For the majority of people who do buy titles from other countries, myself being in the USA, yes the US is a waste of time more often than not. Why wait arduously when a title can be already bought from multiple other countries?
Especially if you're fully multi-region capable, being locked to the country you live in for releases doesn't even matter anymore.

Do you only want USA versions for every single movie in your collection? That's extremely limiting. The Japanese release is literally the best on the entire planet at the moment and you can buy it for quite cheap too.

Both my players are Sony's. Neither will let me change anything for region playing same with the PS3 and PS4. Thanks for the headfs up on Panisonic tho. Copy I have is up for trade to any in the US if interested.

As much as I'm sure we wish this was true, it's not sadly, as Cliff himself came out and said the region B locked Return of the Living Dead blu ray is so defintive an edition that it wasn't worth their licensing it for the US.

The release of NOTLD I linked is cheap, region A compatible, and the best release of the film. US studios don't seem interested in releasing it, likely due to its public domain status.

Yes but the vast, vast majority of people are not you. They are not multi-region capable, for a multitude of legit reasons (cost, player availability, demand, etc). So a region B locked disc really should have no bearing on whether a region A release is considered.

Now, a region free UK release that has been heavily imported for years and never came out here, like say the Police Academy set? I am sure that is a reason Warner hasn't bothered to release it here. This is rare though.

Got my copy of Pumpkinhead today from Sears! (Ghoulies Double feature ships next week) It came with probably the mintiest slipcover I've ever purchased. Very happy with the purchase. Did anyone ever put together a custom cover with this art, or better yet, could they use this example and the info from the Scream release to make a BD sized Cover that looks like this?

I just don't get the cost argument, it costs as much to buy a panasonic player as it does to buy like, 5 scream factory discs. Just stop buying them for a week or two and problem solved. About the only things you won't be able to play are the odd 1080i/50hz things (ex some Australian discs like Razorback or the Hammer collection), and you're not buying a hacked piece of hardware if you have some moral stance against that.

Not that guy but I just use my self-built computer which has an ASUS Blu-ray disc burner and AnyDVD HD for software to remove all region coding. Then ArcSoft Total Media Theatre 6 to watch Blu-rays on my calibrated ASUS IPS 23" monitor. Fully multi-region capable and I don't see the need for myself to buy a multi-region player until I have a properly dedicated home theater.
But eventually I'm going to build another computer. After that going to buy a 7.2 4K receiver along with spiffy speakers since I'm stuck with USB over the ear 7.1 headphones right now. Course I always choose the original cinematic audio whenever possible. Still going to use my graphics card HDMI output as source to the receiver.

Not even going to make a wishlist for Scream titles though.

I do the same. I have a region-free player, but usually I just rip a copy and remove region coding and re-burn the disc for now... until I just rip everything I own and go all digital. There's freeware out there that removes region coding.

I think what's funny is I bet I've spent more money on buying Blu-rays from overseas and even the ones here in the USA so often I still haven't even bought the case, nor the motherboard or modular power supply yet for my next computer. I'm none too bothered since I can watch anything I want to buy released from anywhere on the planet I own or want to own on my current computer.
Course I already stated takes me longer to decide which I want to buy or just pick and choose. I gotta work on buying more imports especially since the majority of those are tons of Upgrades.

Anyway, more Boxsets, introduce Booklets and no Steelbooks for Scream. To keep on thread topic instead of derailing.

No one is saying that at all, merely suggesting a way to play region locked titles. If you don't want to do this fair enough.

If I really cared enough about a good number of locked releases I might do that, but I don't yet. Everyone will have their threshold. Still the fact remains it's a $150 or so for a good one, plus you have to buy multi-region players forever and worry about their availability, plus 4k players are coming out in a year anyway.

Most people aren't going to bother. Whether you get that or not is kind of irrelevant, the core point is most don't, hence a locked region B release shouldn't really matter when it comes to what Scream want to license. A region free and commonly imported disc however makes sense to consider.

I wonder what Shout licensed from Universal on that front, since weve speculated the horror titles that could happen from Scream. I wonder if Shout has any titles of interest coming, something like Midnight Run .. Id love Universals older Film Noir titles on blu ray personally speaking

Having a multiregion player isn't just for the purpose of obtaining titles that aren't released domestically. Every country has some releases that are rubbish, where superior versions are available elsewhere, therefore IMO it's foolish to restrict yourself to purchasing from just one country, and simply accepting whatever you are given, and gladly handing your money over for the "privilege". You are cheating no one else but yourself. To be honest, quite a number seem to be against it for silly patriotic reasons from what I have gathered, and take the whole supporting local and loyalty thing a bit too seriously.

That's the deal killer for me.

I need to know that, when my player breaks, I can go to the mall and a get a replacement so that I can be back in business in short order.

We don't know what the future will bring.

In 5 years, will Panasonic BD players still play Region B discs? Maybe. Do I want to bet my BD collection on it? No. Can we be guaranteed that some future DRM change will not inhibit multi-region play back? What about ehanced security from newer versions of HDMI and (as mentioned) 4k players (even if we arent' watchig 4K discs, some of us may plan to use the players as our universal machines)?

I want to most "future proof" disc collection possible. OK, I know that "future proof" is a fleeting concept in the home video world. But I'm not betting my discs that future players, future firmware and future DRM schemes will always work in my favor.
