Love monsters best, especially drive-in type monsters like the AIP 1950s creatures (INVASION OF THE SAUCERMEN, NOT OF THIS EARTH, I WAS A TEENAGE FRANKENSTEIN), 1970s vampires (Hammer, Count Yorga, Blacula), etc. Love the Italian giallos too.

Gonna have to say slashers here. They aren't always the best (they rarely are...) but it's the genre where I can enjoy just about any crap they throw at me and smile.

I love them all so in order from most to least mine are:

Slasher
Monster
Serial Killer
Eurohorror/Giallo
Supernatural/Ghost
Torture (not porn just torture like the Saw films.)

I love Hellraiser and the Halloween films and I consider those a mix of slasher/monster/supernatural/torture, so I am a little confused I guess.

Without a Doubt Monsters. Give me a rubber suit/puppet and slime and I'm happy. Maybe it's the Jim Henson effect and having grown up on Sesame Street, The Muppets, Fraggle Rock, Labyrinth, etc etc but I absolutely love 80's Monster flicks with little rubber monsters.

I think Slashers without a doubt have a much better selection of "good" films to choose from, but I just get so excited whenever I discover a new Slimy foam rubber Monster movie. Demons, Goblins, ghouls.. I Love them all.

I like a bit of everything. The big four slasher franchises (NOES, F13, TCM, Halloween). Like some zombie fare (Slither, ROTLD, ReAnimator, Day of the Dead).
Frankenstein movies and werewolf movies are my favorites, though. This most likely explains my love of House of Frankenstein.

I can't really rank Other in a meaningful way as it encapsulates a number of subgenres that don't really fit the categories. Psychological Horror and Post-Apocalyptic Horror would probably rank near the top; Body Horror and Anthology Horror would be somewhere in the middle; Natural Horror and Asian Horror would rank near the bottom.

Generally speaking:

#1: Giallo/Euro
#2a: Monster (70's-80's)
#2b: Monster (classic)
#3: Ghost/supernatural (pre-00's)
#4: Slasher
#5. Serial killer

Nothing interesting to me about torture/torture porn.

Hardcore slashers all the way!

Madman - decapitations (2), impalings, face slashing, axes to the head, hanging
Mutilator - bodies in half(!), lawnmowers to the chest, devaginalization (ouch)

I also love atmospheric British horror films like Tower of Evil, The Flesh and Blood Show and The Lighthouse (1999)

Haunted house flicks are their own genre but there are very few really good ones. Can't wait for Legend of Hell House

I think I would rank them that way as well. While I appreciate the more Hitchcockian aspects of the first HOSTEL as well as the bent in MARTYRS, I cannot say I care for seeing people just being tortured to death.

It's bad enough to pay good money to see an alien burst out of John Hurt's chest, but when the focus IS on the pain and the suffering, I dunno... that treads into "needing a psychiatrist" territory.

Then again, who I am to talk? I'm a fan of Urotsukidoki, Kite and Angel Blade.

I'd probably rank them as this but I love just about everything horror. I can't place an Other category because there is so much that can fall under that.

You just have to see in my Home Theater Photos to get the idea of what I like.
But I don't mind Torture Porn,Supernatural/Ghost there just as good.

Creature Feature / Nature Attacks
Supernatural / Ghost
Monster
Slasher / Serial Killers

I like nearly all horror, but those four are my favorites (and in that order) not to say I don't like Slashers or Serial Killer movies, but if had to choose between Jaws and Halloween, Always Jaws

Definately Slasher for me. Lots of great memories fromthe late 80's - mid 90's walking through the isles of VHS and looking at all the killer artwork

I stopped updating it last August and the version that had been in the OP wasn't up to date.

It's been years since I saw Pumpkinhead but for me it was just the opposite. I felt the movie was more of a drama than a horror film. A man losing his son and dealing with it was the center of the story and the monster was just a way to visualize his feelings of vengeance and remorse. A great film in any case.

As for the Hellraisers, the third movie was so bad that I stopped watching the sequels after that. Turning cenobites into comedians throwing constant oneliners was the wrong way to go.

I like Hellraiser 3's vibe. It was the last Theatrically released Hellraiser film and imo, the American setting works to give an urban 90s edge to the story's more gothic elements. The acting was pretty good as well, particularly Kevin Bernhardt.

Plus, the CD Cenobite:

Yeah, psychological horror would be my first choice with supernatural/ghost. Many great horror classics begin with the thought that there's something supernatural going on and in the end it's revealed that the main character was imagining things or someone had been playing games with him/her. Do those count as supernatural/ghost still? And I also enjoy horror films that leave the strings for the viewer to pull together after the movie has ended.
