If Scream is doing upgrades of prior dvd releases, I'll take the following:

Grotesque
Arena
Eliminators
Deathstalker 1 & 2

It's about on par with Ghoulies Go to College, minus the entertainment value.

Their decisions on what to release are just bizarre, though I'm sure a lot of it has to do with what's left with MGM. They scoff at the likes of Prom Night II and horror television movies (and, at one point, Howling II), yet friggin' Nomads gets a release. They say a deal with Sony is off the table because Sony would give them films but won't allow them to produce extras, yet they have no problem releasing basically barebones MGM double features. Try and grab some of the stuff from their vault to put out; if Mill Creek can do it, anyone can. Go after some Miramax stuff, they've already stated that nabbing the Halloween flicks was about as easy as just asking Miramax.

I'm all for releasing niche films, but man, they're gonna take a bath with that kind of stuff.

As far as these new releases go, I've only seen one (Cellar Dweller) and have only heard of about half of them.

I'm really surprised that SF hasn't announced MGM titles like Bubba Ho Tep, Troll, or Species II yet. More Universal announcements would be nice too.

SF really needs to go hard at WB, Lionsgate, Paramount, etc and see if they can do business. The current SF well seems to be running dry, especially with other studios like Kino stepping up their game.

I was literally looking up VHS and, *ahem*, "archival" versions of this on ebay last night, so I am extremely excited about this release. It was a constant rental for me as a kid.

I'm inclined to agree. In the competition for my hard-earned dollar, Scream is just falling more and more behind. The only thing I'm picking up so far this year is The Babadook. I already picked up the Blacula double feature. I have to refocus my budget on higher priorities going into the summer, especially on Arrow USA titles. As it is, I'm having to adjust everything beforehand so I can fit them in.

I love Scream Factory, don't get me wrong. There was a time when I breathed their gospel. But they are scratching the bottom of the barrel and while I appreciate what's being released (a few "gems" in the strangest sense), I just don't have the focus for them like I used to because other, more important and better quality releases are happening (VS, Arrow, Kino) and I'd rather buy or support those. It's just a battle of the budget.

This is exactly where I'm at, too. I've picked up every Scream release, but I think I'm finaly jumping ship.

Scream is starting to release stuff that's for the "die hard true horror fans" at this time. Not the A grade titles but the B (and C) grade titles...

and that doesn't bother me at all-- many of these flicks I saw on HBO or cable years and years ago and haven't seen them in decades...

I will enjoy revisiting these movies and I'm glad Scream is releasing them

I'll take Jack's Back, The Outing/The Godsend, and Cellar Dweller/Catacombs. These are some great announcements today!

I don't think anyone is not happy that they're being released, however when so many other big name titles that are far more worthy of release, and far more popular still don't have releases, it makes these Scream Factory releases that much less appealing. This is even more evident when you have Synapse releasing some pretty great stuff who by all accounts is a smaller operation with less money to spend.

maybe yes maybe no, my point is most hardcore horror fans enjoy all aspects.. the great, the good, the guilty pleasure, the "it's okay", the obscure, etc

Nomads is no favorite of mine, but it's different and interesting. It has a good mood to it and it's creepy at times...

oh I agree with that but it seems like KINO other studios are upping the ante right now so I'm just happy that I'm getting a variety of genre flicks from the current mix of companies...

Scream is releasing what they can apparantly based on what they have negotiated.... it's not obviously the bigger titles that they were offering a year or so ago....

Lionsgate wants TOO MUCH money to sublicense and Warner simply does not do it. And if anyone says *well they did Nightbreed* .. that was a special case and a favor to Clive Barker.
Sad but true

The new announcements are kind of on the mediocre side, but I am truly excited about The Outing in HD. But couldn't they pair it up with another slasher?

Sony has a fair amount of interesting B titles which I'm certain many fans would happily accept as barebones releases, as long as there are decent HD masters available (or can be made available). The positives (Sony does good to great work on transfers) outweigh the negatives (no extras) IMO. I'd be thrilled to get titles like 976-Evil, Candyman, Piranha II, The Seventh Sign, The New Kids, Nightwing, Just One of the Guys, and even Scream Factory editions of previously-released titles like Happy Birthday to Me and When A Stranger Calls. Like dissention mentioned above, many Scream Factory releases are indeed barebones, so that's not something that's unthinkable. Extras are something you'll watch just once, anyway - unless it's something comprehensive or really fun.

As for Miramax, well, if they're willing to license, I'm sure Scream Factory can find something to pick up. There are several franchises worth considering (Hellraiser, Children of the Corn, Prophecy) that can be fun if they're definitive. I, for one, am happy with the latest announcements but I do acknowledge that the well is indeed running dry. Running on fumes, actually, which makes it time to consider other libraries.

The only titles that I'm interested in from Scream Factory this year are Escape from New York, and I, Madman. I see that as my last hurrah with Scream Factory, as a customer. There are too many other distributors releasing the kind of films I'd like to own.

I asked them on Twitter and they said they had more Collectors Editions planned. So it appears they have at least some well-known titles. Which studio are they coming from? Who knows.

They also have more Italian stuff planned.
