I was looking at my standing orders on amazon and I see that most of them are Shout/Scream releases (6 orders out of 10).

I often enjoy the extras but they are NEVER deal-breakers. In the last 8 years and 850 Blu-rays that I own, I have never once based a purchase decision on extras. In fact, next to Scream, pretty much everything else I buy is Kino and Olive...and they aren't exactly overflowing with extras. The thing I enjoy the most in the extras is the interviews that show what the actors look like today...some well-preserved, some gone to seed and some rebuilt with plastic surgey to look like they did 40 years ago (I'm talkin' to you Joan van Ark) .

And, as I've said before, I really love the "Grade Z" stuff. If Scream puts out an $18.00 double feature of a pair of obscure, low budget 80's horror flicks, that's a guaranteed buy (I just ordered 3 Scream double features a few minutes ago).

As I was putting together my latest amazon.ca order, I saw Paramount's Crocodile Dundee double feature for $9.99. That's a good deal but I passed...I've seen those movies a dozen times and they are on Tv every two weeks. Do I need to own them? On the other hand the Scream double feature of CELLAR DWELLER and CATACOMBS was up for order at $14.99. Never seen them. I hit the pre-order button on that. I'm always willing to take a chance on an obscure film.

I only like extras when they are really well done, but when they are they are super nice to have. Watched the 90 minute documentary on the making of Kingsman yesterday and it really enhanced my appreciation of the movie. A good commentary or interview can do that too, like on a Criterion or Scream disc.

The featurettes on most new releases are completely ignored though. Make sure you give good extras a try if you have only really experienced crappy ones.

I know the movie's about as dumb as a bag of bricks... but with Scream! Factory having access to a lot of Universal's catalogue titles, I'd love to see them release "Virus" (1999) on Blu-ray.

Maybe it's just a policy they have when it comes to Scream Factory. Who knows? In any case, I would be fine with Scream releasing some Sony movies without extensive new extras. It's not a deal breaker for me. However, I do enjoy watching what extra content is available on a film whether vintage or brand new.

It sounds to me like Sony wants control of the extras and Scream Factory doesn't want to give up those right. Hence no new extras can be made is partially correct in this perspective as Scream Factory isn't in the business to give away their extras.

I feel like of all the labels Scream relies most on new extras for its reputation, so it makes sense they would be wary of a title they couldn't add much to. I believe they said they had no interest in Return of the Living Dead because they couldn't add enough to it over the existing BD.

What would be the point of picking up a film that's already been released on blu ray if a label can add little or nothing to differentiate it from an existing blu ray release? It goes without saying a label would not pick up a film if it couldn't add something of meaning and value to a new release of the film. It wouldn't make sense to do it.

I think people are mostly talking about Sony titles not yet on BD in the US which Scream could release without any new features, just to put them on BD. Like I said though, Scream (more than other labels) focuses on added features, so I don't see it being their thing. More a Twilight Time or Kino thing.

Here's a few Universal titles I haven't seen much talk about that I think they could have been picked up:

Slaughterhouse-Five
Sssssss
The Boy Who Cried Werewolf
Firestarter
Streets of Fire
Dr. Giggles
Matinee

Dr. Giggles isn't a Universal title anymore. It's with Warner Brothers now, via their acquisition of the production company, Largo Entertainment.

Streets of Fire and Matinee are two movies I would buy day one for a proper blu-ray release. I'd watch them both all the time with my dad.

On a side note any news about Road to Hell getting released...like ever?

Just got the Frogs/Food of the Gods and Empire of the Ants/Jaws of Satan sets, should make for a dreadful quadruple feature! I can't wait. My copy of Reptilicus/Tentacles has been shipped from DDD too. I'm glad they're releasing some of these silly monster movies, in cases like these I definitely prefer to get the double features from Scream instead of single releases from Kino since they're half as expensive :P

Default Releases??

Anyone know if they plan to release Terrorvision, Ghosthouse, Witchery, Cellar Dweller, The Rage Carrie 2, High Spirits... I want them individually. .. because some of the double feature releases are terrible .. for example.. Terror Vision was bad ass and awesome, but the Video Dead was terrible and a bad movie... Cellar Dweller was awesome... but Catacombs was very boring.... I loved ghosthouse and witchery so that worked out well, but they don't have any features... so I really hope they all get individual releases.

My wish list...

Cheerleader Camp (1988)
Problem Child
Problem Child 2
Fright Night (1985)
Fright Night 2 (1988)
Chopping Mall (1986)

Puppet Master (1989)
Misery (1990)
Pet Sematary
Carrie (1976)
Death Becomes Her (1989)
Love Stinks (1999)
House on Haunted Hill (1999)
Drop Dead Fred
Killer Clowns from Outer Space
Children of the Corn (1984)
Creepshow (1982)

Don't think they will. It's cheaper to put out the doubles at a lower price with little to no extras.
