Well, one thing has been guaranteed. Shout Factory will not be doing Escape from New York.
But it will likely be getting a new transfer, possibly with all of the extras from the superb SE DVD, from MGM.

I look forward to the news if there is any about EFNY - I hope its just not another quick cash grab release

Considering the other movies MGM is rereleasing with 4k transfers (Fargo, Rocky, RoboCop), it is pretty much a given.

Fans of Justin Osbourn and fans of alternate, cool poster artwork in general may want to check this book out - ( http://www.amazon.com/Alternative-Mo...+movie+posters ). For it's price, $25, to me it's in incredible bargain as there is a treasure trove of 207 pages of fantastic artwork of mostly cult classics and a good portion of horror films. Not to mention the stories and inspirations behind the posters and their illustrators.

Justin has 3 of his posters featured and they're all incredible. The films he illustrated are "Hatchet" which I've actually seen before, Adam Green himself obviously loves it because it's hanging in the apartment set in his show "Holliston."

The other two posters are great versions of "Silent Night, Deadly Night" which if "Scream Factory" ever releases I hope they use it. The last one is for "Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon" which I've never seen, but if it had been released with Justin's artwork as it's official artwork on the home video releases I may have blind-bought it. It's very 80's retro-horror looking. I remember the official artwork for the film and I really never had any desire to see it, can anyone recommend it? Is it any good?

A lot of the illustrators in the book must be in the age range of 35-45 or so, some maybe younger. But I say this because when the illustrators give their influences/inspirations as far as films go, I've noticed one film comes up way more than any other film and that film is "Ghostbusters."

Behind the Mask is great. I watched half of it on Chiller a few months back and loved it. I think I have seen his art for it. Speaking of which, whatever happened to Before the Mask: The Return of Leslie Vernon?

Yeah you may have seen this artwork in the book it says Justin was contacted by the director Scott Glosserman to do a poster for the theatrical re-release. He also explains that his artwork was sold in a limited edition to help raise funds for a sequel. So, I guess there's your answer, they've obviously been trying to get the money together I guess, but nothing seems to be coming together. The book came out in October of last year just to give you a time frame for when this information was given.

EDIT - For those who don't know Justin features a lot of his work on his site here - http://slasherdesign.blogspot.com/

I like his "Terror Train" artwork better than the one used for the release from "Scream Factory" which was done by Nathan Thomas Milliner. Nothing against Nathan though he does some great designs as well.

I was checking out the blu-ray review for "Behind the Mask" if it was more like $5 I could see me blind-buying it, but damn no extras or even menu? Can't really justify buying it at this point.

Well, the movie is scary, creepy and atmospheric! Excellent monster effects and performance by Lance Henriksen. I love monster flicks and this is one of the best! I don't understand why so many people love slasher flicks. You don't understand why people love this movie.. Well,we're just different people. Thank god!

I switched the Slumber Party Massacre blu-ray to a double disc case and added the DVD disc that has the sequels.

I really wasn't going to bother with getting the blu-ray because I heard it wasn't really all that great and but I might do what you did. I got the trilogy, mainly because I love part two. When the blu-ray is the right price I guess.

Don't know where my head is at, I did this with "Escape From New York" and did a 3 disc set with the two special edition DVDs and the blu-ray. Anyway, thanks for the idea.

I'm with you. I like Slumber Party Massacre 2 / 3 better than the first.
Sleepaway Camp 2 and 3 more than the original as well.

I might go ahead and do that with my DVD set, but I'm hoping they just announce plans to release the other two soon. They know that the slashers are selling like hot cakes. Isn't that why they've sought out more, like The Final Terror? Whatever.

Slasher movies do seem to generate the most excitement, don't they? I think Shout themselves are big fans of the subgenre if their "super-exciting" announcement of The Final Terror was any indication. How about a poll? What is your favorite horror subgenre?

Slasher
Monster (Pumpkinhead)
Supernatural/Ghost
Serial Killer
Torture Porn
Eurohorror/Giallo

Fun question.

I think my taste is very much based on nostalgia, i.e. on what kind of horror I was exposed to first.

So my favorite sub-genre is probably the ghost movie. Some of the first horror movies I watched were Poltergeist and The Fog. They were probably even dubbed in German as I would have been watching them on German television. Back in the 1980's, you had the feeling that the national Danish broadcasting company would rather have been caught dead than show any horror movies.

On second place comes gothic horror, which really can be ghost movies, monster movies etc. Same as the above, I grew up watching a lot of the AIP Roger Corman productions and Italian gothic horror on the German stations we could receive. I only watched a couple of Hammer productions, so that's probably why I have never been particularly fond of them. I much prefer the Italians to the British.

Slashers are my third choice, because, well, what do you expect from someone who was a teen during the 80's?

But really, I like all horror. I can't think of any sub-genre I dislike or would choose not to watch based on the genre alone.

I'd vote for Slashers as my favorite sub-genre. I'd definitely say nostalgia plays a large part in making it my favorite sub-genre of horror.

I remember perusing the VHS aisles at rental stores in the 80's, looking at all the cover art, and some of the most memorable art, were from slasher films.

I really hope that Scream Factory releases Turistas (2006) someday.

This was such an underrated movie, and it's worth the price of admission for the scene where the characters are escaping through an underwater cave and having to survive by breathing in the tiny air bubbles on the roof of the cave.

Unlike most movies of the sort, the characters here, played by Josh Duhamel, Olivia Wilde, and Melissa George, are genuinely likeable, and they seem like the type of vacationers with whom I'd actually enjoy hanging out during a trip. I love how the villain had a sympathetic angle by way of the cause that he was representing, and it was a surprisingly multilayered approach.

John Stockwell is a pretty decent action/surf/horror/adventure director, and his style gives Turistas a lively groove.

Can I get a witness?

Monster should be split 3 ways: Modern (CGI), '80's (in camera/practical f/x), Classic (makeup).

I personally like the Eurohorror/Giallo films first then slashers.

I voted "Supernatural/Ghost", because that subgenre comes closest to encapsulating my favorite old horror films from Jacques Tourneur, Robert Wise, and the like. The old Val Lewton horror films, the Universal horror films, and such.

Horror works so much better in black-and-white, and those old movies were unsettling on so many levels without having to resort to heavy-handed visceral scenes.

Don't get me wrong. I like all of this Scream Factory fare, but the old black-and-white films are where it's at.

Watch Cat People (1942), I Walked with a Zombie, The Seventh Victim, The Haunting, The Uninvited, The Innocents, Night of the Demon/Curse of the Demon, and Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956).

Enjoyed slashers when I was younger, but not anymore. Except a few like Halloween and Prom Night. Definitely more into monster and animal attack movies. Also some supernatural/ghost movies.
