is in serious need of a fresh remaster, and it's a 30 year anniversary.

Haven't met Matthew Lillard myself but a friend of mine did several years ago. He said everybody in line had Scream stuff to get signed. When it was his turn my friend unrolled a Hackers poster. He said Lillard's eyes lit up and he was like "Oh man, Hackers! You went old school, bro!" Said he was one of the nicest celebs he's ever met at a con, talking up and laughing with everybody.

I don’t often say this, but I really think these sets were overpriced. There is a reason many of these films were in budget-priced sets when they came out on DVD. I have a couple of volumes and really like them but I can understand people not wanting to shell out $60 for four b-grade, approximately hour-long features.

I just pre-ordered vol. 6 at the Target sale so I will have all of them. They are worth every penny...

I knew the '30s and '40s titles were wishful thinking but still had held out hope for Curucu, especially after seeing it air in Svengoolie. Maybe down the road!

Not Scott's best work but I enjoyed Berenger in it, Bracco is always awesome and Rogers is exquisite in it.
The interviews aren't much but I'm happy there was at least something as for extras. They mostly talk about what they did to help contribute to Ridley's take on a light noir-crime film.

Really wish his filmography would be completed, Region A side, with A Good Year. I know Disney has the Fox titles locked away in the vault, but man would I love for them to release some titles to other companies to see the light. Like I think Shout would be a fine place for A Good Year.

I was really hoping to also see The Spider Woman Strikes Back, to help complete Rondo Hatton on Blu-ray. Recently watched it on youtube for the first time. It was pretty good, but the picture quality was ferociously horrible.

Maybe you're right and Kino has some of these stragglers? Or, maybe down the line Scream will put together a volume seven, anyway?
