I might be stating the obvious here, but Millennium released Dracula, Prince of darkness, and Frankenstein Created Woman on blu ray a year or so ago. The DVD transfer of the Golden Vampires was marginal at best, not sure what could be done with the existing film elements there. Its my understanding that Warner Bros allegedly has plans to release the Hammer titles on blu ray that it has the rights to, sometime in the foreseeable future

Just my opinion, but if Shout is going to pursue more pre-1970 titles they should come up with a separate sublabel. "Scream Factory" just feels more suited to contemporary fare. "Scream Classics", perhaps?

Now that's an excellent idea!

Its a little late in the ballgame for that having released the Neanderthal Man, Die Monster Die and two Vincent Price sets among others

Id love Quatermass II for one thing. Who knows. SF needs more than MGM titles as avenues I would think

Damn skippy, son. Especially with Kino sneaking away the leftover titles.

Just how many brands should one company be expected to create?

A label for different eras?

Why waste money on pointless branding? The big studios don't squander their substantial resources on such nonsense. We don't need Shout Factory blowing more money on re-branding when they can spend the money producing Blu-rays.

More brands and lables are irrelevant trifles like slipcovers and complaints about artwork. People need to concern themselves with good transfers of the movies we want to see...not ANOTHER fancy name to print on a the spine of a disc case.

They could bust them up the way they did the Vicent Price sets with a great film mix with an average Hammer release and it would still sell.

Just 2 cents that would make Shout Factory some big dollars and if they can finagle the studio's to bring together the Halloween series they surely could obtain the U.S. rights to these wonderful Hammer films.
From what I remember reading, Dracula POD and Frankenstein Created Women were very poor sellers when they were released at something close to the scream factory price in this country. They're also two of the better-known of the whole Hammer cycle, apart from the original Frankenstein/Dracula and some others which have gotten a fair amount of attention over the years like Curse of the Werewolf. It is weird to me that the Vincent Price sets would sell pretty well when Hammer has sunk like a rock in this country, but that seems to be the case. The rights also really are a mess, there are 60+ Hammer horror/suspense movies from Quatermass 1 through To the Devil...A Daughter and in this country it seems like no studio has the rights to more than about 15 of them. A ton of them were put out by Anchor Bay and haven't been in print for years; then StudioCanal has that very nice set of DVDs in the UK and many of the better movies from it have been put out on Bluray in the UK/Australia, but they're mostly of a specific vintage (it's from about 1965 to 1975, and missing a bunch of random movies, some of them important).

There are a ton of Sony Hammer flicks which have very nice HD versions out there. I'd love a bluray of The Gorgon, for example, but it doesn't seem like anyone's interested. The rights must be more expensive than the returns would be expected to be, or something. I'd love to see Synapse do more of them, but I think that the MGM ones have pretty much all been released on bluray in this country. The only ones that ever came out on the Midnite Movies label (IIRC) were Vampire Lovers and Countess Dracula, and I believe that Vampire Circus/Twins of Evil/Hands of the Ripper were somehow part of the same package, but that that was it. If Sony would just put their "Icons" sets on bluray and Warner would put their DVD sets on bluray that would knock off a lot of the really major movies, but there are still a ton of their best movies that are in OOP limbo in this country (ex Dr Jekyll Sister Hyde, Blood from the Mummy's Tomb, The Devil Rides Out, Plague of the Zombies, Quatermass and the Pit, etc).

It is odd that Shout did that bluray of The Vampire Lovers and left it at that. I have no idea what the sales figures on it were, but it's definitely one of my favorites things they've ever released, and it's not a collector's edition or anything. It was long enough ago that it seems like it must have been a one-off.

Gimme a break...

Obviously you know nothing about marketing, it's not re-branding, its called adding a new imprint.

And it wouldn't break the bank at Scream Factory nor would it effect the quality of their releases to add a new imprint.

There is absolutely no reason to separate older horror films from Scream's other releases. The very idea of it baffles me.

I think Kino may have the rights to all of the Quatermass films. I know they just released the first one, though obviously that doesn't mean they necessarily have the rights to all of them, just a hunch.

Here we go again with this guy. It was just an idea. You may think it's stupid but, you know what, keep those opinions to yourself because nobody cares what you think. Sheesh.

Can they possibly have gotten the rights for When Dinosaurs Ruled The Earth? It seems Warner has no desire to release it on blu.

Anyone know who may have Blood on Satan's Claw?

As far as I know, Warner still has the rights to it. I don't believe Shout Factory has ever done a Warner release, but Twilight Time has at the end of 2014. There might be a better chance of TT licensing the film, but I have no idea.
