Didn't think I would Pick up MAD MAX but it was $13 at Walmart and I didn't own it. A pretty solid release.

The chance that most everyday people will notice the differences between the Scream Factory Mad Max Blu-ray and the MGM Mad Max Blu-ray is roughly zero percent.

If you don't already own the movie, then the Scream Factory disc is worth having. If you do already own the movie, then it's probably not a bad idea to stick with the MGM disc.

I agree with you actually, but it's still not a "solid release." The picture quality is worse, the old special features have a weird video flaw introduced that makes them hard to watch and there is only one new feature that's 20 minutes long.

It's not a solid release, it's a poor effort all around. I defend Scream a lot, but not in this case.

I'm good with Scream Factory releases in my collection right now, but I took advantage of this sale to buy three Shout Factory titles that I've been meaning to buy for ages...

Sophie's Choice
Electra Glide in Blue
Death Race 2000

Of course, I waited until after the fact to look at the respective prices on Amazon, and it turns out that I could have saved five dollars or so by ordering them from there. No big regret, though, because I like doing business directly with Shout.

This. This is the cheapest CE I can remember ever seeing including sales, let alone a new release.

Yep if it wasn't as cheap as it was I wouldn't have bought it and just got the previous Blu. But the PQ is slightly worse than the MGM and the new special feature and cover art made it worth $12 to me.

Is anyone else getting excited ? Over the past few months (and the upcoming ones too) Scream Factory have been releasing 6-8 titles per month and at the moment we know everything due to be released up until the end of August but what is still to come ? There are only a few previously announced titles which have yet to be given solid release dates which must mean that a big series of announcements are due over the summer months in regards to their schedule for Sept & Oct which in past years have been when they've released the best titles, I can't wait to see whats on the way this year !

I've been meaning to buy this and a few of the other Corman movies (Rock N Roll High School, Humanoids from the Deep, Forbidden World, Galaxy of Terror) for ages, but they never got very good reviews for PQ or anything and the price seems to just be permanently stuck at 20 bucks even though they're several years old now. It's unfortunate!

I own a few of those and they look pretty good for what they are. Remember they're b-movies. The features are nice too. Worth the price for fans, niche product means niche prices.

I owned Death Race 2000 on DVD in the same "Roger Corman Presents" edition, and I liked the look of the film. I'm sure that it can only be better on Blu-ray. I also own Piranha, and I strongly recommend that one to all horror fans.

Scream Factory developments are always potentially exciting, I just wish they had more leeway to demand better materials for their transfers (if better materials could be had) and not just accept whatever they're given.

In terms of future titles, there are rumors going around that they may have a Phantasm box set in the works, which would be beyond awesome. Scream also apparently are dipping their toes into the world of Eurohorror, which could be a good thing but that problem about access to better source materials will continue to crop up for these titles. And before they close the books on MGM I'm hoping they acquire Alien Predator and give it a nice Blu-ray Collector's Edition.

I have Piranha and Star Crash and like both of those very much, but the first was on sale once for ~10 and the latter I got for Christmas one year. I just have trouble paying 20 bucks each for these things for some reason (even though I have no trouble paying 25+ for Code Red/Scorpion discs!). Maybe it's cause most of them are very bad movies! Death Race 2000 I can probably justify.

Will Scream be at SDCC again this year? Just wondering if we can expect another bumper announcement in a couple of months. But as that included a number of titles for 2015 as well, I'm expecting them to round out most of the September-November announcements before then.
