It's more akin to a softcore teen-sex flick than a sci-fi film, pretty sleazy use of teens as most of Clark's films are, although I heard the DVD version is cut from the original Cinemax airing. Complete sleazy garbage. I hope all the actors were over 18.
Yeah, that does sound terrible. I only like the FUN sleazy 90s movies like Dinosaur Island or something. Kids is one of the most disgusting viewing experiences I've ever had, it seemed to be Larry Clark getting off on hot early teenage sex while masquerading as a serious "issues" movie. The idea of what he'd do with a bonafide sexploitation movie is scary to think about.

Bad Moon (1996) @ Warner Bros. = Not likely to happen.

Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight (1995) It could happen.

Fright Night Part 2 (1988) @ Lionsgate , you will likely to see the first film released for a third time by Twilight Time, before the lion actually opens its gate!

The Rebel Highway series was a a lot of fun. Having those directors put their own spin on old AIP flicks was pretty entertaining. They weren't all great, but definitely worth a look.

Robert Rodriguez's Roadracers was by far the highlight of the series. John Milius' Motorcycle Gang and William Friedkin's Jailbreakers stick out as well. It's been a while since I've seen them, but I had to grab Roadracers when it came out on DVD a couple of years ago.

Late to the party but my Universal wishlist:

Sssssss
Shocker
The People under the Stairs
Village of the Damned (1995)
The 'burbs
Death Becomes Her

And I can cross The Sentinel off the list since that one's coming already

If SF did lock down a new deal with Universal, they could do CE's of Child's Play 2, 3, and Bride.

Or even some newer films that haven't been available on blu ray here:
Dead Silence
Cry Wolf

I just finished watching Sleepaway Camp. It's an awesome movie. I really enjoyed the film. If you haven't seen it, I recommend you watch it.

I actually just watched Larry Clark's Bully the other night on Showtime. I hadn't seen it since the early 2000's so I forgot how disturbing it was. It was based on an actual case that happened in the Hollywood, Florida area back in the early 90's. I'm not sure how much of the movie was embellished, but there were lot's of young people nude and or having sex. That does seem to be a theme in Clark's movies.

Two newer Universal films not on blu ray that I would like to see in the Scream Factory line.

Be grateful you haven't seen KEN PARK which is basically full-on pornography with questionably-aged actors. I think that one still has never been released in the U.S. because distributors were afraid to do so for legal reasons. I agree that Clark is basically a pervert masquerading as a "serious" filmmaker.

The High Def Digest review of Mad Max is yet another message to Shout Factory that they need a new encoding machine or better technicians. I hope they listen this time, and I hope people don't blindly support Shout and pretend it's not an issue.

Anybody know who holds the rights for Quatermass and the Pit? A scream blu would earn my undying appreciation.

At least it doesn't sound as egregious as some of their past releases. I will say that I wish reviewers would capture each of these instances and how long they last and then present them along side the alternative Blu Ray releases to 1) demonstrate that it is in fact a problem exclusive to Shouts Blu Ray, and 2) To actually show readers what they're seeing so that we can see these problems ourselves. I have no doubt that they are there, but when a handful of "blink and you'll miss it" encode problems completely overwhelm a film discussion (as they have in the past) it'd be nice to see them fully illustrated and to know just how long they exist in the material. The loudest folks on this issue seem to have projection set-ups and are often looking for these faults, where as for the vast majority they go unnoticed.

It's apparent that Shout/Scream needs to work on how they encode their files, however I think it's also a load of crap that every time a new Scream Factory release comes out the threads devolve into discussions about encoding and "how bad the image is". The naysayers can't wait it seems to come running just to knock what may otherwise be a respectable release.

For all the talking/*****ing about Steelbooks, Slip covers, and packaging that seems to annoy so many, I find the never ending nit-picking of Screams Encodes far more annoying. If the problems are so prevalent that a release is effectively ruined, as many on these forums would have you believe, than one would expect that it would be blatantly obvious to everyone with a unanimous decree that XXXX title is a travesty, yet time and time again it seems that while there is a very clear vocal minority panning a particular release, the vast majority find it enjoyable and fail to see the problems as the travesty's so many of them claim to be.

So in the case of Mad Max, based on that one review it sounds like you can get the original release from a few years ago without the Blink and you'll miss it encode issues, or you can have a much more complete package in terms of features and presentation with some slight (but apparently significant to some) encode issues. It's unfortunate that these type of things keep happening, but there are far worse scenarios than what has been described in that review. (Color timing issues, Aspect Ratio problems, Audio problems, DNR, EE, etc) So let's try to keep things in perspective.

This is probably the best post I've seen on the subject. I'll just add that I don't notice the issues. Are they there? Most likely. But since I don't see them, they don't bother me. And honestly, I prefer it that way. I do feel bad for the people that notice them and feel it hurts the presentation but I'm glad it's them and not me (I'm anal enough as it is). I wish the issues would be fixed so that everyone could enjoy the releases but I'm quite happy with them as it is.
