Actually, the revolutionary morphing effect first surfaced 2 years earlier, in 1989, in The Abyss. But these were super early - and expensive - effects that wouldn’t become more common until the mid 90’s. Like I said, I don’t recall seeing anything resembling CGI in Army of Darkness but maybe I’m just misremembering

Young Sherlock Holmes is the first with a human-ish character, but ILM had done CGI prior to that, most notably the Genesis sequence in Wrath of Khan.

Maybe we should distinguish between computer-generated as in looking like a computer game, and computer-generated as in life-like. Tron was the film that got a lot of attention for the former. I'd put the Genesis sequence in Wrath of Kahn in that category. The Abyss (1989) was the first film with morphing, which then became a cliche from overuse in subsequent films. The first film where I really noticed CGI as in life-like, that later enabled superhero films, was the launch sequence in Apollo 13 (1995).
The special effects in Army of Darkness (1992) looked like stop-motion animation to me. |

Not exactly Scream Factory related, more adjacent.
Rob Zombie's Halloween I & II Blu-ray from ViaVision Both films with Both Cuts. 4 Discs, All Region Pretty much all previous extras ported over. $35 Bucks https://diabolikdvd.com/product/rob-...gion-preorder/ Not the biggest fan of the RZ films, but for 35 bucks for both cuts of both films, I'm in. |

If SF was able to obtain rights to Jaws 3 and 4, will they likely announce them for release this year?

On the subject of Universal titles, I am expecting to see End of Days from SF, since the Kino Insider confirmed it was with a label, and it feels more like a SF title than an Arrow or VS one.
Other than that and the Jaws sequels, I don't see many pre-2010 titles left that Scream Factory or another label haven't already double-dipped on (so I'm not talking 4K upgrades of Universal titles already released by SF): Conan the Barbarian & Conan the Destroyer (there was a rumour Arrow had these) Cape Fear (1991) (this is apparently with someone; maybe Criterion?) The Bone Collector The Skeleton Key There are a few others but only these seem like realistic CE or even 4K UHD options. |

I didn't know they'd released The Skeleton Key. Fear is another one I'd like to see get the special edition treatment. Last edited by BarnDoor; 05-11-2023 at 05:22 PM. |

The ideal window to release them this year is coming to a close. June, July or August are the prime months to release shark themed movies. If Shout has them, it's possible they could be part of their August lineup. But if they don't announce them for August, I would think they'd hold them until summer 2024.

The Skeleton Key and The Bone Collector are both HIGHLY underrated films; I’d buy them in an instant. And Cape Fear on 4K would obviously be a day 1 purchase.
