DVD was released by Dimension. So it's looking like it (which is a shame, very effective film).

Fun tidbit: Scream has recently released The Car, just put out Ssssss, and have The Boy Who Cried Werewolf on the horizon. Svengoolie had The Boy...on in February, The Car last week and Sssss in a few weeks.

Doesn't mean anything, just enjoying the Scream connection.

If Scream's double-dips are all as improved as Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 was then they can keep double-dipping as long as they want, IMO.

One film really doesn't show a proven track record on this (especially with a track record of so so transfers) and frankly I would rather have more titles that haven't been released yet. I don't mind it once in a while but don't make a business out of it.

Well some of those obscure titles never released sold too well hence, they are going after big titles. At the end of the day, its a business and the company wont stay in business licensing and releasing Scanners 2 and 3, Count Yorga and low tier movies all the time. Sure its great when they do release titles that havent been released before, but they need to sell. And their track record about so-so transfers is malarkey. Good or bad PQ , almost all the HD releases come from the studios they license from. That goes for Twilight Time too..
Kino creates their own HD masters, and Criterion has their own remastering equipment in house.

Yeah. If they don't secure other deals sometime in the near future, it might be a lot more re-releases in the future and less and less new titles.

Agreed! I hope all future re-releases will be of the same caliber.

You're right, it's absurd to make such a dubious statement based on a single example. Thank you for being a voice of reason here.

That's fine with me since a lot of the movies they re-release I don't have anyway & would grab one from SF.

Hopefully more or less owning the IFC stuff, and now doing stuff on the production end (Slasher), helps with the cash flow for them. Then they can keep releasing the less popular previously unreleased stuff

The amount of fans lining up for Howling II at full retail price is probably pretty slim. I have every intention of picking it up myself, but not until I've A) Picked up a bunch of other more desired titles or B) it reaches a price point where I can no longer ignore it. (Usually around $12 shipped means instant buy) This idea can be applied to nearly any release. I'm hopeful that given the sheer amount of re-releases as of late it means that something special is brewing later on. I know better than to get excited about potential Comic Con announcements, but I can't help but wonder each year.
All of which makes perfect business sense. At the end of the day if they keep unearthing stuff like 'Sonny Boy' etc, whilst still appealing to the masses with mainstream releases like 'Mad Max' then i'll be a happy bunny!

If they re-released EFNY with a new master that didn't have the aliasing and had some proper clean-up applied I'd rebuy it in a New York minute. Music labels double-dip all the time to improve little things (Twilight Time has done the same with stuff like Fright Night, that label is basically the movie equivalent of MSM or Intrada and with Nick Redman at the helm that's no surprise) so I'd love it if Shout snuck out a competently mastered version of EFNY. When I look at what they managed to do with AoD and then look at EFNY...man.

Here's a deserved for the direction Shout are moving in re: new transfers anyway. They do everything else possible to please the fans with all the added tat, extras etc, it's just a shame it's taken this long for them to really make the effort with getting the best possible quality for the main thing these releases are supposed to be a celebration of: the actual movie. Sure, new transfers don't come cheap but they're not a small label and they don't charge peanuts for their releases; if they can pull a new transfer for TCM2 out of the bag one wonders just what they've got coming next.

This is all but assured judging by the re-releases we've been inundated with. I don't have a problem with double dips as long as we get the newest and best transfer. SPECIES always had that video-y look, overly bright and soft. It's a minor classic that deserves better.

Yes at times.. I believe some of titles from the deal that includes Legend of Hillbilly John all need HD remasters , and some of the Noirs last year. It just depends on how much it will cost to remaster and if they want a film badly enough. Also, the black and white/shorter films cost less to remaster.
