MGM did for DVD and it sold like gangbusters. And honestly it's a good movie, very atmospheric if you can put all the bullspit outta yer head.

And it quickly went OOP because the star organized a protest against its release, which likely will be what happens again. I don't fault Scream for not wanting to get involved with that.

I guarantee they would ship more units of those if it was a double feature.
Pretty much what everyone said about the CEs of TCM 2, Jeepers Creepers 1 & 2, Return of the Living Dead etc etc, yet Scream delivered worthwhile packages.
Like someone already said, if you want a cheap double feature of these films get the MGM one and let fans have their CE

Yeah God forbid Scream recoups all the lost money on crappy titles they lost, by releasing "Clownhouse" even in a limited capacity. 2,000-3,000 copies only. Sold out the day of, I bet, if not, by the next day, and think of all the cash they'd get for lesser titles.

MGM pulled that title from their release schedule well before its streetdate because of legal threats by Winters. Some copies got out, and then a liquidation later on saw more copies flood the market for a short period, but MGM never officially released the title in to normal distribution channels.

It's a hot potato and MGM most likely wants it locked away from now until the end of time. Even if Scream begged for it, I doubt MGM would buckle.

These are actually really good announcements. The only boring one is Poltergeist II/III. House that Screamed in particular is a way, way classier announcement than usual, and I will buy that day one. Usually that kind of thing ends up with Code Red or Scorpion, or maybe even Arrow.

Slumber Party Massacre II/III will be another insta-buy assuming they're not separate limited editions or something.

Not interested in Willard/Ben, but I really like that they're releasing them. They're quite well-known movies and at least at some point they had a lot of fans.

So, I guess everyone, but one person, agrees with me that having the not so good "Poltergeist" sequels getting their own "Collector's Editions" is a really dumb move.

Actually, I have a theory why they separately release the "Poltergeist" sequels, specifically as "Collector's Editions."

It's because they know, those sequels are sub-par or less than, but anything "Collector's Edition" sells, no matter what the bonus materials are, think "Terror Train" that could have easily been a regular release nothing "Collector's" about it regarding its bonus materials. This is their way of moving product that otherwise would not sell so good considering MGM has had them on blu-ray for a long time now.

If they did the cheaper double feature you want then they wouldn't add much supplemental material, if any, so you might as well get the current cheap 2-pack anyway. I literally have zero idea why you are complaining here. Just get that release and don't buy these.

I'm surprised no one made topics for Dead of Winter or Slumber Party Massacre II/III yet. I'm interested in hearing more about those. I really liked SPM1, so I'm wondering if these are in a similar vein. I know some other slasher sequels have essentially nothing in common with part I (ex, Sorority House Massacre or Prom Night).

Dead of Winter sounds potentially interesting based on IMDB reviews.

I agree with this entirely. I don't really care about those movies that much, espeically 3, but the thing that would MAKE me interested are awesome extras, so collector's edition is far more interesting than if they did a double feature. Especially cause yes, there already is one, so what would be the point of that?

SPM2 is a situation where it is a direct sequel to the first in terms of following up on characters. Tonally, though, it's entirely different, as Corman made it to capitalize on A Nightmare on Elm Street. As such, the driller killer is also a dream killer. Check out the recent episode of The Cinema Snob about it for more info.

I don't think that's true. There are bluray releases already for the Poltergeist sequels and most people already have them. What's the point of releasing the films again if they're not doing the deluxe treatment?
Oh yeah, let's release those films as a double feature again and maybe add a trailer. That will make people desperate to double dip. Sorry but your logic makes no sense.
Scream's release of Terror Train was the movie's debut on Bluray format. So there's a lot of difference.

Can't believe Scream Factory are being criticised for releasing Poltergeist 2 & 3 as collectors editions. Just don't buy them. The films have their fans and I personally think this is amazing news.

My advice to the haters would be to revisit Poltergeist 2 when it is released. Julian Beck's performance as Reverend Kane is one of the scariest in horror history and hopefully the new edition will remind people of this.

Kane has a little message for any haters:

I'm glad they separated the Poltergeist sequels because I refuse to have the abomination that is Poltergeist 3 on my shelf. Poltergeist 2, while not great, at least has a top 5 creepy horror movie villain and a great score by Jerry Goldsmith.
