Yes, they charge $20 a pop but people have been paying it. It's a business model that seems to be working for the company.

$20 a movie was not out of the norm for a very long time. Too many people are used to Black Friday $3.99 movies deals now.
I remember for years DVD releases were around $20-$30 a pop.

The first movie on VHS I ever bought cost me around $50, remember them being upwards of $75 or more.

I remember years ago buying Pumkinhead on VHS when it came out, I even had a discountfor working at a video store. It cost me $90.00... I love Blu-ray prices compared to what it use to be for VHS.

I remember... HBO, and a boatload of blank VHS tapes. Total cost... Free in the early days of cable.

Officially added my first Scream Factory title to my shelf this month:

I'm quite satisfied with this. Gonna pick up The Burning later this month too

There are only two Collectors Editions I don't have. (Proudly have all slips!) I bought them but they were used and slipless so I immediately sold them to someone else, OCD compelled me to get matching editions. I didn't even view them because the transaction happened so fast. I spent the money on some other things I wanted now I need a little help since I have the budget for just one at the moment, assuming I don't just buy something else

Cat People or Darkman? Which should I get first? They're the same price from 3rd party sellers and I honestly can't decide which to get. I don't wanna sound like a pirate with a steering wheel on his crotch, but...
Its driving me nuts!!

Rental pricing. That went away with DVD, but it was already on its way out thanks to Blockbuster, Hollywood Video, and the revenue-sharing deals that they struck with the studios.

I in my opinion would get Darkman, I think it is the better movie of the two. I just wasn't able to really get into Cat People as well, but that was years ago and my tastes have expanded in the horror genre. I will still buy Cat People to have the entire Scream Factory Blu-rays....

As a kid I remember always being so impatient with the fact that 95% of films released on VHS were only available as rentals first unless you wanted to pay an outrageous amount on release date. It would take a year or so of waiting to finally get an adjusted retail price on a VHS, unless you lucked out and could get a cheap used copy at a rental store.

Every time I would ask the clerk at the video rental store how much was "X" title if I wanted to purchase the tape he always came back with a crazy figure, like $105. Anyone who's into movies as much as we are probably did the same thing (ask the price, walk out with sticker shock ). I took home a fairly used copy of House By the Cemetery on VHS for about $40 one time and thought it was totally worth it. Most I ever paid was $79 for a Vidmark VHS copy of Midnight. Turns out I should've kept it because it looked better than the 2 DVDs I bought.

HALLOWEEN COLLECTION UPDATE:

This makes me think they've got Jamie Lee interviews because if she's doing commentarie(s) then we can probably assume Sean Clark talked her into doing some on-camera stuff too? Right? Hope so.

Quote:

Today, Anchor Bay reps passed along this photo that finds Jamie Lee Curtis with director Steve Miner for an all-new commentary track that will accompany Halloween: H20.

Bonus features continue to be added on a daily basis, and an announcement is forthcoming outlining all the great newly produced interviews, featurettes, behind-the-scenes footage and more that will be included in the 15-disc Deluxe Edition.

Sean Clark will moderate the commentary for the*H20 disc.

Slumber Party Massacre came a day early too, but everything else right on release day. Don't know why that happens once in a while, but I'm not complaining.

In 7th grade, I got a two-week advance in my allowance and bought an ex-rental copy of Terminator 2 for $29.95. This was 1992.

Well I guess we won't get the old commentary they did. But at least we get a new one.
