If they don't feel like giving better treatment to smaller cult films, I don't see the logic in refusing to let others do so, especially since by sublicensing, there will be money for them as well. But yeah, in the end it's a matter of opinion. Last edited by JackForrester; 04-24-2015 at 04:39 PM. |

If anyone is "just sitting" on a goldmine of catalog titles, it's Lionsgate.

I don't recall the actor/victim launching any 'public' campaign against Clownhouse, although you're probably right that he or his people contacted MGM and threatened that he would launch a campaign unless they pulled the DVD off the release schedule. The actor DID launch a very public campaign against Disney when they theatrically released Salva's later film Powder which had some homosexual imagery. But his protest against Clownhouse was most likely all behind the scenes, and considering it was the actual film where he was molested in, MGM was smart to cancel the title weeks before its streetdate (it was one of several MGM horror titles all streeting on the same date). Some copies of Clownhouse did leak out at the time, though, and fetch big $$$ now.

Oh yeah, Lionsgate is definitely a worse case scenario. I'm just not the biggest fan of WB either.

If you ask me, there's only one movie Warner Bros. is legitimately keeping away from release on purpose and we all know what it is.
![]() Everything else getting screwed over in their library, however, is a combination of laziness and incompetence. Also, thanks a lot for bringing "Clownhouse" to my attention, guys. Getting it through dodgy, cash free means now. Last edited by GasmaskAvenger; 04-24-2015 at 10:04 PM. |

I suppose Scream could contact a couple of frequent contributors and ask them to beg WB if the want is bad enough.
Tobe Hooper could ask for The Mangler / Night Terrors. Wes Craven would be a tad difficult, as he doesn't like Deadly Friend or Vampire in Brooklyn. Carpenter could go for Somebody's Watching Me / Memoirs of an Invisible Man. Romero for Creepshow, maybe. Any more I'm missing, not counting the ANOES movies, Poltergeist and ITMOM. Jeff Burr could go for Leatherface: TCM 3. Last edited by demonknight; 04-24-2015 at 10:28 PM. |

I wouldn't say he dislikes Deadly Friend, he just doesn't care enough to go after WB to ask for a nice release. But I don't think he would oppose to it if he knows there's enough fan intere$$t. |

I'm not a big fan of Escape from LA, but I don't think it's the train wreck many say it is. There are a few parts that I like, and I still think it's better than the remake of Village of the Damned, my least favorite Carpenter feature.

Less than Memoirs? Or Ghosts of Mars?

It's been a long time since I saw Memoirs and Ghosts. Not a big fan either, but the Village remake is so campy and badly acted. Way worse than I remembered. But from the amount of requests for a Scream release here I see most Carpenter fans like it.

I like it about as much as In the Mouth of Madness. I think the only Carpenter film I've never seen is The Ward and I've only seen Ghosts of Mars the once.

The Village remake is definitely one of Carpenter's lesser films. I remember seeing it in the theater, and being less then impressed. I've always felt that In the Mouth of Madness was the last good film that he made. I never liked anything he did after that. I recently watched the Ward again, and if his name wasn't in the credits, I would have never known it was one of his films. All of his signature touches seemed to be absent from that film. It's understandable why he's in retirement now. |

Do folks in here consider Body Bags a Carpenter film? I tend to ignore it because of the presence of two other directors and, well, I don't like it very much. Not that it's terrible or anything, but it feels like they lifted three so-so unused Tales from the Crypt story ideas made a failed pilot for a TFTC knockoff with them.
