I have a soft spot for High Spirits, so this is great news to me!

Since it appears we may actually get 31 films announced this month, I've just been editing this post as each announcement comes in.

I'll request an OP update when October's over.

It was always going to be the case that the line would have to expand and release many 'lesser' titles to keep going. Scream seemingly no longer have a deal with Universal (at least for now) and the only substantial catalogue they can realistically mine is that of MGM, but there are 2 problems in that A) They've already released the majority of MGM's heavy hitters from the 70s onwards; and B) Other companies like TT, Kino and possibly now Arrow can rival them in this department.

I'm not saying there aren't plenty more good MGM titles for them to release - there are many of course, as the list above shows - and I imagine Scream are saving a number of MGM acquisitions, perhaps those more strictly 'horror' in nature and of bigger repute, for later in the month. But certainly, unless they can acquire surprise titles which aren't tied up with the major companies (like Class of 84), or even agree a new deal with said companies, the number of well-known collector's edition calibre titles released by Scream will inevitably diminish. We all want the likes of The Hitcher to be released, but people have to understand that many films just aren't available to Scream unless something radical happens.

I think you kind of answered your own question They are expecting them to just get major titles owned by Lionsgate , Universal , Sony and Warner. It just doesn't work like that. All of their releases seem to be with MGM still so that must be the only studio they have a deal with. They cant announce the major titles like the Fog, Motel Hell or Pumpkinhead because they did it already.

None of these titles move the needle for me at all. Maybe Ghoulies, but even that's a stretch.

I know the word is they don't have anything more with Universal, but honestly, I still wish they'd given us Psycho IV when they had the chance. I wished they'd given us a double feature of Psycho IV and Bates Motel. I'd still love that. If they could work something up with Universal again, a Psycho box set with all 4 movies would be great, but I don't see that happening.

If they can pry stuff loose from MGM, a double feature of Poltergeist II-III would be welcome.

Sometimes Screams message is inconsistent. If they can't get a movie, that's one thing, but they've made statements in the past about not wanting to release "inferior sequels," and would prefer to focus on other movies that are higher quality instead. Yet, they've released sequels that are inferior to stuff like Psycho IV like Scanners 2-3. And, some of their standalone titles have been pretty mediocre as well. Bottom line: even if Scream considers some sequels to be mediocre, they still move the needle in the horror genre more than some of the titles they are releasing. I love scream, but sometimes they focus more on what they want to release vs. what the fanbase would want to see, and they end up with bad selling titles like Incredible Melting Man and a few others.

They also say they don't want to do tv movies like Psycho IV, but then release other tv movie collections.

There have been quite a few releases over the last 2 years, that I wouldn't buy out of a $7.99 bargain bin, let alone pay $16.99 for...but, there are a few sequels that aren't that great, but the completist in me would pay $16.99 for a double feature even though the film doesn't warrant it. Just food for thought.

Class of 1984 quickens my pulse quite a bit. I'll definitely be purchasing it.

I'm also intrigued (but not yet committed) to From a Whisper to a Scream (The Offspring).

Does anybody here own Q: The Winged Serpent?

I just ordered this Blu-ray for $7.94 from a third party Amazon dealer after being on the fence for months.

I enjoyed this movie when I was a kid, but I'm curious to see how it holds up today. My batting average for buying Scream Factory titles based on 1980s nostalgia is pretty good so far, so I think that I'll be happy.

If you like watching Nic Cage overact in an awesome way, give Vampire's Kiss a watch. One of his most over the top performanes alone with Deadfall.

As much as I understand the need for them to expand and release other titles it's also a little disappointing. The one thing I loved about SF was that it felt like every release was a labour of love for them but that feeling has long gone and has now been replaced with "what titles can we and how quickly can we release them".

I'm happy with From a Whisper to a Scream, the Ghoulies double feature, and the Blacula double feature. The rest have been rather mediocre, especially Supernova.

The good news is though, if they are digging this low into the barrel, hopefully there's now a chance for Howling 2, Return of Count Yorga, and other great flicks that they had no interest in releasing before.

Seriously, Scream, when will you be getting to the good stuff? Except for Blacula, not a single title falls solidly into good ol' retro horror.

There's a few things they've announced this month that I do want to check out, but I feel that Scream should go the quality over quantity route instead of churning out everything.

I'm thinking about ordering the Collector's Edition of Dolls so I don't have to wait until November 11th for it...
My Ginger Snaps order was a bit memorable. Since it was a long-term pre-order, I'd completely put it out of my mind and didn't realize when it had finally been sent. So, naturally, when a big envelope came in the mail that had a media-case bulge in it, I tore it open...

...and ripped my collectible, limited edition poster in half.

On the bright side, I contacted Shout and tried to buy a replacement poster, but was told they can't sell them (by themselves; I could've ordered a second blu-ray, of course). However, they had set aside a few for such emergencies, and sent me a replacement. No hassle at all. Nice folks.

Also, since then I've not received anything in an envelope. In fact, --and someone will need to correct me on this if I'm remembering wrong--, I seem to recall that every order since has had the poster come separately in a cardboard mailer. I can definitely say the discs weren't in the cardboard with the posters, but they may have (probably) been shipped together in a larger package. (I tend to hold off and do multi-disc purchases to save on shipping.)

Of course good stuff is subjective - there's even an audience for Troll 2 and Raiders of the Living Dead. I had forgotten about From a Whisper to a Scream, a film which I want to like, but have never finished in one sitting.

The comments that really got me were the ones complaining about these not being combo packs. Yes, apparently people are still pining for DVDs in 2014.
