Terrorvision is a fun lark but nowhere near the same quality....
Well, yeah, if you are comparing it to Mortuary and The Mangler.

Looking forward to Food of the Gods, Empire of the Ants & Tentacles. Still waiting for Monster That Challenged The World, It! The Terror From Beyond Space & The Power.

Still holding out hope, that someone/anyone, can dig up a good copy of Monster of Piedras Blancas.

Is it just me, or does anyone else feel like Scream Factory and their Double Features just-for-the-sake-of-having-them-be-double-features initiative (mixed with a large volume of mostly underwhelming titles announced lately) has caused chit-chat about them to slow down on nearly every forum? Just throwing out an observation.

Makes sense, but I would have preferred if they were a bit more sensible in their pairings.
Food and Empire should be together.
High Spirits should be with another haunting comedy.

I think the double feature initiative is a direct effect of the mostly underwhelming titles announced. The Scream Factory guys knew that many of these titles are not particularly sought after, so they figured that the movies might sell each other better in pairs, I imagine. Scream Factory did start very strong with some big classic horror movie titles (like The Fog, The Howling, and Halloween II) as well as cult favourite and semi-obscure retro horror flicks (like The Burning, The Town That Dreaded Sundown, and The Incredible Melting Man). The former category may be all but mined out, but there are many popular titles in the second category that have yet to see a Blu-ray release, but for some reason, SF doesn't tap as much into that particular vein with their future line-up as they have the previous years. Whether it's a matter of rights, unavailable elements, or them thinking this new direction will be financially beneficial, I don't see myself buying as many SF releases in the future as I have in the past.

Indeed... 2015 looks like this for me.

-Candyman 2
-Phantom of the Opera
-Ghoulies/Ghoulies 2

...and that's it for new releases. There are still a handful of titles already released I'll likely pick up, but Scream hasn't exactly been setting the world on fire with the last few months of announcements.

I think it makes sense from a marketing standpoint. I can tell you I had very little interest in BAD DREAMS but I wanted VISITING HOURS so I bought the combo.

I will also buy LOVE AT FIRST BITE when it comes out paired with the Jim Carrey vampire flick (already forgot the title as I again have no interest) because I want that title...

Scream Factory buzz has not just slowed, it has practically ground to a halt. To be fair, they probably need a break. I'm sure they have some good titles in the pipeline but I have to agree that they haven't announced anything mindblowing in a while. There's a clear pattern of them mostly grabbing more-mainstream studio stuff - to them, titles likely considered "safe bets" as opposed to riskier fare like The Final Terror. It's too bad Lionsgate doesn't license as they have a large chunk of the films many fans would like to see more of. And I don't think Shout has taken full advantage of their relationship with MGM as that studio still has a sizable amount of titles that could use a BD upgrade (or even a first-time home video release). I'd love to see THE CURSE films on BD, as well as Miracle Mile, Ghost Town, Alien Predator, Monster Dog, The Astral Factor and many others.

In relation to Scream Factory, 2015 looks like this for me:

Absolutely nothing.

I have zero interest in the most recent round of releases. Unless Scream Factory picks up some worthwhile films for release in the coming year, they will lose me as a returning customer.

well quite frankly Hooper isn't really much of a director. What's so great about his resume?

Texas Chainsaw is an excellent film. Poltergeist he only partially directed (clearly Spielberg did a lot of it)... and then what?

The Funhouse is a well directed film and it's at the top of his list as far as I'm concerned.....

This is a 10/10 classic for me.

Don't mind Hooper myself. I also am looking forward to a good few of screams newer announcements.

oops!! I forgot he directed that!!! I completely agree... that's his best film of all and my favorite TV movie of all time so shame on me!!

Bottom line though, even with this he's only made 3-4 really good films during an entire career....

Just seeing this now, not a release I am going to get in a hurry now. I will wait for a decent price drop before buying.

I still haven't received Lord of Illusions or Tales/Vault. I pre-ordered them months ago. Should I be concerned?

You are right on the # of classics, 4 for me (which is quite good imo) there are also a handful of his films i really enjoy too. As for Salem's Lot id love that on blu ray with features, i grew up on it and when Barlows rises up in that cell that was one of the biggest scares of my youth, love it.

The only Scream Factory releases I'm looking forward to are the Escape From New York and Mad Max collectors editions and Invaders From Mars. Hopefully the release dates are announced soon.

This thread's activity seems to peak when big announcements are made or anticipated and we've hit a bit of a lull in the announcing schedule. It's been a month and a half since the October announcements came to an abrupt and unexpected stop. Contemporary releases don't typically generate much discussion, and three of the last four announcements have been contemporary films (Animal, Dark Haul and Takashi Miike's Over Your Dead Body), with the remaining announcement being the relatively obscure Exterminators of the Year 3000 / Cruel Jaws. Scream Factory has two as-yet-unannounced Collector's Edition titles slated for next summer and some "retro surprises," but we have no timeframe for when to anticipate those announcements.

That being said, we may see further slowing or irregularity in the announcing schedule. The landscape for genre distribution is very different now, than it was when the label was launched. There are now many active 3rd-party distributors working within the same marketplace and going after the same titles. Many of the truly big titles have been released or announced. Now that MGM is licensing films to Kino, Twilight Time and Olive Films, there's not going to be a lot left in their vaults to pick from. I'm not sure Fox has a lot left, either. Scream Factory seems pretty down on their chances of licensing from Universal in the near future. There doesn't seen to be an impending change in the respective philosophies of Warner Brothers, Paramount, Sony or Lionsgate. It's going to be tough for Scream Factory to keep up their 2013 and 2014 release paces, without changing things up a bit.

Announcing constant hits is a tough call for any company. I don't see cause for worry.

what surprises me most right now is that Lionsgate hasn't created their own Genre sub-label similar to Scream Factory just to put out all their old horror acquisitions, or at the very least started licensing them out. we're certainly at a point in the Blu Ray life cycle where it would make sense. I just watched Strangeland on Digital HD the other night and had to go see who owned the distribution rights as I'd gladly pick up a Blu Ray of the film... I wasn't surprised to see that Lionsgate has it. That, with all of their other franchises/titles people have been asking for are such easy sells that it simply defies logic why they don't get off their ass and release something.

I'm not sure Lionsgate understands their potential consumer pool. Has there been a changing of the guard over the past couple years? After 2009, when the last wave of horror Blu's were pressed, there's been nothing. They haven't even continued pressing their existing discs. Presumably, they don't think there's enough of a market to warrant it?
