All you can say about that last part of their message is that Shout Customer service certainly has a sense of humor. See below

I never actually posted them here because I was trying to do the right thing and let SF resolve the issue.

They have since responded in an unprofessional way since I posted a negative review of them so the Hell with them.

They refused to replace any of the discs (because I pushed back on providing evidence of affected playback) but did offer a refund if I sent the movies back.

Terrible experience overall.

It sucks because I've gotten a few scratched discs in the Shaw box sets that I've just dealt with.
Shout's "best" for ya, sad to say.

I ordered like 12 titles during the 4K sale in May, and none of them had scratches.

I ordered some more UHDs during their recent Select sale, and my copy of Streets Of Fire has scratches. I emailed them almost 2 weeks ago with no response.

I just don’t understand how these discs are getting scratched at the factory, and how the problem is almost exclusively a problem with Shout releases.

As a show of solidarity, I'm going to scratch some of my Shout discs. I'll dig around the closet to see if I have anything from 2015 or earlier. Later, if I have time, I'll play frisbee with them in the parking lot for added scratchness

Shout Warehouse read that and said to themselves "You're hired!".

Saw a interesting string of pages at Bullmoose last night. I think 2 of these are possibly from the studio themselves, and the others may not mean anything, but just posting it here anyway.

Around the same area I found random pages for:

JFK
Point Break
The Man in the Iron Mask
Last Man Standing (1996)

Oliver Stone has confirmed a 4K is coming (see 4K thread). He claims it's coming somewhere this year. I feel if that were the case,Warner would probably have announced it already (or very soon at least). Now if it were coming from SF in December, we likely wouldn't have heard about it yet. And there was also some connection between Shout Factory and Point Break, so I have to wonder if this would also come from them, or from WB? The other two could just be random pages that are there. SF did release The Man in the Iron Mask on Blu-ray, and this is the 25th anniversary of the film, but it doesn't seem like that popular of a title for them to upgrade to 4K.

The problem could be the burned-in picture of those lights on each disc! How did they did that?

Hey, does anyone know where you can find your old order history since they switched the site? All I have are a couple of the most recent orders and 10+ years of history, dozens of orders is nowhere to be found. Have they ever addressed that?

Well, yes, they addressed it, acknowledged it, and said they would be fixing it. This was about a week after the new site launch. The fix on that has been as effective as their eliminating the scratch problem.

As I noted previously, I was fortunate in that only 1 of my 4 discs had scratches and my disc wasn't in as rough of shape as yours was so playback didn't appear to be affected, but it's still disconcerting to be seeing these issues to this degree when I can honestly say that none of the other distributors I've bought from have had this issue. (I haven't bought a criterion disc in a quite some time so I can't comment on whether they are better/worse/the same as shout factory has been.
one of mine had the curved scratches as well, very strange like how does that even happen

A lot of the ones I see are curved scratches in the almost identical patterns, which leads me to believe it's being caused by some faulty machinery.

Do you think they are buying leftover or less than perfect discs that other labels didn't want? Trying to understand why it seems to happen more with one label over others...

To be fair, I have received some Shout discs that were not scratched: Streets of Fire, Motel Hell, Creepshow and WarGames being the most recent releases that miraculously arrived scratch free.

Scratches also seem to be more of a problem with their multi-disc releases: Team America, The Burning, Upgrade, People Under the Stairs, Exorcist III - all had scratches of some degree. I've had virtually no issues with the single disc releases. Maybe a different "team" is responsible for those.

But... I've read posts of other people getting scratched copies of the ones I had no problem with, and vice versa. So it really is a crap shoot.

Yes, it almost looks like the discs are spinning and rubbing against each other causing the scratches.

It's definitely the machinery. I used to own a DVD changer. The arm mechanism that grabs the discs (same concept as a jukebox) damaged a lot of my collection. I think that's part of the reason they stopped manufacturing them not long after they came out. I imagine some machine isn't calibrated properly down in that Mexico plant and it's pressing down too hard, although that doesn't explain the inconsistency and the fact it appears to only affect two labels.

I just stopped looking. I usually watch my Shout discs right away, so if there are any playback issues I'll check then. I accidentally checked the Assassin disc from the Shaw set and it did in fact have a scratch, but the disc worked flawlessly. Ignorance is bliss I suppose.

If the discs are scratched to all hell, but worked perfectly, then who cares? I've never had a disc that had an initial scratch that stopped working later, so that's not an issue either. The only discs that have stopped working over time are the ones that have bronzed.

With 4Ks, even the slightest scratch seems to cause playback issues. The players seem to be very, very sensitive.

I just had Creepshow and The Exorcist III arrive and all discs had some degree of scratches. The 4Ks, barely so (Exorcist III only has a couple of faint, small, shaved hair-looking scratches on the very outer edge of the disc). But they both lock up less than ten minutes into the movie… on two different players. The BDs are far more scratched yet play perfectly fine.
