Come on, they're not that bad. Jaws 3 has Lea Thompson - Jaws 4, Mario Van Peebles terrible Bahamian accent.

Of the new releases for Scream, I'm interested only in Doctor & The Devils, Invaders from Mars, UHF (Shout!), Monkey Shines, Mad Max, Escape from NY and Phantom of the Opera.
But I'll wait for the extras as that's why I primarily buy Blus/DVDs for... UHF has a great DVD and it's not exactly a film begging for High Def treatment, so I'll wait and see what that is like on the extras. Ditto with Escape from NY. Mad Max could certainly use improved extras.

Oh, and the uncut Vault of Horror has meant that's a day 1 buy.

Jesus people, lay off with the whining about Mad Max and Escape From New York. Even looking past the fact that the existing Blus could have better transfers and that both didn't have all of their DVD extras ported up, you do realize that high-profile titles like these sell really well, right?

If you want Scream Factory (and their sister company, Shout) to continue releasing titles that are far more obscure....especially ones that never even made it to DVD...then they have to make some money elsewhere to pay for them. Releases like the Halloween set, Mad Max, EFNY, etc. help accomplish their financial requirements and allow them to take risks on rarer titles.

If you don't want to double-dip on them, fine. I completely understand that. Let's not act like this is some sort of insane decision on their part that makes no sense though. It's pretty easy to figure out why they are doing it, in addition to the fact that many of these are great films that deserve better editions anyway.

Now that my rant for some sanity in here is out of the way...

To the person asking off & on about pre-80s titles, SF tends to put those out in the winter. Given that we still have no titles on deck for December, I wouldn't be too surprised to see a few squeeze in there. They tend not to put big titles in that month. January-March are also prime real estate for those titles, so I'm sure we'll be a getting a few announced in the coming months.

On the Universal front, here's hoping they can get a deal finalized in the near future that can be utilized in 2015. Jaws 2 would be a wonderful addition, especially since Uni doesn't seem too interested in putting it out themselves. The same goes to a lesser degree with Jaws 3&4, which seem destined for a double-feature release if Scream Factory gets their hands on them and doesn't do a 3-film boxed set.

Kino seems to only be angling for MGM horror titles that fit their niche (Bava films in particular), so I wouldn't be too worried about them snaking horror stuff away from Scream Factory. Shout Factory are the ones that will be losing some stuff to them though, if their acquisition of Avenging Force is anything to go by. On the whole, they seem more interested in MGM's far older titles (westerns, noir, crime, etc.).

While MGM continues to remain a huge goldmine for them with years worth of potential releases waiting in the wings, I'm really interested to see what kind of fruit their recent dealings with Fox ultimately bare. Ditto for that oft-brought up Miramax and Anchor Bay stuff, be it a Shout release or a Scream one.

As for Sony? Well, until they stop cheaping out on letting Shout/Scream do extras, we are stuck with bargain bin licensing deals and expensive Twilight Time releases. I'd like to hope that they change their mind, but with it becoming clearer and clearer that they don't want to remain in the film industry for the long haul, I doubt that will happen. They really don't seem to care much about their back catalog at all anymore.

I'm glad that I put off buying both Escape from New York and Mad Max on Blu-ray. I grew up watching both movies, but I always had bigger fish to fry when it comes to filling in the gaps on my Blu-ray wishlist.

I'm not a huge packaging person, but I bet that the Scream Factory artwork for both of these titles is going to be a real trip.

In other thread-related news, I'm really having a blast going through The Vincent Price Collection right now. I postponed buying this, but decided to pull the trigger last week after seeing it on sale for $39 on Groupon.

I hope that Scream Factory hits some other 1960s/1970s horror titles in the future.

I agree with that they are trying to make the financial requirements, plus the titles they announced are a little more mainstream/household which is the comic con audience. I also agree with a previous comment that I read about them not announcing pre-80s / or not commonplace films that they could have such as From A Whisper to A Scream or Empire of the Ants due to possibly a mild reaction from the crowd. Comic con fans are probably less aware of those MGM Midnight titles like Count Yorga than they are with Mad Max or Monkey Shines..and of course the retro horror fans would also be more into stuff like Scarecrows. The 10 titles were made especially for that audience while older obscure titles (Hellhole for example)are more for Facebook or Twitter. That was my take on it anyway - more mainstream titles and ones that should sell well and make some $$ for SF Any guesses for Comic con 2015 ?? lol

Should hear some more announcements soon since they don't have anything planned for December, could be some more obscure titles.

Although, I'd almost like a month off from buying Scream titles since there's so much stuff coming out already.

Hopefully but looking at the past few years they don't release that much in December.

Why is that?

They have yet to have a month go by without a release. I can't see them starting now, especially during a holiday month.

I can certainly see it being a light month with only two or three releases though.

And also the first (and likely only ever) TV Terrors DVD set.

The December before that had two releases (Death Valley & The Island).

Who owns The Gate 2? Watched the first half tonight. Way better than the first. Not nearly as boring, and with a three-dimensional protagonist to boot.

If I recall correctly, Lord of Illusions, Hellhole and Dog Soldiers are all slated for December or 2015.

I'd be surprised if they don't try to squeeze New Year's Evil in for mid-late December, in time for the New Year, despite what they said about the remaining Comic-Con titles landing in 2015..

Dog Soldiers is definitely 2015. Hellhole? Nobody knows about that one.

I wouldn't hold my breath on Dog Soldiers; nothing is definitive when rights issues are involved. All Scream Factory said is "there is a strong possibility of it moving to early 2015," but we'll see.
