I'm glad others are saying what I think all the time. It's fine if region free members want to suggest another option, but I hate when they say Scream shouldn't bother releasing it because it's available in UK as a Region B locked disc. Even if it's region free, I would prefer the cover and menus to be in English as opposed to Japanese or French or whatever.
I don't know anyone that has a region free player, other then members on this forum. The truth is that region free people are a very, very small minority. I'm not going to get into why I don't want to go region free, as many of them have already been mentioned, but I will say, I remember when DVD was dying down, almost everything that had a better release outside of North America, had been re-released as an equal or even superior edition here. So many posters were saying how they shouldn't have bothered as those discs are hard to get rid of, other then on eBay, which these days with all the hassles isn't even worth it. I have thousands of discs I want to buy in North America, I don't need to start adding all of the world wide releases to my wish list! Last edited by spawningblue; 04-15-2015 at 03:13 PM. |

A friend told me that Scream (or maybe it's another company) is supposed to be working on a blu-ray release for "One Million Years BC" -- the Raquel Welch cave man/cave woman movie with Ray Harryhausen dinosaurs and pterodactyls.
Has anyone heard about this or is my friend pulling my leg? |

Also, regardless if some superior foreign versions do end up making their way to the U.S, you would have spent a similar amount of money purchasing two U.S versions as you would if you had purchased the superior foreign edition initially and a U.S rerelease at a later date, the only difference is that you would have been enjoying the superior foreign version for years already. Not only that, if a superior U.S version was to be released, like with your example about how some found it hard to get rid of old foreign versions that they had purchased newer U.S editions of, this would be the same for many older U.S editions as well. Getting rid of them would be harder, because once people are aware that there has been a rerelease and that the new version is superior, the demand for the original drops dramatically. For example, the original U.S release of The Terminator. Last edited by Cevolution; 04-15-2015 at 04:19 PM. Reason: Changed a couple of words. |

Again, showing that 5000 have the crappy version compared to 50 who have the superior version shows you that people don't like to import, and this is on Bluray.com, a site dedicated to Blu-ray enthusiasts. Outside of this site that percentage is even smaller. You are, as already stated before, a very very small minority. As for getting rid of your old crappy US edition, again, you think the average customer knows about a superior version released in the UK or Japan? Local stores that buy up used media will almost never purchase imports. Your only option would be eBay, where as you could get rid of the crappy US version just about anywhere that buys used media. Thanks for the response regarding "One Millions Years BC." Seems like my buddy is misinformed. I can only keep hoping that this classic movie makes it to blu-ray one day.

You greatly exaggerate, overall, only a small percentage of Blu-ray's have been rerelease where they are different/superior to the "initial run". The majority of titles have only been given one transfer in each region. 9 years into the life of Blu-ray and you are still waiting, almost a decade of your life. If you like wasting your life waiting for things, then that's your choice. Quote:
As for referring to many of these individuals who are just like yourself as enthusiasts, I beg to differ. IMO you are not a true enthusiast if you straight out refuse to import at all under any circumstance, especially if you know that there is a vastly superior version of a title you want out there, but chose to go with the inferior one. An enthusiast actually shows an interest in what they are buying, and makes informed decisions, so that they can get the best quality that their money can buy. IMO you are a casual Blu-ray consumer at best. Quote:

There's an HD transfer already available for this as there are many of Lionsgates films. I still hold to my belief that this, and everything with a digital HD release from lionsgate will eventually see a Blu Ray release as part of a budget multi-film collection in the next 1-3 years.

Of course I could be wrong about all of this, but I gotta believe that Lionsgate will at least try to duplicate what seemed to work for DVD when their are already HD transfers available. |
